TL;DR: Keep calm and give Neverwinter Online some time.

Let's break it down.

Now there are two scenarios to which this game can advance into:

1) A big up-and-coming patch or slow, gradual, and multiple small patches will solve more or less most of the "critical" problems, including introducing new paragon paths for existing classes and perhaps an introduction of a new class. Furthermore, many bugs, exploits, and balancing issues will for the most part be patched (let's face it, all games have exploits that are like little easter eggs waiting to be found and not all players will be satisfied with the big patch as their will always (an absolute omg!) be angry people who have all the time in the world to be angry at the/a game. Thus, the forums will be nicely lit up with new controversial topics and discussions of new glitches, exploits, and unbalanced classes to be found. Slowly these exploits will be patched and fixed and the game will continue being a pretty decent F2P MMORPG.

2) It becomes the next Diablo 3 and dies. The forums become more and more heated and the game loses a majority of its players. But honestly guys, HONESTLY, Diablo 3 was way worse than Neverwinter Online. Let's be honest. Diablo 3 was a complete and utter failure and I wasn't unhappy about it dying. I mean seriously sometimes I check the popular channels on twitch and some people are still playing Diablo 3 (If you are reading this and you are one of those players, please just smash your head against your monitor because you might as well do something productive with your time ;)) Scroll down to read **

Now obviously, the first scenario is more likely and it will probably happen. The people whining and raging about how they're going to quit the game if there is no rollback or that they simply hate the game because after 2 weeks of Neverwinter Online coming out, their lives have become ruined and doomed because of the time and money they have lost, will most likely come back to the game and be really happ- no. They will continue to play the game for some masochistic reason and continue to whine and rage on.

But for the intelligent population of Neverwinter, (no not you, that other guy) will understand that this game is actually pretty good and successful. Is there a lot of problems currently, yeah there is. I'll admit it, but as a player who has been slowly leveling up and just playing the game as it was intended...I have yet to experience any incredibly frustrating bugs or just things that the game needs to change.

On a personal account, I can say that there are two things that I encountered that have irked me a little but not enough to break my keyboard, mouse, monitor, somehow find a way to uninstall the game with those parts broken, and kill myself:

1) When you just dodge an attack and you quickly use your hp potion, it does not heal you, does not become used, and you have to wait for the cooldown that you would normally experience if you actually used the hp potion.

2) The on-demand patching that I didn't know that you could just turn off and wait for the game to download 2 GB+ of content that it didn't download initially. I actually think the on-demand patching is pretty convenient, just that the servers that we download from is way too slow.

Guys, girls, 13-year old teenagers, bisexuals, homosexuals, cows, moose, and fellow critters, let's all just calm down a bit. I have played more MMOG's than anyone I know and I don't stick to specific genres. I've played online golfing games, snowboarding games, moba games, competitive fps games, participated in competitive fps tournaments and won, spaceship games, games like Neverwinter Online, etc. The list of games that I have played goes on and on. Trust me, I know what a Free to Play game is like and Neverwinter Online is by far one of the most fun free to play games out there. Is it polished, absolutely not, why the hell are you even expecting the game to be polished.

The problem that I think most of you unsatisfied, asinine, and corpulent individuals are experiencing is that most of you probably come from more of the subscription-based, buy to play, and single player models of games. Shtap it. Neverwinter Online has proved that its content and gameplay rivals and if not is better than these subscription-based, buy to play, and single player models of games. It really is great. I love the gameplay and although the content sometimes is pretty dull, it has never felt like a huge grind fest and most MMO's that I've played have always given me that feeling (Haterz, you can relate, I'm sure).

Just sit tight and enjoy the game as it is, patches are coming, they have came (little ones), but big ones will come soon too. The game is just like a small child, and if you have children (I do not, but I can certainly imagine) you invest a lot of time and money into them and still they drop the ball sometimes and make mistakes. It takes a lot of patching to raise your children up to be good people in society, and more often than not, problems will arise that you just can't fix until the child itself feels like he/she needs to grow up (sorry for this conceit).

My 2 cents. Peace.

**

I didn't think there would be so many people calling me out on Diablo 3. Perhaps you misunderstand me, Diablo 3 gameplay was fun while it lasted. I may have been very critical and harsh on D3 but that is only because I really do think it failed on many accounts to the point where the game itself became so messed up that it could not return to its former launch state (which I desperately wanted it to!). When the game launched it was super fun and I thought it was going to be the next big thing and I dedicated countless hours to playing the game, but it failed to deliver in patches/updates/etc. Auction house still is completely broken and will continue to be broken. There were and still are many bugs and exploits such as duping and the game just became very stagnant and broken. PVP was never introduced. Once you beat inferno, the game was done. I'm sure it was very successful at the start of the launch in terms of fun and profit but when we compare then to now, I think you get the picture. I'm sorry if I offended anyone by saying that D3 was a "complete and utter failure" but it is currently in my mind (not yours, calm down, this is a biased opinion), dead.

