The Diablo 3 argument is completely invalid for Neverwinter for a whole variety of reasons.
To those who played Diablo 2 and enjoyed it, we were promissed a very different game than was released. I expected most of Diablo 2's mechanics honestly, with new classes to enjoy them (Customizable ability scores, sidequests, a long campaign), some endgame content and a reason to keep playing it after finishing it once.
But we got a single player game extremely dumbed in which we couldn't even chose the abilities we wanted to level, not even ability scores. Itemization felt weak and repetitive, no exclusive boss items (would had been bad for the AH, I bet), no secret plots, no... really, it felt completely unfinished and the ending, yet being an unexpected twist, left me with a bittersweet taste. I felt that I wasted the money I spent for that game. After clearing it once (which I did in 3 days playing in a friend's house like half an hour per day, I had my PC broke at the time), I didn't pick it up again.
Gosh, it only lasted 3 days. I bet most people beat it in a single afternoon.
Another huge letdown was the online component. There's no reason to make it online because it completely lacks playability to become multiplayer besides making the adds harder. You can beat it alone in Normal mode and you won't see anything new past it. And grinding until you're level 99 isn't adding longevity to the game.
I can't see how people are translating these things to Neverwinter. It's a MMORPG, not a single player campaign. It has limited content due to its nature of Open Beta. Its highly cooperative and requires grouping to make the endgame content. There is progresion besides reaching max level.
Characters: - Titania Silverblade, the Iron Rose of Myth Drannor (Lvl 60 GWF, Destroyer) - Gwyneth, the Cowardly Cat Burglar Drowling (Lvl 60 TR, Saboteur) - Lady Rowanne Firehair, Heartwarder of Sune (Lvl 33 DC) - Satella, Sensate (LvL 44 CW, Renegade, Non-Active)
Are you aware you straight up attacked the community?
The negativity in the community is what will kill this game. The game isn't the problem, it's the type of people that are trying to destroy it. The question is: Why are they trying to destroy it? Because it isn't WoW2. That's why.
Simple really... find me an online game with no bugs and/or exploits and/or balancing issue the 1st year it came out.
Flip it around. Find me another MMORPG that put important variables in the client.
I've been pretty relaxed about Cryptic's blunders generally, but that one is epic stupid.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
