That's funny because the other day I got accused of being pants and having too low DPS and when I ducked out of a spawn to loose some aggro one beam was still up. So I got a load of abuse to get out of the match. I went back to get it once my hull was healed but it was already gone, the DPS guys had got it.
So are the low DPS people meant to do the beams or are the high DPS people meant to do the beams? Who knows.....
If everyone just did what they could to help out and paid attention to the rest of the team the whole run works far more effectively and everyone's a winner.
Warping into CSA with no boffs seated and my engines not slotted. Couldn't use the new loadout to fix it and couldn't move. So that pretty much ended that venture right there.
Oh Christ this !
Use the work around, but change anything, even something as little as slotting a different kind of battery, and you run the risk of warping into a mission with your power tray and BOFF seats completely screwed up.
The other day, I engaged a Federation Fleet alert and my movement keybinds wouldn't work. Did my best using just my mouse to navigate my ship, but funny, the minute I warp out of the mission, everything works again.

Okay, new one. UIA with the Starfleet Battles guys. We've got a new guy with us who hasn't played UI before, so we explain the procedure to him and start the mission.
So we're doing our thing when we get the alert for the event. Undine going after the priest. Everybody's spread out all over the place and has to run back. I'm first on the scene because I was doing the two Bajorans on the northeast corner of town, but the priest is already being attacked.
I blast the Undine and plonk down my turret, then start defending the place. The others trickle in as the fight goes on, but then suddenly we get game over. Seems the Undine got sneaky all of a sudden. And the new guy gets an AFK penalty because he was last to arrive.

The most frustrating moment was the last Christmas event were I perfectly planned out to get all three breen ships only for when I finished gettiń all pictures the reward claimed glitched and I couldn't get the ships for 40 on my three weaker toons. Then I waited till the 15th and it was never fixed. o well hopefully I can get them next Christmas right?
I needed some easy Omega Marks & decided to run Infected Space Normal.
The STF started out just fine. We destroyed the first Borg spawn & broke to the left transformer (standard operating procedure). After we destroyed the left transformer we got the message we failed the optional. WHAT??? We counted our ships & discovered 1 was missing.
We cleared the Borg left & flew over to the right Transformer where we found a Scimitar knee deep in Borg ships. Someone asked why he went right by himself & blew the optional and this is what he said:
"Sorry guys, my friends told me a Scimitar should be able to clear a transformer all by itself. I couldn't do it. I think this instance is bugged."
WTH? Really? Bugged? (Double face palm). Just some advice for you STF noobs (& vets too) though it should be obvious,
DON'T test your build or skills, in STFs! Go test in a Gamma patrol mission. They're difficult enough to be a fair testing area, and you don't TRIBBLE off other players if you're an epic fail. lol
Since I'm confused here, why do I see the occassional offtopic comment?
The thread title says STF, but I sometimes see posts that are not about STFs.
And I'm also confused about the player who said that they don't have a Sniper Rifle.
I don't know their Ground gear spec, but from their comments, I assume they are a KDF player using the Honor Guard set with the pulsewave weapon (targeting range 15m) and a batleth (targeting range InYourFace).
I thought it was STF 101 to always have a Sniper Rifle in your personal inventory, just in case it is needed.
The standard antiBorg weapon is the TR-116B.
Or if you want an canon friendly energy weapon (for KDF), the KHG Battle Rifle.
For Starfleet players, MACO Battle Rifle.
I can't imagine anyone who would show up to a ground map without at least one of these weapons.
Think of it of it as the game teaching you a valuable lesson, always have a Sniper Rifle with you, because you will need it one day and today is the day.

MY DPS was over double everybody elses in Khitomer. There were two guys taking care of probes on the other side nothing else. On my side it was the same. I was the only one doing the mission. In the end I ended up doing 42% of all the kills. When it came to Danatra there was a guy flying a transphasic bomber escort build. He would fly and pretty much park on Danatra to let mines out. Needless to say he was pretty fast and getting her to cloak instantly on each pass. It too over an hour for her to die. The only times she had her health lowered was when his mines followed her while she was cloaked, or he was far enough away to where we could attack her. He wasn't looking at the chat window...

