3 Current Needs

I wanted to create a post discussing three needs many players have for Neverwinter. They're not the most important needs in the eyes of some, but they are very relevant nonetheless. I know many of these have been discussed before, but many threads are now outdated or have been moved.

1) Dual-spec: I believe this is absolutely paramount for the success of Neverwinter. Right now a player can choose a PVP spec, a PVE spec, or a hybrid. This, of course, is severely limiting, because it forces a player to be great at one or the other, or mediocre at both. Havin a dual-spec would let players fully enjoy both PVE and PVP content. This would encourage players to play more Neverwinter. It's only a win for Cryptic!

2) Re-rolling Stats: Many players have had their original characters since Beta (Trace was made slightly after). Although his initial stats are great for PVE, they're sub-par for PVP. As the game evolved, many players found out how important certain stats are to PVP. I can't imagine such an implication would be difficult and it would be amazingly welcomed by the playerbase. Think of the implications? Old players would return because their time invested wasn't wasted? Current players would have characters revitalized? It's only a win for Cryptic!

3) PVE/PVP Union: Right now Cryptic has some amazing, amazing end-game content. Epic DDs, Epic skirmishes, Castle Never and the like. And many people have no reason to run it. At all. It used to be that I was required to run PVE content to gear up for PVP. That is no longer the case. Right now I log on for 2-4 PVP dailies and perhaps GG if the timing is right. Then I go work the AH. I'm not sure how Cryptic would swing this, per se, bringing those two back together would me more time and AD invested all-around. Again, it's only a win for Cryptic!

Yes, yes, Module 3 is around the corner. I understand that. Some people believe this will be a union between PVE and PVP! Finally, an area where everyone is equal and there will be no difference between the two! My speculation, however, is that this will only heighten the difference between PVP and PVE players. You see, Black Ice Gear is PVP-focused (and strongly so). PVPers will expedite their gear, stack strong companions and farm Black Ice like it's going out of style. It will most likely be a nightmare for the lowly PVE-ers coming in to the PVP zone. What will this cause? Even more division in the player base.

Thoughts?

From a RP point of view, re-rolling stats is a bad idea because I see those as associated with a character's inherent abilities. Dumb characters are gonna be dumb.

I don't see it being an issue if it is properly implemented. For example, Reincarnation.

I don't really see how rerolling stats in any different from magically forgetting everything about your class and then spontaneously recalling it all again but slightly differently, especially since that process already allows you to reallocate levelling stats.

1. I disagree. You should have to choose between being optimal in PvE or PvP, or good but not optimal in both. Meaningful choices with real consequences make better games. However, I do want a way to save multiple bar layouts to quickly change your slotted powers (with other powers you already know) with a single command or click. And saved equipment sets that work the same way.

2. I do support a Reincarnation token in the ZEN store that grants a full respec, lets you re-roll stats, and change race and gender. As long as it costs at least 1000 ZEN.

I would also support a way to boost stats so players can make up for these choices later, but only by making additional choices and/or expending significant resources. For example: items or enchantments that give a +1 or +2 to a stat while equipped. Or maybe even as part of the upcoming Post-60 advancement.

3. I disagree here, too. Being able to advance and play just through PvE or PvP is one of the games best features for attracting a diverse player base. Both playstyles need to be valid without having to engage in the other unless you want to.

And dying, then magically respawning back at the beginning of the fight with everyone alive, the boss undamaged and the encounter completely reset isn't? I would also assume that as an RPer, you've only killed each boss in each dungeon once, because obviously going back into the dungeon and seeing that everything is back alive moments after you slaughtered everything was be absolutely out of character.

Right?

first two points i think of and need daily ;p
because i just am lousy now for pve, close to useless.
in gwf hp,regen.
if dual spec ever comes it needs wardrobe function also ;p
dual spec needs separate ability scores also.

didn`t read the 3rd thing yet.
edit: ok have read the 3rd part, you don`t need to come in the pvp part for black ice.

