4. Reawakening

Master of Cycles

Requirements: 100+, lv 89 culti

To initiate the quest chain for reawakening, you must meet the above two requirements.
Doing so will give you a purple quest to go see General Summer.
This will lead you to the Master of Cycles npc.

He will give you an item that will enable you to reborn your character and set you back to level 1.
You will also be given a fairly strong level 1 weapon and chest piece to use for the early levels.
A new circle with the number 1 will appear by your character portrait in the upper left, telling you have reborn once and now have 4x exp for mobs and quests (yes, quests).

The Master of Cycles npc will give you surprisingly detailed information on what reawakening will and will not do for you once you are set back to level one.

Some of these effects are:

Your culti will not be reset.
Your stats will be wiped, but depending on what level you reborn at, you will get extra stat points.
Your gear such as belts, capes, rings are wearable at level 1 because they are not stat dependent.
Gear that is stat dependent will not be wearable until you get to a high enough level to have enough stat points to wear them.
You can use your high level genie.
You can use ALL of your skills, demon/sage, 79 and 100, etc.
Quests that are level dependent will not be available to you until you reach the appropriate level.
You can use all pots.

Depending on when you reawaken, you will gain extra stat points.
The list is as follows:

100 = 20
101 = 25
102 = 32
103 = 42
104 = 56
105 = 76

You will not lose out on extra stat points if you reborn before 105.
If you reborn with one of your attributes at 3, it will stay at 3, and reimburse you the 2 points for not having it at 5.

The current cap for reawakening is 2 times.
A look into the game files reveals that reawakening is possible up to 10 times.

A chain of quests at level 1, 11, 21, 31, etc will be available for you do to help level up and get war avatar cards.
The quests give decent exp, and is complemented by your new 4x multiplier.

Ancient Tome

When you reawaken, you will have access to a new feature called the Ancient Tome, available as a tab next to your titles and order info on the character window.
It is a book that records when you first made your character, each time you reawaken, and your highest level before reawakening.

The ancient tome will allow you to retro-actively level your old character to 105 by taking all of your new exp and adding it to your old character level from before you were reborn.

5. Primal World and Place of Origination

Primal World

The Primal World is a new map designed for players who have reborn to take part in quest chains to gain vitae for their Arcane Sky levels.

Upeon reawakening, you are set at Arcane Sky I.
In order to level this up, you need vitae, and lots of it.

Arcane Sky levels are needed to learn new skills and upgrade them.
Arcane Sky goes up to X (10), Mirage Sky is the second set of levels.

The primal world is accessible early on after being reborn, however the mobs there are far too strong to do at early levels.

Primal World can be entered via the Messenger of Time npc (aka oht maps), or at the Morai tele npc.

Pictures of Primal World

The new map won't be fully available at once.
Areas will be unlocked once the Boundary hits 100% (viewable by pressing m).
Boundary increases for every player that reaches Arcane Sky 10.

A new instance is available in Primal World.

Dailies:
XDeliciousx's guide on new dailies includes Primal World Dailies

Pictures of the full map

Place of Origination

The first picture is actually of the new starter area. The left side is primal world unlocked, while the right side of the map is Sanctuary.
The new starter area previews both of these areas, but are entirely separate from the actual maps.

Things to note in the new starter area:
You cannot enter with an older character.
You cannot reenter if you leave.
Many items given here expire upon leaving.
Certain features and quests will not work during your stay in Place of Origination.
(For example, this includes signing in, unique rewards, cash shop)

The new starter area gives small amounts of exp, sp, enough for someone to get up to level 5 or 6.
Doing the quests will overall net you a tiger pet, a mount (7.0 m/s Dark Machinated Terror), and 4 treasure hunt jade seal orbs to bring back to the main world.

