I started a pug of Cure Space Elite with one fleet mate.
I said i have Kang and went off to the kang, one guy followed me and no matter what i said wouldnt leave the kang or respond to me. That was the start of a downhill slide.
Only good part of this piece is that the others split up and went 1 left 2 right
Next some guy in a Defiant leaves a 3 minutes in.
Then the one guy left on the right gets the cube there down to low health and i ask him to please leave it at low health. One minute later he blows it
He is also not responding to chat and moves on to the middle. He proceeds to pull the same thing there, blowing the cube and now facing us with several waves of Negh'vars to kill.
At this point the optional is long gone with the Kang hitting 71% at one point and the time past 20 minute.
Finally after 25 minutes he blows the third one and the carrier dies fast.
I say good game to my fleet mate and the guy who a least helped keep the kang alive and say "terrible game to the other guy"
Right after i left the map he has the nerve to respond with "THX U2 "
Worst Cure run i have had since i was the subject of a post on this thread, back when i was a noob.
I wish more people would use the Scimitar and/or BFAW megacruisers. I'm seeing more and more low DPS ships (myself included. I don't think my Fleet Hoh'sus is particuarly damaging except in full on flank/decloak mode, and that's mostly just for alphas, and my Mirror Heavy Cruiser is definitely not a damage machine)... but then people still try to rush through ISE without having the DPS to burn down a side quickly.
At least BFAW boats will burn multiple generators at a time. You have multiple ships DPSing a single generator, and then failing the optional because all the generators are still up by the time the nanites are halfway to the transformer.
Due to a lack of interest in others being further away from the "action", I try to be the one on the far side generator so that SOMEONE burns it down... but then by the time I get around to drop a Grav Well on the Nanites, they have gotten closer to the transformer than if I'd been on the closest generator, so there's not much time for a second Grav Well (even with Deflector DOFFs) & there's never enough DPS to take out the transformer. It's quite the conundrum. I either stay close to the gate & hope someone else burns down the far side generator, or I stay on the far side generator, and then nobody drops a timely grav well on the nanites.
There's only so much I can do. Once, I dropped the 2nd grav well too close to the transformer (because we couldn't burn down the transformer with just one grav well slowing the nanites), so that was on me... aside from not coordinating the generators because of low DPS.
Basically, if it needs more than one grav well to do a side on ISE, then at least try to coordinate the generators with the ol' 10% rule.

You really don't need Scimitars (nevermind the fact that whenever I see one I usually assume the ship is at best ignorable and at worst a liability until they prove otherwise)
It's possible to kill the remaining generators and the transformer solo if your DPS is high enough, or play "nanite sphere keepaway" indefinitely if it isn't.
A copy of Gravity Well plus a copy of Tractor Beam Repulsors should allow a single ship to keep the horde of spheres away constantly. Just position yourself appropriately and stagger the two abilities - GW keeps them right where they are; and TBR pushes them back whenever they get too close. If you have "Vent Warp Plasma" (or the Vent Theta Universal Console) then that's icing on the cake.
Personally, I've gotten to the point where I'll not even bother equipping a copy of TBR1 anymore on my Armitage: whenever the first generator dies I just pop Evasive Maneuvers; dump a "Vent Theta" patch in front of the Nanites and reposition myself to attack the rest of the Generators; then finally buff up and concentrate all fire on the Transformer.
Khitomer Vortex Elite, we have 3 players on one side, I am taking down the probes while the other two take down the first generator/transformers. Once that set was destroyed they just left the cube alive.
One of them leaves to go to the other side of the map for some unknown reason and the other guy starts attacking the gate  while there are still generators/transformers. He later goes afk until I threaten a report to the GM.
While those two decided to go derp for a while I get swarmed by 2 cubes and 3 probes get through before the rest of the team is able to help. I am a science captain in a Mirror Nova, I sure as hell am not going to be able to take down 2 cubes and get rid of probes at the same time.
This is not an STF, but the level of stupidity displayed here was so unbelievable I didn't realize what had happened at first.
I was in an Elite 8472 Infiltration map.
The Orb was under attack and I think all 4 members of the team (counting myself) were fighting off the Orb Attackers.
The mission screen flashes, I thought it was a graphical glitch.
Then out of the corner of my eye, I see the Master Infilitrator appear.
After swearing, I wondered who was stupid enough to trigger the appearance of the Master Infilitrator alone when the rest of the team was still doing the Optional?
And we had trouble tracking him down again, because he ran off before we could find him and the door he entered.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
I've been lucky in ESTFs lately. Very few idiots, and some guy in a sci ship actually tossed me a bunch of heals in KASE earlier that let me basically solo the left side in my C-store Avenger. It was amazing--like people actually knew wtf they were doing!
In that same KASE run, there was a guy in a Kumari-line escort--a Charal, I think--who camped at the time portal and vaporized everything that got close with absurd DPS.
Everybody even said actual thank-yous at the end. Plus, I got enough marks for my MACO armor!

