@richardc67 all the costs for RP were scaled down by 10. And the cost cut in half for artifacts. While this does not make up for the artifact feeders, it does help. So your number should be about 2 million RP needed in total for your 4 artifacts (roughly 500k per arti)
RP are dropping significantly more on test. Your invocations give gemstones (that are account bound, not character bound). Leadership bags give both gemstones and refinement stones which are unbound. The identified equipment can be converted to RP instead of sold for cash. All these add up to significantly more RP.
@defiantone99 I just checked data points on test. Level 48 artifact needed 320 RP to get to level 49. Currently on live this costs 11,500 RP.
I also looked at levels 115 through 122 and each level needed 8800 RP for the next level. Currently on live this costs 165000 RP for each level.
These datapoints are in line with what the devs said...it would be cut by a factor of 10 and then cut in half. Which would make each arti roughly 500k to upgrade. There is some smoothing in the process. It looks like it costs much less on the lower end of refinement and a little more on the upper end.
Go to test and see for yourself. The misinformation is silly.

I see other posts after seem to state that 500K is it.
I just ran all three zones of sharandar dailies with 4 lesser hoard and wanders fortune:
it was alot slower because you have to run around and loot everything, we really do need a loot-all pet or mount buff.
With each artifact is 500k each, that's still a 5 month grind to get 4 artifacts to Mythic without being able to progress anything else such as your weapon set, artifact gear, etc.

it's more, but it's not significantly more to make up for the nerf.
it will still take 5+ months to grind out all 4 mythics without working on refining other gear as well.

I was checking my main on Preview and many of the enchants look ready to upgrade to 13, though some don't. Bondings, of course, don't. Is this the way it will work on Live? Ready to upgrade from 12 to 13?
@richardc67 made the incorrect assertion that it will cost 20 million RP to upgrade his 4 artifacts to mythical under the new system. That is incorrect. It will only cost 2 million RP under the new system.
Yes, 2 million RP in the new system is worth 20 million RP in the current system. The two do not mix.
@richardc67 seemed to think the new system would cost 20 million RP. As he was saying his RP points on gems was going down by a factor of 10 and he did not apply the same factor to his artifacts. So his calculation were completely false by a factor of 10.
@defiantone99 seems to be supporting the same incorrect information.
Using feeders has expenses of its own. If you do not have the feeders from drops, you have to buy the feeders. Then you have to use the marks and wards to upgrade them. This does give you a way to multiply your RP in the current system that will not be available in the new system. It is a convoluted system. Too many steps for most people. But it can be rewarding for those of us that use it. If you receive your RP from drops, it never makes mathematical sense to pay for feeders when the RP is free.
I paid for feeders because I did not want to wait for the free RP to drop. I had enough RP to upgrade my artifacts with feeders. And I had enough AD to pay the costs.
If you have an artifact weapon and you are upgrading to another artifact weapon, you should do that before this hits live. As you will lose significant amounts of RP in the new system.
There is another x2 RP event within a few weeks. It will likely be the last.
At the end of October is scheduled a x2 Enchants event, This will likely be the first x2 enchants/runes that includes gemstones under the new system. I would recommend you save your leadership bags for this event. As the leadership bags on test (thaum, res and arti) all drop gemstones which should benefit from this event.

as tested - it still takes over 5 months to do 4 mythics using the new system versus around 1 month or so of AD for the feeders + refining points for the 4 feeder stones which is around 30 days worth of WF + hoard enchantments, plus random rank 5 stone drops.
While it was less linear it was laid out very clearly that even a rank beginner could follow it and it really wasn't that hard to follow basic instructions on how to do it. really.
Please don't act as if the new way is in any way superior to what it is currently.
RP is never free btw. it cost player time. the difference to grind out 1 month versus 5 is considerable. to grind out that much, you have to go into zones where you can kill mobs as quickly as possible regardless if you are actually doing your campaigns on those zones, and you have to loot everything, because any green could be RP.
on top of that you have costs of upgrading your weapons/icons to new sets - you can't use your RP as you go and take just a 20% hit now.
For a new player, the new system is set up to be considerably more difficult to progress.
You seem to have it a bit distorted or this line in your post is confusing.
i get around 100K RP a day, that'll go down to 10K RP / day and that has to feed into 20 million RP worth to get artifacts to Mythic and this is supposed to be easier?
You are reducing the amount you get by the factor of 10 correctly but failing to reduce the 20 million you need by the same factor.
Either increase both, or neither but you cant just reduce what you get and expect the maths to work.....