There are 5 new racial titles to get from the starting point:
-New- 9. [Earth Born] Available for newly created Earthguard characters.
-New- 10. [Lunar Destined] Available for newly created Human characters.
-New- 11. [A Distant Melody] Available for newly created Elf characters.
-New- 12. [Roiling Sea] Available for newly created Fish characters.
-New- 13. [Primal Scream] Available for newly created Foxies & FLuffies.

The main drop to collect in the new starter area are Aquametals. These tokens are used to redeem many rewards, some which expire upon leaving Place of Origination.
Aquametals can be traded at the Little Dawn npc for a bigger tiger pet (500 tokens), a lord cuddlesworth (500 tokens), a 7.0 m/s dark unicorn (5000 tokens), and 5 fliers at 1.5+ / 3.5+ (9999 tokens).
All of the fash available at this npc expire upon leaving. Pointless to get, since you get the sapphire set from a quest anyways (also expires).

You can also trade in 1000 tokens for a "bless box" (it's just a box of items for once you hit lvl 60).

After completing all of the quests in Place of Origination, you will have four jade seal orbs in your inventory.
These 4 orbs will start a treasure map hunt at level 30.

The hunt is simple: find the four npcs, get their pieces of the treasure map, and find the treasure.
Two npcs are on Nameless Isle with the name Mysterious Person, and the other two are on separate boats in the dock in East Archosaur (not on the big boat out of Arch like the item description claims).
Talking to each npc will give you 4 separate quests to hunt for 4 specific locations. Reaching these specific spots will make a treasure chest appear for 10 minutes.
The four treasure map rewards are a makeover scroll, 3 guardian scrolls, 1 100k hp charm, and 5 fantasy fruits.

6. War Avatar

Essentially, a trading card system that gives bonuses to your stats.
Cards can be got from packs given in new quests such as the new dailies or new reborn quests.
There are 6 types of cards for each slot they occupy (Destroyer, Battle, Longevity, Durability, Soulprime, Lifeprime).
These different types give different bonuses and different types of Nuema.
Cards can be leveled up by devouring extra/unwanted cards.
Nuema itself gives its own bonuses.

I'm a bit late to the party, numerous guides are available on this.

Flowsilver Palace in Primal World gives war avatar cards.

A guide on Nuema by Sinclere

7. Skill Updates

The jist of this is that the new skills/skill updates are upgrades to sage/demon skills and mergers of others.
They're got after being reborn.
Mergers remove the old skills that were merged.

Asterelle has done wonderful work on this, from locating the skills to finding out their requirements and more.
Asterelle's guide on the skill updates

8. Auto-Cultivation

A botting system implemented by what I presume wanmei's attempt to help combat/give in to gold farmers.

In addition to the better auto path, this botting feature is another way of doing nothing on your part to gain exp and items.

You can set up the bot to use one kind of skill for attacking and buffing, or you can use macros to set up more complex combos.
You can set up how long to run the bot.
You can choose to loot all items, coins only, or none at all.
You can set up auto potting with a recovery stone as well via assisting settings.
I've noticed there are certain conditions in which the bot will port to town, though I do not not what they are.

Discussion on Botting practices.
Sevchenko has tips on how to set up your bot.

9. Archosaur Studio

Wanmei made a big deal about this on their site.
Apparently they were deving again for this expansion.

Also referred to as "Zu Long Studio", Archosaur Studio is responsible for the mmo that we know and love.

Archosaur Studio did the main framework of the game, from the engine to the three races to the main map.
The content that has followed after PWI's launch has been done by Wanmei.

I made a timeline of some of Archosaur Studio's work:

Archosaur Studio Time Line

1997 - Archosaur Studio Founded
1999 - Honor and Glory
2003 - Militarism (E-pie Entertainment) / Shanghai Dragon (E-pie Entertainment)
2005 - Perfect World (Wanmei/PW Beijing)
2007 - Jade Dynasty / Dragon Oath
2009 - Genghis Khan / Beijing Infinite World Co.,Ltd founded
2010 - Infinite World
2013 - Arch works on PW again

Sources

Archosaur Studio stopped working for Wanmei sometime in 2007/2008.
As a result, PW has had patches and expansions that do little to expand on the older parts of PW. The claim here is that Wanmei is unable to effectively changed what Archosaur Studio did. Whether that's due to inexperienced devs or lack of documentation on the source code is not known.