Enh... it's marked with a yellow circle on the map. I sometimes have to find it anyways. The infiltrator often disappears at a location that isn't right there.

TBH if you cant Solo a spawn, dont play Elite, but thats not even the problem here, if two work together, they should be able to "solo" a spawn (you need less then 5k for that, even less if you can use TBR or GW). You made the first mistake in believing guarding the Kang means standing besides it and toss some heals. Thats wrong. That was wrong when the Mission went live and now its even more wrong. Guarding the kang means engaging the enemy as soon as possible, so that the kang never sees an enemy. If you start engaging them while they shoot the Kang you alreade lost, since 2 enemies will always fire on kang, and one on a player. If you engage asap, the kang is much safer, even if they can fire on it.
And to heal the kang, give her a hazard emitter and Tactical Team. TT really gets the job done, giving you more than enough time for any spawns to come. But engage ASAP and give her heals, when she need them and dont just stand on top.
The one that did the mission is the one who blow the cubes, sure, he should have kept the spawns at bay too, but only standing on top of the kang is asking for a fail...
I don't have any bad STF experiences except the one time I pugged IGE, and I assume I deserved that.
But the other day in the Undine BZ, I watched a Scimitar (which was armed with AP and polaron beams) very slowly and carefully position itself behind a Planet Killer, before using the Thalaron Pulse.
I wonder why STO is so appealing to mentally-damaged people.
Myself and another person sent 'teamchat' messages suggesting that he repair ship injuries, but no response was ever forthcoming.
I have often wondered about this myself.
The one time someone admitted to a honest mistake, they said they were a newbie, had never done elite before and didn't know what injuries are.
But when I explained the concept and gave them some regenerators to use, they grasped the concept fast.
That is an abnormality though, that is not the usual response.
The normal response is not to acknowledge the injuries exist, despite the fact they are acculumulating at an exponential rate and reducing combat effectiveness accordingly.
My theory is that they are fully aware what regenerators are, but are just too much of an EC tightwad to want to pay for them.
Some of them are so foolish they don't even repair the damages between missions, they just keep going to queues in a damaged condition.
I think they expect to leech off the rest of the team and do no actual work themselves.

I don't know about BZ Planet Killers, but in the queues, if you hit the armored parts of the planet killer, one of your BOFFs will remind you that you're not damaging it and that the weak point is in the front.
If you could fail to learn that, you're not very intelligent. Or you can't read!

Yep, BZ planet killers are the same way, and that's another captain who needs to be sent back for supplementary training.