***
I'm sure many other MMOG's will come out in the future that will blow away games such as this but currently most of you are on these forums because you either played or are still playing Neverwinter so let's all just talk about that. Wildstar, Blade & Soul, and TESO are a few examples.

Diablo III is a good game. It is AS good as NWO, BUT, you CANNOT compare the two. It had one of the best releases in video game history, problems or not. The cash numbers don't lie. It's the most successful ARPG in history, and overall it was one of the top 5 best video game releases in history. It will be here in 20 years, just as Diablo II is still here, 20 years later. You can go on and fantasize about it and just trying and hoping and wishing it to be bad, it's just not. Go enlighten yourself on the actual sales numbers and the actual daily activity. It gives millions of people pleasure every single day. Look at the metacritic score. Are you aware a man lost his life due to his DIII obsession? Don't think that's going to happen with NWO. (And yes I'm aware that that's a good thing :)

Also, need I say, apples and oranges?........ what does an ARP have to do with an mmorpg? You can't compare sales, especially as DIII has no sub fee. You cant compare gameplay. You can't compare success. All I see is a bunch of hate for something you don't understand. Which is hilarious because your whole post sort of lampoons people for passing judgement on something they don't understand. Are you aware of the irony in your position?

Also, who the eff cares, monitors, or judges a game's success by Twitch? Twitch might be around in 5 years but I sort of sincerely doubt it. Ahahahaha. Also, twitch USUALLY is for interesting pvp, or new pve content. DIII has been out almost a year and the content isnt new. Why would it be on twitch? It's the same old 4 acts. Saying DIII isnt active on twitch is like saying, people don't play Call of Duty 3 on Twitch, Call of Duty 3 must be bad! When were like, 4 games beyond that.

Neverwinter is a great and glorious game but you need to understand, weighing it by the success of other games, other BLIZZARD games, is really, really wrong.

You HURT Neverwinter when you do what you did. They are apples and oranges, night and day, 2 ships that pass in the night.

To close my point, I wish to make you a bet. I bet you that in 50 years? Diablo III will still be around and people will still be playing it. People will still be BUYING it. Neverwinter Online? Not so much. It'll still be around and some core DnD players will still play it but, even if the servers are still up? There will have been a sequal and people will have moved on by then. With MMORPGS? the crowds shift. ARPGS? The crowd does NOT shift. Comparing the two demographics betrays your ignorance. Your post smacks of someone who JUST hit the scene and really does have no clue. Sorry for the antagonistic response, im really not trying to hate. But it was an antagonistic post. You act like everybody who is concerned about the NWO release is an idiot. I call that projection, my friend. THeres a lot of FEAR in your post. Stop promoting fear and hatred and all the dark side **** you are spouting.

    PS:

Are you aware you straight up attacked the community?

I pause so it sinks in, hopefully, though somehow I think it won't. I find your presence here worthless, and you are literally undermining the community. You act like these people are idiots, and I despise your position. These are D&D and MMO nerds!!! They are the salt of the earth! Theyre probably the most intelligent people on the planet! Your hatred and projection does NOT help us, HATER, and you need a NWO game dev to step in and tell you to your face that YOU AREN'T HELPING. And that you're doing it wrong. I thought I might save them some time.

NEVERWINTER ONLINE FOREVER. DIABLO III FOREVER. COMPARE THEM NEVER. Winter.

"Productive"? I don't play computer games to be productive, I play them to have fun and kill some time. That includes Diablo 3. I'm plenty productive at work.

Wait.. Doesn't Diablo 3 have a player base larger than 95% of online games and bring in more cash than most fames ever will? I know it is no Diablo 2 or League of Legends, but most games wish they could "fail" like Diablo 3....

Also, who the eff cares, monitors, or judges a game's success by Twitch?

Seriously, while twitch has some interesting channels, it's all about the presenter in all cases. Do they put on a good show, are entertaining, and fun to watch someone else play a game? Then they do well. My favorite channels are ones like Supergreatfriend who does a stream once a week of odd games, usually along the weird older ones, and SuckyGamer who also plays games that have usually been out a while (he's been playing the Uncharted series lately, one after the other), but has such good comments and is entertaining to listen to, that i enjoy watching. Most others are when i am curious about a game, and want to see what it's like, i'll go and watch someone playing it. Most twitch streams are silent hosts, playing music, and just streaming random games they think will get them viewers. Towllie gets a ton of viewers, but almost always plays WoW, and i can't stand his personality.