keep up with the times, that was already talked about and corrected.
@richardc67 You went from 5.5 years to upgrade your artifacts in your initial post to 5 months in your recent post. That is progress!!
If it only takes one month to get what is needed for your artifacts to be mythical under the current system, then you should be fine. As you already have 3 months under your belt and another few weeks to be ready for the last x2 RP event.
I agree that the feeder system is simple for me to understand. But when I inspect other players and see their artifacts, it is obvious that less than 10% of them use artifact feeders. I am not average person or player. Complex is simple for me. It seems to be easy for you as well. But that is not the norm. And you should not assume everyone is that way. Because...they are not.
The new system's simplicity makes it superior for many people.
The reduced bag space needed makes it superior for many players.
The benefits from your invocation bags are account bound rather than character bound makes it superior. (these RP points are not specific to items, they can be used for anything that needs to be upgraded...also superior to current system)
The thaum/res/art bags from leadership drop unbound RP points able to be spent on anything needing upgrading...and these bags should benefit from x2 events is GREATLY superior.
That you can feed gemstones into your guild coffer is superior.
Initially you said that if your current daily RP gains converted to the new system, it would be 10k RP per day. When you tested the new system on the test server, you were getting 13k RP per day. That is a 30% gain. That is superior!

There's often a display bug with refinement when changing statuses. If you put in something and hit the button, it'll show the true fullness.

I guess you missed the the fact that I had three characters. I have one already done, frantically scrambling to get another.. and you're assuming no situational artifacts for a tank and cleric.. but...
this isn't all about me (or you for that matter) it's about the game and feedback. for any new player coming into this new system they are inherently disadvantaged over players that were in here prior. New players aren't going to have leadership maxed either. Feed gemstones into guild? because we are just rolling around in RP we have nothing else to put it into (really what part of this convo did you not follow).
Not to mention half the superior changes you mentioned could be implemented without changing the core mechanics of refining. they could simply simplify the refining gems remove the account / character binding on stones and gems and life would be far more simple. that alone would save so much bagspace and complexity.
any new system being implemented shouldn't take 5x as long (or longer) and also have other nerfs such as upgrading weapons and icons along the way as this system does to new players. we went from a 20% hit on upgrading a weapon to a 70% (or 60% penalty as one post suggested).
the original post suggests that in all ways this system will be better for players - it's not. what's so hard for you to get that?
all this just to save .. bag space? I don't know about you .. but I'd rather buy the bags then deal with this.
Right now its 10mil RP for each artifact, with the changes is 5mil (those 2mil in the new system are the same as 20mil now, its not rocket science) take it as is and plz tell us how much time will it take for a new player to get 20mil RP atm? Ages, saying stuff like "well, you have enough time to make your Mythic artifacts" its literally useless to every player that wants to ever start playing Neverwinter.
It won't affect me, in fact I couldn't care less about Mythic artifacts (having 6 characters with at least 4 of them) but MY particular situation doesn't help anyone but myself, and getting Mythic artifacts on the new RP system remains a nerf in comparison to the current system.
Yeah, the new system has its benefits, but refining artifacts is not one of them, can't you see that?
If you are new to something, you are always at a disadvantage to people who are established. It is that way with everything. While I understand your point, it is not significant. If you want inequality, there has been an ongoing inequality that impacts a vast majority of players. The issue is that if you participate are in a heroic encounter, your rewards are based on how the game perceives your contribution to defeating the HE. Your DPS is by far the most important aspect of your contribution. New players with lower GS or people who have buff/debuff loadouts never get the best rewards. For buff/debuff characters, this is a huge disadvantage. The game does not tell you about this inequality. A casual gamer would probably never notice the subtle difference. My main is a DC, so if I want to get better rewards, I load DPS encounter powers and tank that dragon in the siege.
A very small part of the user base uses the artifact feeder system. Overall, this is an insignificant change to the player base.
IMHO, the only significant change is that you cannot feed your artifact equipment into the same type of artifact equipment and keep 80% of your invested RP. To help compensate for this, more RP drops and all your RP is available to put into your artifact equipment, rather than just a portion of your RP. So you can focus your RP to the upgrades that impact your character most. This is a huge benefit to the new system.
The real question is why do you play? The content of this game can scale with your equipment very easily. You just need to know what content to focus on at the time. If you focus on the proper content, you can get upgrades easily. You should be enjoying the drive, as you never reach a final destination in an MMO, as it keeps growing. And like everything in life, growing can be painful. But that is what leads to innovation and feeds creativity. Figuring out how to navigate a changing landscape is what the best people do well.
Is there any estimate to the date as when this stuff will be on live? I'm curious as there is a x2rp on the calendar in roughly 3 weeks and it would be amazing to be able to get whatever artifacts up to mythic before it is all changed. From what I read it seems like it would be really hard after the new system is implemented. Hope we get that one last chance!

