Double holy path, psy will, kill. Vacuity, double holy path again, stop before boss, psy will, kill. Triple spark and kill boss, frogs. No sweat. Get a purify weapon and you can skip the vacuity.

Virulent poison can drain about half a spark from one target using a moderately high strength genie. Mantle ripple does basically nothing. I ran the numbers on this at one point and even with GoF, a 5aps blade falls short of G16 fists. 5aps with a GoF r8.2 poleaxe might be different...

SoV is impacted by atk/def levels. It would be funny to see soulburn on steelation when he goes 5aps.

Switch GoF with purify for a week. Or maybe purge, and purge yourself on SoV.

There's not much else to balance though. After 3cast gear, cube neck, level 9 tome (puts you at 50 dex min, maybe bump to 60), all you're left with are options for helm/cape. Even still, that 20 dex needs to account for almost 2x as much damage to be worthwhile. So, perhaps it is worthwhile when buffed and triple-sparked since 3spark roughly doubles your damage, but you're losing out on dps when not triple sparked. I might graph it out on a spreadsheet.

With a crit rate like that you're about 19% cumulative higher than most endgame sage psy's. Your mag attack however is incredibly gimped for endgame, about 2/3 what it could be, and 20% lower hp, lower atk/def levels... All in all your build looks on par with r9.1 for the price tag of r9.3 or higher. Meh.

You can use it for extending pulls in the water pavilion. Cloud + BT, followed by Will plus maybe a vacuity + leaps if you have any chi left. Throw an oxy bubble in there somewhere if you're worried about timing.

Shards and hp aren't the only thing affecting your survivability in the cases I mentioned. To give an extreme example, what if SoS proc'd on every hit, or psy will were a 5 minute buff instead of 8-10 sec? Would defense shards still double your survivability?

It makes an assumption that your opponent is continuously attacking you. For a Psychic, either they're going to have to use their genie or apo to continuously hit you (or get sealed, breaking their attacks) and for a sin they might not do anything at all (focused mind). I think Asterelle's defense calculator is less effective for certain classes, particularly sins and psy's due to our long-lasting passive defense buffs and active phys immune buffs. Take it with a salt shaker.

I didn't know the proc rate delta was so low. I'd like an adv purge spear or better, an axe for aoe's but when I chose my r8 weapon, the sword was the most cost-effective to round out my armory. At the very least I'd use aps gear with the bow, and it does have a range advantage... I'll try it sometime down the road.

My reflexive response is - don't do it slew!!! I'm actually planning to stat up 287 dex for an advanced purge bow after getting a L9 tome. On the other hand if all you are focusing on are casters, and just use our now-plentiful 100% acc skills on sins/archers, pure str may not be as bad.