This is the one reason I stopped playing Khitomer Space.
I'd ask the players not to trigger Donatra's cloak and was either completely disregarded or flamed.
If it took too long, I'd just park somewhere way out of range of the thalaron pulse they kept triggering and wait for them to wear her down.
I think that's an appropriate punishment, since I can't target her anyway and have to keep evading the pulses, there's nothing else I can do to help them.
And then naturally, I get blamed for their ineptitude, even though I asked them to stop using those tactics.

I disagree with a lot of that. The Tr116B is not the standard, as it is still quite expensive even though prices are dropping. The MACO sniper is a good rep-based stand in, but really ANY sniper or split beam will do. In some cases where you need long-range sniping, split beam is even better because it has no kickback. In things where you're sniping behing the trigger lines, kickback moves them out of range sometimes, making it take longer. It also has a slow secondary fire that only affects one target, whereas splitbeam or pulsewave or full auto secondaries affect several with a major damage increase. I grew tired of sniper rifles a long long time ago as being less effective than other weapons. In fact the only reason my feds carried them was because OF auto rifle was borked with remod frequency and I needed the integral remodulator of the MACO set. On my KDF which had KHG pulsewave, I didn't carry sniper as my secondary.
There are several key combinations that work well, depending on the map and your enemies:
Please note that I described the TR116b as an antiborg weapon.
In my experience, it's ideal for this purpose because it removes the need to remodulate, allowing you to have a sustained rate of fire when compared to energy weapons which need to be reset every two shots.
It also frees you from the requirement of having to equip a full Omega Rep set for the remod set bonus.
I don't remember who said it, but splitbeams were particularly frowned upon because they draw aggro from enemies the group is not targeting.
Full Auto rifles have 5 meters less range then Sniper rifles, which means for extreme range combat, they're less effective.
Regardless of your personal choices, the point I was making that every player needs to carry a sniper rifle, for the eventuality that you run into a situation where using one is manditory, then you're stuffed because you didn't like the weapon and didn't have one on hand.
Like the player who was trying to pulsewave the power cores on the wall in the Anniversary episode, they just couldn't hit them and naturally, was unable to progress in the mission.

