Why would I 'have" to buy 1 or 2 of them? Will they make PvE so hard I cannot complete it unless I buy a C-Store ship?
Because they'll eventually release a c-store version of a ship you absolutely have to have. And unlike other MMOs where you quest for items you want, here you just buy them.
it looks like they might go F2P and allow the "16 new ships" for subscribers.
They do look like they're going F2P. But they don't look like they're going to add 16 new ships for subscribers.
So then nothing in the game can ever be fixed or rebalanced?
Did I say that?
No, I did not.
But lobbying Cryptic to change this particular thing right now, in the face of what's been said by Dstahl, is pointless.
The ship is here. IF it creates a big problem in PvP, IF there are lots of people using that ship to completely pwn other players who are not using that ship, that is useful feedback.
The outcry is against "pay-to-win" and that Cryptic MIGHT be planning to do that across the board. Well, demonstrate that it is actually happening.
Everybody admits that PvP is suboptimal, to say the least. Nobody, including the Devs, are completely happy with it. When the attention turns back to PvP -- and we all agree that it is not currently getting attention -- then see if any P2W issues are getting addressed.
Why would they bother to rebalance it right now, when PvP is not the focus? They've got 16 new ships coming. Let them come, then talk about rebalancing the lot of them along with fixing PvP in general. Preferably once they've hired a game designer with PvP experience.
The outcry is against "pay-to-win" and that Cryptic MIGHT be planning to do that across the board.
So the outcry is against the Rhode Island, and the 15 other ships Dstahl and friends have confirmed are coming and are similarly balanced. This is not something they might do it's what they said they are doing. This is "the plan."
Now, you suggest that we shouldn't complain because it hasn't yet come to pass. Which is great except when it HAS come to pass, as we've seen with the Rhode Island, well, then the response is...
Why would they bother to rebalance it right now, when PvP is not the focus?
1) We have performance-based rewards in PvE. This is NOT just a PvP issue.
2) There are 15 more ships on the way in the same vein as the Rhode Island. Fixing ONE thing NOW is easier than fixing FIFTEEN things LATER. Especially after you've been selling them all for months.
3) The guys who handle this aren't content designers. Stuff like this is what they do. If they aren't fixing this it's because they are working on the 15 other ships patterned after it, thus exacerbating the problem. Ignoring this problem doesn't get anyone more content, it just allows the problem to persist.
3) For the same reason FAW and other issues are being addressed... you don't leave balance in shambles. It ruins any sense of fair play, destroys any competitive portion of the game, and drives players away.
The Rhode Island is not even a overpowered ship. It may be better than any current T2 ship right now but as far as saying it's overpowered. Your all a bunch of whiners. You show me a Rhode Island ship that can defeat a T5 ship and I'll show you a Vice Admiral who doesn't know how to play the game. It's a better tier 2 ship without a doubt but guess what, people who buy things get better things, thats plain and simple. Overpowered is when you include beams that can penetrate shielding and do double the damage. Or maybe shields that can survive species 8472's weapons without even blinking.
Seriously Cryptic has to generate revenue and the way they do that is by selling things on C-Store. Nothing they have sold has been ridiculously overpowered. Truth is your all a bunch of whiners who don't want to pay for a Rhode Island but want to get it. Well guess what, if your all too cheap to buy it then get on the back of the bus and wait for it to come out in game purchase. The new Rhode Island is a great job and a fine addition to the game. It's not seriously overpowered and truth is if your a T5 captain and you can't defeat a Rhode Island class starship, take a good look at yourselves because the reality is you pretty much such at STO.
Unless problems can't be fixed or balance can't be restored there IS a point to complaining about it.
And you reiterate:

So the message is "Don't complain NOW! Complain AFTER it's happened! Oh, but AFTER it's happened it's too late! So don't complain THEN either!"
That's an excellent strategy.

Simply put, if you prepare for thieves after they have already broken in, that leaves you at a disadvantage.

You pretty much did, yes.

lol

So now we're going to equate Cryptic to thieves?

Does this help?
Because you are better than that:cool:.
Let's try to refrain from calling people names in our thread titles.