In Wanmei's announcement post, Wanmei officially announced that Archosaur Studio will start developing for PW again. It appears they will be working towards a long time goal of renovating pw.
It is not known whether the current team of Archosaur Studio is the same team that worked on PW.

For fun, here is a picture of the Arch team back on 12/31/2004.

This picture was fished up from the p2p pw site on the internet archive. This was before p2p pw or pwcn was released.

You know... regardless of what Arch Studios does, or doesn't do to fix the game, I'm so glad they're actually getting attention again, after previously being relegated to one of the deepest pits of forgotten PWI lore. That alone is worth celebrating.

Maybe part of PWE's marketing for this expansion could be a brief showcase-style overview of the Arch Studios team? I'd be very interested in knowing if they're the same bunch or a different one. Most likely it'll be a few of each.

Given the history on expansions and development from back when Archosaur dev's were still working on things, the announcements, and other timing. I would guess that it will hit PWCN between Thanksgiving and January, and we'll see it about 2-3 months after that.

From what I was able to discern from the server data, a good portion of the Tideborn expansion was already developed by Archosaur in 2008 when we entered the game with PWI. Portions of the Earthguard were in the files as well, but most of what I could find was just base character data and some map content. (I never did go digging through the quests, but looking at this thread, I feel like poking around again.)

If anyone is going to be able to expand our class system, it will be Archosaur. I imagine that it will require at least partially re-writing the core system that the server is based on.

Bubbles, if you want some older client files, I am pretty sure I have everything on one of my network drives. Theres a good chance I still have the client files from closed beta, and I know I've got some of the server files hanging around too.

That's all very exciting, with one glaring exception.

If PWI introduces R10 and its accumulation is as onerous as R9 was, then my soon-to-be 105 rrr9 archer and his army of alts will quietly retire. I'm finished working my butt off to chase the credit-card-cowboys.

That's not to say that I begrudge anyone their choices, either the cowboys or PWI. I've always said I'll play till it's no longer fun. Having come this far only to drop back into mediocrity with neither the free time nor the inclination to spend thousands to catch up will bring me to that trigger.

You're just describing classic power creep here, and while I'm sure Arch Studios wouldn't have gone for R9 at all, they may be limited in how they can address that particular problem. At this point I'm content to wait and see what they come up with. It strikes me as extremely unlikely that this dev house would just pile on another 30 attack levels to R9S3 and call it a day, like our current one would.

It's worth noting that keeping up with the power creep in any game is not likely to be a very fulfilling experience to most. :P This is why PVP is so broken in PWI. I'm very curious what their fixes to PVP will be.

I think it is too late for that now. It's all about keeping us mainstays, staying.
That's usually what any developer would do for a game that's been developed for so long. The idea of attracting new blood to an aging game is an increasingly uphill battle, on the other hand, retaining players who've been around for a while is a much easier task with content.

I'm with Eoria on server merges. The more servers are spread thin, the faster people will leave. That's one significant reason why server merges are done in the first place.

I'm interested in what content will come of this. Not much into rumours though.

Honestly, as much as I would like to see a world expansion/fixes and new classes, there is a point in a product lifetime where it's just better to let it die with dignity and not just try to endlessly patch it to extend it's life for a little bit. I was excited to see the old dev team coming back to the game, but then I started thinking a little bit more...and ... What I hope is that Archosaur team will bring this game into 2013, or more, 2014 because it's closer.
The whole idea and concept of this game is obviously a good one, giving how much money/people are still in this game after the current owners just messed up with it for 4 years. So, why not take this good core and port it to a new GFX engine? The are a lot of parts that can be used so it's not like they need to develop everything from scratch. There are quite a few game engines out there that look amazing and working with one of them about 1 year ago I can tell you if the class characteristics are well done (basically class balance) the rest of the world/quests/story is very easy to add. The most work is with balancing classes/creating skills/testing skills .
A huge amount of work on fixes and expansions for current game will prolong a little bit the life of an almost dead game.
Same game on a new engine, that could be something to show off to the world would bring a lot more players and will insure an income for probably quite some years in the future.

