The funny part is is that they've mostly just banned anyone who points out a flaw, issue, or disagrees with the general direction of the game regardless of how constructive or destructive the post was.

Also you can say almost anything you want to or about a player the Devs/Mods don't like, but if you touch one of their golden children in one of the raiding guilds they love so much you're looking at a quick ban.

I think its a bad idea due to over-modding on a lot of forums. There is a fine line between keeping things under control and "over-modding" on a forum. I have been on forums where pretty much anything goes and its definitely not much fun so modding is kinda necessary. The bad thing is some companies get it right and some go way too far, to the point where people feel like they have to walk around on eggshells in fear of getting a forum violation. The current state of the Planetside 2 forum is a good example of over-modding. I actually had a 1 day suspension for the first time ever on a forum over something pretty silly. You can actually get a forum violation for quoting a post that had been removed or given a violation. So this guy was making some pretty negative comments about a friend of mine on the game and I had quoted a few of his points. At one point I looked up and noticed that I had two messages in my inbox but I was busy with the argument so I didn't check them. It turned out that they were both warnings for forum violations because of those quoted comments. Next thing I know I'm looking at a screen that says I am banned for a day. That's kinda crazy. There are quite a few people on the game that have been suspended over some really ridiculous things, especially by two mods in particular who have a habit of over-modding and closing down far too many threads. I think SOE is definitely overreaching with their modding. They need to relax a bit. I don't really even post on the forum anymore because of that. So the idea of people getting banned in game over forum suspensions is scary.

When I was a mod for Aeria Games back on an MMO called Last Chaos, we tried to find a good balance and most of the players appreciated it. :D Unfortunately, it got a new Product Manager who cracked down on the forums and in game and banned a lot of people over silly things. That was one of the reasons why I quit.

It stupid if someone is griping about the game in forums its for a good reason, to call it toxic?!? wow forums are the only method of voicing any dissatisfaction that gets noticed.

gaming companies need to put more customer service and customer satisfaction in there mission statements.
I cant remember a single mmo that received a JD.power for anything.

its not like gamers are that hard to please"trolls aside anyway"

    give them an immersive environment.
focus on quality programming for stable gaming experience.
    create regular new updated content.
have your tech team accept full accountability for any tech problems.
and if you cant directly fix an issue then make an acceptable work around.

Banning a player from a game or forums is cutting out an important tool for improving any gaming company.
the satisfied say nothing the truly discontent also say nothing as they feel there voices are not heard and simply leave.

call them complainers whiners "female dogs" what ever they are here there complaining because the like or love the product but wish to see changes improvements or fixes to usually long standing problems.

yes depending on how angry they are the language may be too colorful for everyone... so you remove the post/edit the post/or simply forward it to a thick skinned customer service specialist.

I have working in customer care for over 20 yrs Ill tell you this Nobody calls to tell u what a great job you or your company is doing, they call because they have a problem, they need it fixed and yes if there truly mad dissatisfied they vent.

any remark no mater how disparaging should be left up if its a complaint about a company if for no there reason then to see how many agree and then you know where u need to shift focus to make those ppl happy.

banning wont improve customer satisfaction, TOS flag waving does not improve customer satisfaction.

unsatisfied customer sometimes just need to be heard, and be assured they were herd and that steps will be taken to correct there issue.

whats truly toxic for any mmo is ignoring there problems and the voiced majority and minority for profit because gamers are not stupid and are fickle as well they will take there money and run to the next guy hoping maybe he will get it right.

now the above does not cover true trolls ok if your harassing someone to the point of bulling ban them, there attacking persons not a buisness. give them sufficient warnings if they continue suspend and or ban them yes.

banning from forums for toxic behavior in a forum needs a history lesson as to where the word and intention of a forum is and was?

Seems to me that devs, mods, etc., should focus on the substance of the post instead of the tone! What some deem inappropriate, others do on a daily basis and see no problem. I realize that devs and mods are delicate little flowers who get their feelings hurt way too easily, but this has absolutely no bearing on the substance of the post. Deal with the substance and ignore the tone, and let people say whatever they want to say. If the post is that obnoxious, it will surely get flamed by others on the forum, and that should be enough.

Quite simply, though, flaming is precisely the type of environment that community managers DO NOT wish to promote. This is why such behavior is not permitted in many forums' rules of conduct. It isn't about "feelings getting hurt" because by and large, devs are insulated from public criticism (hence the reason many do not personally respond to issues, either as a matter of practice or of company policy). It's always been said that it isn't what you say, but how you say it that matters. That goes pretty universally.

In the end, it's their sandbox, their rules. Goes for game and forum both. If a person is going to remain a part of the community for the sole purpose of trashing said community, then the company has the right to show them the door unequivocally.