Not the worst by any means, but had an ISE instance that made me chuckle earlier.
It was actually a good team - or least, four of the team were. There was this one player in an Obelisk, with more damaged systems (the majority of them red)_than I could count. I don't think I've ever seen a player spend so much time stuck awaiting to respawn.
Seriously - the few times that he was actually in one piece, he flew in, launched a bunch of swarmers, and then exploded the moment a Borg anything shot at him. Whilst I (obviously) don't know what his setup was, his shields must've been paper-thin and I can't imagine he had any sort of armour console slotted. And those factors, plus the unrepaired damage, meant that we were, as noted, basically a four-person team.
So kudos to whoever you are - spending that much time in respawn oblivion is quite the acheivement - and I can honestly say that the best damage you did was clearly via your unique 'explode at the enemy' console.
Myself and another person sent 'teamchat' messages suggesting that he repair ship injuries, but no response was ever forthcoming.
I'll see your one guy and raise you two guys doing the same thing :P
This was quite a few months ago in ISE. First guy in an Andorian escort flies in and boom, he explodes the second he got within firing range of the cube at the start.
He respawned, flew back in and boom, he was dead again within seconds. Not to be outdone the second guy, who I think was in an Odyssey, proceeded to follow him in the cycle of rush in, blow up, respawn, repeat.
By the time we'd cleared both transformers these 2 had more ship injuries than I could count (they were pretty much filling half my screen) and at this point I could barely play for laughing.
Kudos has to go to the other 2 guys with me as we managed to clear the mission and get the optional even with those 2 guys trying to put us off by distracting us with their firework display.
I can't say it was my worst STF, in fact it was probably one of the best I've ever done for sheer entertainment value alone.
I guess I'm a little masochistic, but I still get a chuckle out of the random supercharged Borg in an ISE.
Hit up ISE last night - get in to find the optional had already been failed - and they were fighting off the Nanites on the right. Figured I'd at least get my dailybox without eating a leaver penalty, so I charged in not worrying about why they might have failed the optional.
By the time I got in range to engage, three of the four other guys had already been popped. I engaged two Spheres, not thinking much of it...lolwut...dead. Aha, it was one of those ISE's! Yay - not!
So we cleared the Spheres, another guy left that wasn't replaced while fighting the Gate, and even there with folks dropping to the Gate from one shots, we got it down.
The Tac Cube on the other hand, lol - with 60-80k normal torps being tossed around and 100-300k+ HYs being spammed...folks dropping like flies...well, after the Tac Cube reset for the third time - everybody left.
There was no leaver penalty even though the window popped up. Queued ISE again, ran it no problem...was just the regular ol' ISE spacebar wheeeee fun.
Those supercharged ISE are a trip though - some folks complain massively about them...it feels more Star Trek-like than ISE does, imo - battle of Wolf 359 and folks dropping like flies. Yep...but yeah, even it gets old...funny for a moment and then forget about it, had enough of that fun...
I just had one of those ISEs where someone in an elite ship doesn't have the first clue of how to fly it.
Some guy in a Klingon battlecruiser or something like that ran to the far side of the first transformer and started throwing grav wells at the generators. By the end of the match xe had 11 injuries, and even at the start was blowing up as soon as the Borg looked at xir.
At least everyone else was competent, so the match wasn't TOO painful even though the optional was a bust.
I just PUGed IGE. I thoroughly deserve what I got.
1 guy who knew what he was doing, 1 guy who bailed halfway through, a space cowboy who didn't listen to any instructions he was given and kept costing us time we didn't have in the boss room because he kept shooting the Borg instead of helping on the generators, and a guy in an EV suit who spoke only French and kept Leeroying room after room.
It was a giant mess. Competent guy and I ended up quitting after the space cowboy ignored 15 straight PMs telling him to stop shooting the Borg and get over here to help with the shield generators.
This is why IGE should never be PUGed. With a smart team, it's easy enough, but with idiots...it all goes to hell in a handbasket.

Actually you can do optional pretty much alone with every class (engineer is of course the easiest), if they do even a little bit damage. The only problem is then the last room, where you need 3 ppl knowing what to do.
IGE is the one STF I have the most problem with involving PUGs.
The optional for this STF is the hardest one to PUG, it often fails within the first two groups.
For the same reason everytime, someone runs in ahead before the rest of the team is ready to engage the workers, crosses the trigger line and when the rest of the team tries to follow them in, a zergrush of Borg drones distracts them long enough for the unfortunate Starfleet officer to get assimilated.
This is usually my benchmark for failure, if a team can't follow direction enough to beat the optional, they can't defeat Becky Borg either.
Because it requires structured teamwork to beat the optional and if you don't have that, you're not beating the boss either.