I did find there were some live D&D groups on there, and that's odd to watch, i just want to say. Usually have bad sound, but you also see how much idle time goes on when you aren't actually playing. ;)

My problem with some forum users is that they don't realize that popular MMOs have undergone similar problems when they first launched. This is the first month of launch so the game won't run as well as a game that has been out for years. I don't consider this game to be in open beta. So devs will always miss various problems due to the size of their testing staff compared to the number of players. There are just some things that can't be found out until the game is live. The game might run beautifully with 5,000 people on a server, but 50,000 can cause problems to the hardware. Expecting the game to run as well as World of Warcraft or Lord of the Rings Online is just asking for disappointment.

Just for info, D3 is still at number 9 on the xfire charts, Neverwinter is at number 12 (as of 24 May 21:09 CST).

    My 2 cents. Peace.

Those of you that think this game is going to recover are easily duped. Now they've got everyone chomping at the bit about this "big patch". It will be 6 months before the exploits are washed out and the economy has any chance of recovering.

The people blowing all the money in the store will be bored and long gone... that is the problem with P2W... when you don't put in effort into getting something, once you have it, it becomes boring and not as exciting.
The long term D&D fans that would have stuck around, created foundry content, and spent a little money in the store had the prices been reasonable are already gone.
They won't attract very many new players now because word is out how bad this is... its all the gaming communities are talking about.

There business model and the manner in which things were implemented in this game, and released untested, are such a recipe for fail. I don't understand why companies keep doing it. Yes I know they get pressured from the publisher to push it out early because the burn rate gets so high prior to release... but when your revenue model is based on continuous store revenue and you drive everyone away in the fist month... pretty dumb.

Of course, maybe this was always supposed to be a quick crash grab for them.

Yup. TESO for sure... I'm playing GW2 and TSW right now instead of playing this.

Such a disappointment. I wish someone would come along and do a real game based on D&D. We've had two major failsauce releases based on D&D.. Its gonna get a bad name and then no one will touch it.. Its hard enough finding someone willing to use D&D lore with all the greed and headache of dealing with WotC.

At least Turbine came back with LOTRO which was pretty darn good until WB got into the picture... This is the third and last pile of horse dung from Cryptic/PWE that I'll ever spend money on. I now clearly see how they operate, where their concerns are, etc... I've learned my lesson.

Meh... I tend to stay away from NCSoft titles.. I haven't blacklisted them like EA and now Cryptic but not really impressed with the way the handle/implement some things..

I'll definitely give it a try after its been out 30 days or so and after I've checked a few forum sites and see the feedback.. That is my new strategy. No longer pre-ordering anything. I don't care how tempting the pre-order packs are, or beta access or what... sticking to my guns.. I'm not supporting the recent trends companies have been taking.

I disagree about Diablo 3 being a complete and utter failure. I enjoyed the heck out of it...If you avoided the cash shop and just played the game it was fun. My brother and various family members and I ran many many hours together had a blast. It was not WoW, was not meant to be WoW like....and again..it was fun.

I can definitely understand your point of view. I have the same reservations about most mmos. I personally have been following Wildstar for at least 4-5 years. I do think you may be underestimating Wildstar though. I don't mean "Its gonna be the best mmo ever!! WoW Killer!". I just think it will have huge hype prior to launch. I expect a large number of box sales (if they go P2P or B2P) off the bat. And like most MMOs, it will slow down a few months after launch. I do think it will have a good market though. Unlike a lot of recently launched MMOs,

I see its in beta now, do you know about when they are releasing it? Hopefully soon enough to hold me over until TESO. I thought I would be playing this until then. (*smacks* self for giving away, well selling, my beta key for TESO to a coworker thinking I'd be knee deep and immersed in this)

I think it will be too little too late. They need to fix bugs, balance classes, add classes, improve the foundry significantly, add a proper end game, fix pvp issues and add pvp content. All of that is certainly doable but it will take a very long time and gamers don't tend to wan't to wait. Calling it beta is a handy excuse when it comes to issues but it won't protect anyone from getting bored.

Each day that goes buy, as consumer horror stories unfold, I'm really starting to think this was just a massive cash grab for Cryptic. These people sticking around are gonna be led around by a giant carrot with hopes of this and hope of that but honestly.. 6 months from now these forums will have the same complaints.

Yah I wasn't like, badmouthing Twitch, I love twitch, but I dont go see if a game is good or not there, I go to youtube for that. I go to twitch to watch awesome gamers having fun. To ellaborate a bit further, I just feel Twitch is not an accurate way to see if a game is truly polular or not. Twitch is a specialty concept.
Nailing down how truly popular a game is is difficult, even the sales figures can be deceptive as you don't know if the buyer still spends time playing or not. MMO's are easier as you can track how many are online, but its still a relative business, a census at best. Judging a game off how many people are streaming is just sort of dumb imho , is all :)
