This is useful to see if anyone else had used your account and from where. Let's say that one day it says you logged on from an obscure place at a time where you clearly werent playing. That gives you enough info to send a ticket and start tracking the person who did it.
I'm actually thankful for this.[sigpic][/sigpic]LOVE
Information: It is proven that the majority of the Perfect World International player base suffers from "Motorcylophobia".
-Every single patch to an MMO causes players to cry: "They Changed It, Now It Sucks". Every. Single. Patch. -Taken from TV Tropes.0 -
Um. Knowing an IP address and that you have PWI installed does not make it more likely that they'll be able to break into your machine.
Having the IP address shown DOES allow you to see "Hang on, someone ELSE was logged into my account while I was away"
It's not like your IP address is a state secret. You're sending it out every time you visit a web-page, or do anything else online - you HAVE to, so that their servers know where to send the data back to.0 -

^Perfect post.
If you happen to be mildly paranoid, install a real firewall (Windows Firewall is fail) and learn to monitor your computers state regularly.0 -

This is a serious bad judgment on your part, and I really hope to see you remove it immediately from the game. The other glitches I can live with but this NO WAY. b:angry
"Say your account was ****", it would show an IP address or IP mask other than your own or the one you were last logged in at. This is actually a useful security feature. Unfortunately there's always some know-nothing to complain about every single little thing in the game.0 -
I think this is a nice feature, finally something use full,
It be awesome if the serve could record and restrict you IP address.
Like for instance, modem cable don't change address, so it could restrict my account login to the 111.222.333.xxx meaning only the 3 last digit could change.
They could then do like Steam, send an e-mail, and require a confirmation that your actually the user of that account if you IP change to much.
Now that is a lot more use full then a cheap core client[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
TCHP - Lost City wrote: »Like for instance, modem cable don't change address, so it could restrict my account login to the 111.222.333.xxx meaning only the 3 last digit could change.
I mean yeah, you could restrict your login range just to your ISP's full range, but not only does that still let anyone else on your ISP use your account, but it would mean that you couldn't log into your account if you were using any ISP other than your own temporarily (like, if you took your laptop to a friend's house who uses a different ISP, or to a public WiFi location). So, probably more trouble than it's worth.
Your internal IP, on the other hand, is known only to your router and you have to deliberately open ports for specific internal IPs to be vulnerable to any sort of hacking (and even then, the hacker would need to know the port). Now security isn't my strong suit, but I've never heard of a **** that can take control of your PC just by knowing your IP address. I would think they'd at least need to install some kind of control software first. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Do you find yourself constantly giving others "access" to your machine because of this? No, stupid. Save the paranoia.

That's why I said like my cable modem.... My cable modem does not change IP.
But My Adsl does every times it log on the ISP.
Yes I have 2 Internet connection.
Also it is why I said e-mail confirmation, even trough it would provide a loop hole to hacker if they also have your e-mail password.
And yes it would restrict it to my ISP, Making the possible number of hacker to 255 knowed IP address.
Even if it's possible to fake and IP address. I believe it would be a lot harder to do.
Oups I'm log on my alt lol0 -

I especially give criticism to people who know little about what it is they're talking about and in their own naive panic and paranoia try to worry others. If you don't like an opinion that's more educated on the subject criticizing your post for unnecessary panic spreading, don't post yourself. Maybe you should try learning first before freaking out over a useful (brand new) feature.
I was fine with the answers here, and after having my computer **** in the past and knowing how easily it can be done. I think my paranoia as it has been put was justified . Secondly, for someone who is around family (that may not live in the same house) who use computers and play the same games, or someone who plays from a more public IP range like a school dorm or at school at all, it's another helpful feature. Unfortunate if you can't see it's positive points, but every game is full of security holes. F2P games tend to have more than the more popular P2P, this is widely known.
The IP address is posted to you and you alone. If you don't like this feature you can ignore it. Don't tell others, however, that there's no reason for it. The fact that you don't know much regarding what you're talking about obviously hasn't stopped you from voicing a rather ridiculous panic-inducing opinion. Hence, you gain the criticism you deserve.
There was no panic induced issue involved, I am not the only one who felt this way, World chat was full of it when the servers came back online but I guess I was the only one that decided to express concern about it on the forums. There was no panic causing PWI people to freak out an stop playing it was just a rant. The first couple of responses explained perfectly well that there was no harm in it. All i want is the information put in a better place where we can monitor the IP changes out of the game. I can see the positive points quite clearly, but again the information would be better used out of game play. But again your all going to come back with some off handed remark about how little I know .If at first you don't succeed, Hide the evidence and blame the dog b:chuckle0 -
I don't know about you, but when I see post saying everyone's account is now compromised that would give me some sense of alarm. I'm gonna have to agree with Janus on this one, a better way to do it would be to ask what the purpose was and is it secure. Instead of writing in an authoritative matter that someone who also didn't know any better might read and believe. If something is said with enough authority, people will believe. It's part of the reason the white house banquet crashers were so successful. They did seem like they belonged there to the security, who should have paid more attention. Of course there are many other stupid reasons they were successful, but still. This is also why the moderators are constantly confused for GMs, due to the fact that they have faster connections to the CMs and are thus sometimes able to relay information quickly, they are able to post with authority on a wide variety of subjects. To the point that people forget they are just players and that they can be and are wrong on occasion. When you post on these forums you open yourself up to criticism and rightfully so as it sometimes prevents disinformation from being spread around. Although, I must agree with pep, there isn't a need for name calling.
/tldr version, be careful of the way you phrase things it can sometimes have unintentional side effects. When you post you are opening yourself to criticism.Mysticpep - Dreamweaver wrote: »There was no panic induced issue involved, I am not the only one who felt this way, World chat was full of it when the servers came back online but I guess I was the only one that decided to express concern about it on the forums. The reason the information is better provided in game is that not everyone uses the forums. In fact, every maintenance someone makes a thread asking why the servers are down, and someone else makes on asking if it's indeed maintenance. Every.single.patch. This is because the vast majority of the playerbase just wants to play the game, not talk about it all the time. So if they do happen to wonder in here, they don't know how to use it and make errors in judgement on how/where/and what to post. By putting it in game, everyone has access to the information.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

if a hacker hacks ur account and checks the last logged IP then now he knows both ur account AND ur IP address. good job.
if the guy has any kind of computer skill he will know how to make use of that IP and it wont be a good thing.
yes there are sites (like this one) that tracks ur IP information. but those same sites do not give that info out publicly. prepared to get DDOSed hardcore if someone does **** ur acc. and i feel sry for the ppl with static IPs that cant change there IPs on the fly.0 -

if a hacker does **** ur account and sees ur IP address freely then he wont have to go throuh the pain of getting it from other means. thats the point. most hackers are just content with hacking ur acc, but if they are given IP address that easily as well then that just gives them more ways to mess with u.0 -

why do ppl think its some "super elite hacker" ?
the IP is given to u FOR FREE when they log on to ur account from a keylog or something. it doesnt take a super elite hacker to know that u can do some stuff with that IP.
these types of ppl wouldnt get ur IP normally, but now its givent to them freely basically. thats my point.0 -