This last ISE was kinda bad, using my Rainbow Phaser Atrox. (I got 3rd on Crystalline Elite the last time I used my Atrox, so it's not terrible, but Atrox = Fed Drama, LOL)
I warped in after the bonus was lost, and they were cleaning up Nanites on the left side. So, LOLlercoaster, I can't help but finish it off at this point (THX CRYPTIC). We wipe the Left easily enough. I figure it was just unlucky of them, they didn't have Sci & didn't have DPS to wipe the Transformer, so the Right side should be easier.
Right side, not so much easier.
One generator blown early for a low DPS group... mistake #1.
So, okay, I drop a GW3 on the Nanites, help wipe the generators, focus on the Transformer. Transformer is not dying. Someone, or multiple someones, aren't focusing on the Transformer. Definitely mistake #2.
I drop a GW1 (with GW3 on cooldown) on the Nanites after my GW3 wears off. Transformer still not dying. I mean, SERIOUSLY?
The Tranformer is like 15% by the time both of my Grav Wells run out... and I can't drop a third on the Nanites before they get on the Transformer because of cooldowns. Oh well, bonus blown already on the Left side, so all that's left is the whining & blamestorming
The rest goes easy enough... but c'mon! 2 Grav Wells should be enough time to kill a Transformer.
Someone had a DPS logger... I think I ended up 3rd in DPS with my awful Rainbow Phaser Atrox, although my total damage is low due to starting after someone else ragequit due to losing the bonus.
Pretty much the same thing happened to me last night too. Flying a vesta so I went to do CC duties.
Left side went ok but the other 4 players seemed to have very low dps and struggled with the transformer, should have spotted the warning signs there.
It took ages to clean up the spheres though, I couldn't help as I was unlucky and got caught in a core breach after spending a lot of time in a battle with all the spheres as nobody else helped me. I just had no heals left after the extended battle with all the spheres, really should not have taken so long for them to kill the transformer.
Right side goes even worse. I help with the cube, then knock down a generator to low health to help out. Didn't kill it as I thought after the problems left side we'd need to keep things well timed.
We somebody kills a generator and spheres start swarming in. I drop GW3 on them and the hammer them down with my cannons and torps. After killing them all I hope the team is onto the transformer. Nope, they are shooting it but there's still a genny up and nobody has noticed.
I kill the genny and then another wave of spheres arrives and I go drop GW3 on them again. Takes me a bit longer this time so I need to use a GW1 too but the team still haven't killed the transformer.
By now I'm out of CC tricks and getting shot from all sides by the spheres and the gate but nobody comes to get the spheres so the optional fails. I was doing everything I could but the rest of the team seemed oblivious to the incoming spheres.
Then against the tac cube half the team is dead most of the time an I'm the only one doing any damage. But in a vesta it's a tough fight and takes an age to kill it.
The Attrox can accomplish 12k+ rather easily, if you use it as a full-fledged torpbomber (friend of mine optimized his so he can easily score 17k+ in pugs on the point (as opposed to faw-firing on everything)). His pets alone do more dps than you did in that stf, which is rather slow.