If the Archosaur studios is back the most probable the first that they will say is "what the hell have you been doing to our game!!?" Leaving the jokes to one side, With the previous experience of Wanmei and the game named "Swordsman online" if they want to do changes they will not doub on trow to the garbaje what they have done and start again. And if Archosaur studio is with them again, i wish see what they will do with the Angelica engine III

Given who's doing it, I'm also interested in the new content. But I'm more interested in the fixes. There's no reason they can't attract new players as well as retaining old ones, and it's not like advertising is as expensive as new content development.

Old player retention, new player retention, new blood, server merges, PVE and PVP balancing... hell, maybe multiple servers with different play options (we wouldn't be the first game to do it). All of these are important and need to happen.

Arch Studios will be inheriting quite a mess here, though... and they would not likely throw away too much of what the RT-era devs have done. Even if it would fix the game, a lot of it is too deeply entrenched to be moved. They have to tread lightly to find the balance between necessary fixes and wholesale dismantling.

The best part about this, really, is that being the original crafters of the code, they'll have far fewer qualms about putting their hands in it and actually fixing things, rather than just stapling new content onto it without regard for theme, cohesiveness, or in some cases even function with the older code.

Yes, I'm still a stubborn holdout in favor of the old game. Haters gonna hate. ;]

Archosaur Studio never stopped working on games.
The most recent I can find is that in 2009/2010 they worked on Infinite World (chinese mmo ofc...).

I uninstalled and for the last year or so i have been coming back to these forum every now and again just to see if there would be any hope for this game to come back to life. I am so happy to see this and to be honest it kinda feels unreal to know that one of my favorite games of all time might finally get a breathe of fresh air and come back to life (even if it's not life how it use to be). One of the reasons I left was because the game seemed like such a waste of potential. I mean this game breathes creativity and has such a nice foundation and world, that even if it doesn't have to look of the newer games out there it still has the substance to compete. It was hard watching this game go down as if it were just made to be some cheap cash in, and as a creative person and a soon to be game developer that sees this as a inspiration it was depressing to watch.

Really interested to see how this plays out and will be installing as soon as i get my laptop.

    Thanks bubbles b:victory

Why did they stuff the white guy in the pw dev staff picture all the way in the back? Or is he a studio janitor or someone who snuck into the photo? xD

Looks like I wasted another afternoon on google yet again.

After realizing Archosaur Studio = Zu Long Studio, I found a lot of information on our dear devs and just enough info to build a time line.

I found a nice page on Arch Studio here.
It specifically says they worked on PW and Jade Dynasty (released in China in 2007), so we at least know they worked with Wanmei after PW was released. At the earliest, they worked with Wanmei until 2007. Maybe that 2008 estimation isn't that far off...

    Archosaur Studio Time Line

    1997 - Archosaur Studio Founded
    1999 - Honor and Glory
    2003 - Militarism (E-pie Entertainment) / Shanghai Dragon (E-pie Entertainment)
    2005 - Perfect World (Wanmei/PW Beijing)
    2007 - Jade Dynasty / Dragon Oath
2009 - Genghis Khan / Beijing Infinite World Co.,Ltd founded
    2010 - Infinite World
2013 - Arch works on PW again

I've seen a reference that while Archosaur Studio is based in China, they have international members as well.

Believe it or not white people actually live, or work, or study in China too.

Nothing there we don't know about.

The japanese blog has all of those pictures plus some.

Maybe I'll organize them into galleries later.
