I guess it depends. Do you prefer to do stuff solo or in squads? Squads? Cleric might be the one, or maybe mystic. Solo a good chunk of pve content? Maybe seeker. Your preferences are kind of vague though :P Play a little of each till you find what you like?

According to the guide it's not the elder who takes the medals. It's Dizzy. Speak to the Elder to get the quest then give your medals to Dizzy. :)

What Evict said. Also the fastest speed they can be spurred to is 10m/s or 9m/s depending on which spur and mount you buy.