And I dont want to give any offense to you, but blaming the attrox, which can do very well with the right setup, is kind of a trigger for me. Rainbow or not doesnt really make that much difference (though its very noticeable).
If you think a ship is underperforming, than think outside the box. Even something like the obelisk carrier can go over 15k rather easily on non-tactical toons.
Looong time player here. Had my worst STF experience the other day. Was doing KAGn and everything was going great until we hit the shield room. 1 player immediately went into the control room and started hitting buttons. Asked them to come out so we could clear room first. No cooperation on strategy. People dropping SE's and just aggroing everything in the room. Finally finish clearing room and as I was closest to the control room, popped in to start dropping shields. Starting hearing the "enemy near (insert every spot here)". Asked them to start at the bottom and work their way up. Figured one person would take the lead out there. 1 dropped back into control room. Asked him to leave as I could handle it. player said "lol transporter" and proceeded to kill summoned drones. Still no shields had gone down. Ended up with 3 players in the control room and nothing happening. I had to drop the mission. I probably should have gone out and directed people to the strategy but by then was so frustrated I couldn't think straight.
Not worst, but kind of silly. Went into ISE with my turret Voquv. First transformer is taking a bit long to die, but no prob, I got GWs(rare that it's actually needed these days). Then I see why two of the others aren't there, one is shooting the spheres, the other in a galaxy is fighting the right cube. Optional blows. Turns out the galaxy was actually shooting a gen on that side, his health was just a result of the cube busting him up for it. One guy books it, I ask "Why?", asking at once why the galaxy did that, and why the other player left just because of a blown optional.
Just got dropped into a CCE that was in progress after a couple of the players had quit. It had obviously been going for a while, but it was at 100% health.
Well I stuck it out, but it did take some time. One guy in a scimy was exploding every 30 seconds. He would literally spawn, full impulse over and park next to the entity shooting it and would get pounded by shards and die.
I did learn that my bastion is actually a really good tank and that the immunity shield can absorb the entities blast completely :P. Managed to get second place aswell in the end, so not too bad, just looong.
Not really the worst... but the worst i've run lately. Was playing viscious cycle, elite, with my klingon engineer, with an outfitted Risian Cruiser (what can i say, my KDF likes insulting the galaxy ) anyway, shortly after starting, one guy rage quits and PM's me calling me an "F-ing Moron" everyone else carries on, not caring im in the partyboat. it takes a while, but we get it done, with both optionals, we all blew up quiet a bit. One guy was in a plesh brek.... another in some type of Vo'quv (blew up more than me incidently.) the other ship i forget.
It was funny though, I was doing better than most and i only had some exchange equipment on it, mk XI blues at best for weapons, and the eng/Deflector/shields off my vo'quv (Assim eng and def, KHG X shields.). but Like i said, others did worse than me. I was tempted to PM the guy and tell him off, but instead i ignored him, as long as you can compete and have fun at the same time, who cares what anyone else says?
i've run 2 KSE's and 3 CCE's and 4 ISE's since i got the ship and no one else said a damn thing.