If they included a ridiculous mount like the Gelatine Cube which doesn't appear in D&D as such, then re-rolling stats is fairly possible.

Well, sorry for not being a fan of a stupid mount. Anyway, as mentioned before in this thread, Reincarnation can be an option.

1) yes
2) yes
3) Depends on how they would go about bringing them together. Would be a really delicate situation with how the two sides view each other from some of the forum debates and in game discussions I've seen. It obviously would be nice to see the two communities coming together, but the easier solution at this point would be to just separate the two.

The first 2 aren't really urgent needs. They are QOL updates for sure but not everyone is into min-maxing point of the game. The biggest need IMO is endgame PVE and PVP content.

I like new contents for sure, but being able to fix our builds is more important, imho. If we can't have fun due to broken builds, what's the point of adding new contents?

I believe he was referring to rerolling your base stats. It will help for sure but this isn't a case of something being broken. Its just that you accidentally put some stats into giving you more crit chance when what you want is more HP for PVP.

it's been stated many times in discussions about re-rolling initial ability stats that this is dungeons and dragons based on PnP d&d where your initial ability stats are static with the exception of rare situations. DDO may offer various versions of reincarnation to bypass this but this is not DDO. there are some concessions that are limiting due to the conversion of one medium to the next. there are some concessions that may be considered and some that may not be considered for various reasons including but not limited to WotC stipulations. your arguments may make sense to you as far as why this should be allowed but it's been requested a lot in the forums and it has yet to be implemented in any way, shape or form. will it happen? i think it is doubtful. but that's just my opinion.

in my opinion and experience, a dual spec is unnecessary. pvp and pve are viable using one spec.

as for the last bit, the game is designed so people can play whatever they want in whatever play style they want. the only people that seem to have a problem with this are pvp focused players.

Well, some patches do change class abilities in such a way that stats which were pretty fine just no longer optimal. You seem to think that the right choice for the players that wish their chars to have optimal stats is just to level up & gear a new char every time the devs decide to change class abilities in serious way which happens not so seldom.

I "tried" to make a spec that will be optimal at both pvp and pve,
I ended up becoming the worst of both worlds unfortunately :/

i only dare to play pk with 13.5k gs p.vorpal and stone.
a wardrobe thing could help a tiny bit, but my spec including ability scores just doesn`t allow to do other things, unless the party want 2 hour boss fights ;p
i`d be kicked over and over.
not that i`m a newbie, done all on other chars.

it'd be safer for me to say ymmv. my evidence and experience is mine alone and me reporting it here is anecdotal at best. that's why the best evidence in existence is what we do not have access to: internal game metrics.

yes i understood the first time you used the word experience ;p
it`s also true for a part what you say.
but can`t deny people wanting best for both modes. pvp and pve.

my case is not close to viable even.
i`m pure hp def regen, low dps. no agro what so ever. i`m pure useless in pve :D
but in pvp it works great.
changing only gear won`t make it much better.
basestats,spec matters too much.

only option would be creating another char.
not that i don`t have those.
but nvm, people having to spend ad and time is part of the busness tactic ofcourse.
and if it`s viable to put the man hours in it to make the things.

I mean seriously EVERY RP problem that gets brought up is easily solvable if the RPers just...... RP?

NOPE! There is WAYYYY more QQ from the PvE only players, from complaining about how PvP balancing effects their PvE experience to "now I have to get two sets of gear?" To "I got beat up in PvP I'm sad! make it easier for me!" To the absurd RPers just being difficult: "my GWF has an animation with a shield HOW CAN I RP NOW?!?!"

I can go pull about 20 thread inwhich an RP or PvE player has said "I wish they would just get rid of PvP". Find me one PvP post where they wish that there was no PvE.

All the real PvPers want is some slight balancing, and a few more maps/game mods. All this other HAMSTER is mainly from PvE dominate players.