Just got out of another "wonderful" bout of ISA. I was in my Tactical Odyssey along with two Scimitars, a Scryer, and a Voth Cruiser. I knew it was not going to go well when we were working on the left cube and started on the generators when not one, not two, but THREE gravity wells were dropped on either the transformer or one of the generators. We somehow got through that only to fail while working on the right side after the Voth blew a generator early and the gravity wells were once again used mainly on the generators instead of the approaching nanite spheres!
Yeah when that happens you have to seriously wonder is players even know what a grav well is for!
Yes is does some damage but the primary use is to suck up enemy ships and hold them!
Extra special (the kind of special that requires a helmet) ANRA just now.
ANRA starts, there are 3s on West and North, 1s on East and South.
I burn toward West, 2 guys head North, 1 guy goes South, and somebody tries to follow me to West (tries as it looks like he doesn't know about full impulse).
By the time the guy following me gets to West he has time to shoot a torp spread before i kill the whole spawn.
There is plenty of time on the 3min objective so i decide to help the others; i leave my follower on West and burn towards the guy dealing with the 1 on South. I insta-pop the spawn when i get there, i make a u-turn towards North to help the 2 guys struggling with the 3 there, confident that the guy on South can clear the tractor beams by himself.
As i'm getting to North my big buffs have come off cooldown and i lay into the spawn, killing it in a few seconds.
At that point there was 50s left on the 3min fail objective, so i figured we had it... but wait! what?! The guy that had followed me to West had just showed up at North after not clearing the tractor beams on West...
I burn to West fast and noticed he had only done 1 tractor beam. The guy on South had freed the 1 there... I peek out from behind West asteroid and saw that everyone at North had abandoned it and gone to the 1 on East... without clearing the Tractor Beams.
This had been an easy ANRA, 3 spawns killed with enough time to free 3 ships... but "Special" pugs happened.
B-b-b-b-b-but you're being an Elitist Sarcasmdetector; these pugs should be able to play their own silly playstyle in advanced queues and get the advanced rewards. The queue is just too difficult.
Me in my Scimitard. Pretty basic build, DHCs, parses near 30k on a relatively good day.
PUG:
RA Sovvie, rainbow turrets. Call him Jim.
Duntless, basic tetryon turrets with a couple of single beams on the rear. And an antiproton omni beam from Sphere of Influence. Call him Bob.
Obelisk (seriously, people still use those?). Looks like quantum and har'peng torps up front with plasma mines aft. Call him Freddy.
Elachi dreadnought, massive ego, basic shuttles. Call him DPS Epeen.
I hit the cube with everything I have. It still takes about a minute to wipe the first wave, and most of that is from my alpha strike. DPS Epeen is caught in a core breach and posts about a page and a half of allcaps rants to chat about how incompetent we are. Freddy and Jm die, Bob gets wasted but barely lives.
I tell Bob to help me with the left cube and then prepare for the spheres. He replies with "ok i new just bougt dleta pak". But at least he listens. DPS Epeen screams about how Bob is a n00b for flying a duntless, Jim and Freddy are trolls for not flying the latest t6s, and I'm a cheater who hax because everyone knows that Scimitars are useless now.
Notwithstanding that I've got my Intelligence, Commando, and Rommie faction starship traits, and I have all reps filled. And I've been playing this build with minor tweaks since before DR and it's only gotten better.
So I ignore DPS Epeen, I kill the cube, the chuckle-heads respawn as does DPS Epeen who proceeds to sit and do nothing while ranting, and Bob goes off to sit by the gateway to meet the spheres. He PMs me to say that he's "reding te isntcrutions". So he's a newbie, not a n00b. Good.
DPS Epeen starts telling Bob that he's a filthy leecher as Jim and Freddy come up and start shooting the transformer. I tell Bob to stay where he is and gravity well the spheres as they come. He says "i have gravy well and tkyen rift"; I reply with "Good, use both on the spheres when they spawn" and demolish the generators in about 20 seconds. Jim and Freddy keep shooting the transformer, I kill the guard spheres because I can, hit EM and drop a CSV/Neutronic Spread volley on the spheres in Bob's grav well, obliterating two of them, spin back as fast as I can while DPS Epeen continues his ranting in chat, then I just lay in to the transformer, checking the spheres every few seconds just in case. Fortunately, Bob is not a complete idiot, and is shooting the spheres, which combined with one more grav well from him and the damage I already did is enough to contain and destroy most of them. I blow the transformer. Jim and Freddy lumber around for a bit and wander off towards the gate, which they shoot for a few seconds before being instakilled with torp crits.
We're short on time, so I PM Bob with a quick version of his role in the plan; he says he can keep the spheres contained, so I leave him to it, popping all of my heals and railing into the guardian cube on the right with CRF.
DPS Epeen finally says that he's bringing his epic DPS and OP ship into the game, and lumbers forward to start working on the generators with...
Rainbow beams.
I think I know this guy. I ran into him before DR, when he was in a Scimitard and bragging about his DPS.
Wonderful.
So he's doing next to nothing, and I finish off the cube, blow 2 gens, rail into the first wave of spheres which Bob is doing a decent job of handling even if his DPS is next to nothing.
Jim and Freddy lumber up, Jim shoots at the spheres to negligible effect while Freddy tries the gate, gets blown up, and says "guys its bug, gate not take damge".
DPS Epeen stops shooting and starts ranting.
It goes pretty standard from there. I blow the transformer thanks so a lucky Neutronic torp crit, granting us precious seconds. Bob and I finish off the spheres and I tell him to GTFOOT, which he does as the tac cube spawns on his rear. He positions himself up near the gate and starts shooting to little effect, but it's better than nothing. Jim and Freddy, both with lots of injuries, respawn and attack the tac cube, getting swiftly obliterated.
DPS Epeen is still ranting, but at least he's occasionally shooting the gate and his shuttles are attacking it.
I'm taking heavy fire, so I pop every defense buff I have and shoot every single bit of firepower I have at the gate, up to and including the Nimbus distress call, Isokinetic Cannon (thank you, polaron build, you're actually pretty dang effective here), and the t5 Nukara rep skill. Timer's ticking, final minutes.
DPS Epeen finally does something...he's going to attack the tac cube to "show you n00btards how a real man fights". Jim and Freddy are dead again, neither is healing injuries.
My buffs cycle, and thank Cthulhu for neutronic torp crits. We might just make it.
DPS Epeen dies and starts allcaps ranting about bugs and loser teammates and why didn't we heal or buff him and his DPS.
Bob subnucs the tac cube, through pure luck just as all of its buffs cycle, and we survive its initial assault. My buffs cycle, I attack.
DPS Epeen eventually respawns just as my Faeht starship trait activates, and is obliterated when he draws aggro.
I attack again, Bob is using his sci skills, thank Cthulhu, and we get it down to 10% with three more deaths each from Jim and Freddy.
Final seconds. I'm afraid we're not going to make it. Bob's below 50%, Jim and Freddy have just respawned, and DPS Epeen is full-impulse-ing right into the cube...
Bob's going down, so he uses Ramming Speed and Abandon Ship, which through oh thank Cthulhu a decent crit hits the tac cube on its down shield facing just as DPS Epeen's core breach hits. 5%. And I'm facing a downed shield facing.
And TS3 just cycled.
CRF. TS3. Isokinetic Cannon. Cutting beam.
Boom.
3 seconds to spare.
I thank Bob and point him towards my favorite build resources. DPS Epeen rants and raves, I put him back on ignore (not sure how he got off). Jim and Freddy leave without a word.
Pick up my phat lewt, with the bonus rare materials drop. Victory.