I've always said I'd rather have a good player in a gimped ship than a head case in the best DPS boat.
"You Iconians just hung a vacancy sign on your asses and my foot's looking for a room!"

I've always said I'd rather have a good player in a gimped ship than a head case in the best DPS boat.
I dont know if I'd call it a Gimped ship. I had it equipped fairly descently. though i must admit. it was fun Dragging around Donatra with the special console in KSE Once. That time a Scimitar met it's end to Donatra (prior to my dragging her around), I called out. "now thats hot Scimitar on scimitar action!" and everyone else cracked up.
Edit: Like to point out that in all my CCE runs i've always plkaced, usually 2nd or 3rd, but i have had a couple first places with my Risian Cruiser, dubbed Battle Boat One.
So just been in ISE with the new Risian Cruiser, first time taking it for a spin too.
The ship performed quite well in its current sub-optimal build state but that's another story.
What was maddening was that some fool in a Scimittar thought he'd go for a powerrun half way through without telling anyone else in the group.
We melt the cude and spheres at the start no problem and then move left as normal. Kill the cube and start on the geny's and supprisingly everyone follows the 10% rule, or near enough. We all pop a genny each at the same time and kill the transformer in seconds.
Now as we are mopping up the spheres, the Scimittar dude goes and aggros the right side cube but doesn't kill it.
Instead he kills the genny's and the transformer then the cube, ignoring the spheres fro mthe left side spawn and the new ones from the right side.
Now we've got both the L&R side spawns, plus the gate, plus the tac cube shooting at us! Eveyone was getting melted as we had no idea he'd hit the right side so nobody realised what the hell was going on until we were swamped with spheres.
I don't mind people going for a fast run but at least tell the rest of the team so we know what to expect.
I have too many stories to tell about bad STF experiences. Usually it's a nothing deal where some idiot doesn't know what he's doing and queues for Elite anyway, and blows it for everyone.
I've had a few instances where someone gets cocky because he paid money for his ship and instantly thinks he is good at the game. So when something goes wrong because he's trying to be a hero, he'll berate the rest of the team and just generally be a big useless phallic reference.
The one that stood out for me was last week, when the only cruiser in the group flatout refused to tank anything. 3 escorts and a science vessel (that one was me) and guess who was struggling to tank in a Science vessel with no skill points in Threat Control and no modifier on my ship to pull more aggro?
Moi.
If that wasn't bad enough, he spent most of his time complaaaaaining about how we weren't killing things fast enough. We were trying to tell him that if he was doing his job as the only cruiser captain in the map, then the escorts are having to duck and run because the cube is swapping targets. Nothing I can do about that. I have 2 fewer weapons ports, my ship was NOT built for tanking, nor was my character.
Suddenly the berating turned to "Well if you had spec'd your character better", and I was like whaaaaat? A... engineer captain in a cruiser who either can't or just refuses to tank talking down to a science captain in a science ship because I'm having trouble holding aggro? Whaaaaaaaaaaat????
I took the easy way out and just /ignore'd the guy, but the other 3 team members were still arguing with him until we eventually won (having unsurprisingly lost the optional). It just baffled, me the error in logic he wouldn't let go of.
Playing Federation Fleet Alert a few days ago and, during one round, I see a Risian Corvette racing by after taking out a round of ships. It had kicked on its boosting ability and raced by a group of exploding ships.
I took the easy way out and just /ignore'd the guy, but the other 3 team members were still arguing with him until we eventually won (having unsurprisingly lost the optional). It just baffled, me the error in logic he wouldn't let go of.
You just can't make these people see reason.
I tried a few times and it just provokes fights.
They're so convinced of their superiority that you are always the one at fault, not them.
Examples:
1. Someone got mad at me because I was employing hit and run tactics with a Borg cube nearby.
I was targeting the generators in KASE that heal the gateway, so it can be destroyed.
I prefer not to engage the Borg cube unless absolutely necessary.
And when I got destroyed, this idiot goes off on a rant that I suck because I didn't tank the cube and destroy it.
2. I was flying an Escort analogue ship and the fools in the team were triggering near constant Thalaron pulses.
When this happens, my response is to push the "gettheheckoutoftheway" button and run for it.
Then I swing back and target the Scimitar until it cloaks again.
But with the depressing regularity of the pulses meant I was doing more running then fighting.
In one case, I used an emergency speed boost power that takes me a lot further from the Scimitar then I intended.
While I'm turning around to return to the battle, one of the team berates me for not actually fighting with them.
The team is triggering constant death pulses, forcing me to avoid them all the time and it's my fault I can't fight?
So now I do what you do, if someone even starts on a topic I recognize as aggressive behavior, I add them to ignore immediately.
I have no interest in fighting a flamewar while fighting the enemy at the same time.

My character Tsin'xing
But the other day in the Undine BZ, I watched a Scimitar (which was armed with AP and polaron beams) very slowly and carefully position itself behind a Planet Killer, before using the Thalaron Pulse.
I wonder why STO is so appealing to mentally-damaged people.

--Red Annorax
I dont know if I'd call it a Gimped ship. I had it equipped fairly descently. though i must admit. it was fun Dragging around Donatra with the special console in KSE Once. That time a Scimitar met it's end to Donatra (prior to my dragging her around), I called out. "now thats hot Scimitar on scimitar action!" and everyone else cracked up.
Edit: Like to point out that in all my CCE runs i've always plkaced, usually 2nd or 3rd, but i have had a couple first places with my Risian Cruiser, dubbed Battle Boat One.

Take a guess what exploded along with them.
Bees like honey, they don't like vinegar.