dunno if this counts but its been driving me crazy....Undine Infiltration Elite.......answering the wrong question on an NPC. I mean 1 wrong and its mission fail game over. Just this last one I ran. Defended the Orb (Check).... Npc cleared/quarantined (9/10) and some1 goes running to the last guy and guess wrong. TRIBBLE so now its a 30 min cd to que again and 10 min wait to get in. For Elite and even Adv and would rather that if you don't know the Questions per NPC don't do that part stay near the orb room or get fires. Its not like that PvE has a mechanic that say each player must clear/quarantine 2 npc.......
and I'm a cheater who hax because everyone knows that Scimitars are useless now.

Whomever stated that a SB Rifle is a poor choice is mistaken; it is the one of the FEW exploit weapons that has ZERO warmup time for it's secondary. THAT, my friends, is important.
I have never ran a 3 pc of anything for borg ground STFs; I have always used fleet armors and perhaps the badass Nuka shield. I'll keep a fractal remodulator for the LULz. Sheeit, I was using Chromo armor for the longest time just dandy.
The TR-116b is an excellent rifle, however. Great against borg and Elachi. It should be in everyone's bag of tricks.

On my KDF which had KHG pulsewave, I didn't carry sniper as my secondary.
There are several key combinations that work well, depending on the map and your enemies:
pulsewave+splitbeam (or sniper)
sniper+fullauto
sword+sniper (or pulsewave)
For the examples above, shotgun is really just a pulsewave.

"No matter where you go...there you are."
Yes is does some damage but the primary use is to suck up enemy ships and hold them!
Victory.
EDIT: DPS parse:
Me: 27k. (in fairness, I spent a lot of time racing around and cloaking to avoid death)
Bob: 2.5k.
DPS Epeen: .5k.
Jim: 437.
Freddy: 312.
That's just pathetic.
My sides are killing me.

wow 1.2k combined dps from the bottom 3??? I mean I know man dps sucks but at least my worse capt/ship can do 1.2k on a really bad day
Jim and Freddy were terminal n00bs who spent most of their time dead, and DPS Epeen was a giant ego who spent most of the STF sitting and ranting as his Sheshar did diddly-squat.

It was around a 10 second run for me...my fastest yet! Though I get to try again in an hour.
Ship hadn't even reached full impulse after I get on the map when the reward window pops up. Somebody had bailed on an about to fail...and I got 10 Omega Marks out of it! Wheeeee...
...I'm going to go watch TV.