I am expecting the new system to roll out after the x2 RP event at the end of September, but before the x2 enchant event at the end of October. I believe next week is the Wondrous Bazaar 15% off sale. So if you have VIP rank 12, you get a total of 40% off, making GMoPs 15k and SMoPs 60k AD each.
The only way the current system is better than the new system for artifacts is if you use artifact feeders. Most players do not use artifact feeders. So the new system will be better for most people in regards to artifacts.
If you have artifact equipment that you are upgrading, then you are much less efficient with the new system. You will lose significant amounts of RP when you upgrade from one item to another item. If your current artifact equipment does not have much RP invested in it, then you will not lose much RP and the change won't affect you much.
If you have lower level enchants (Rank 7 and lower) you should wait for the new system to upgrade enchants. It will be cheaper overall.
For weapon and armor enchants, if you have rank 10 or higher, you should rank them to rank 12 in the current system. The new system is much more expensive to rank level 10 to level 12. However, the current system is significantly more expensive ranking weapon/armor enchants up to rank 10. So if you have rank 7 weapon/armor enchants, you should wait for the new system. New players will find it less expensive overall to get rank 12 armor/weapon enchants in the new system.
Leadership bags in the new system drop gemstones. On average, each bag (artifact, resonance, thaumaturg) will drop about 100 RP. If you open these bags in the x2 enchant/runestone/gemstone events, you will double your RP.
In addition, the developers mentioned a new event that will give RP. They gave us no specifics, as they did not want to take away from the surprise of the event. Just said it will allow us to gain more RP.
For every good thing Mod12b is giving us, there's at least one really, REALLY bad thing, they say they're aiming it to be easier for new players and that's just wrong, because Artifacts are one of the first things you should be maxing as a new player.
Idk who do you play with or where did you get your info, but the vast majority of players use feeders to upgrade their artifacts, its all over the internet as the best method to do it, if you didn't do it, that was your choice, but that doesn't mean everyone else doesn't do it either. Idk if you're actually trying to convince us or to convince yourself at this point.
I was glad to see the refinement window changes, where now you can see how many refinement points you have, how many were added, and your critical success rate.
Currently, the window takes about one second to process each stack of RP. This is not really needed. Just give me the totals and I will be happy. The stack by stack action is very slow and will increase the time to process RP significantly. I do not see any real need for it.
Also, can you make it so you can increase your artifact equipment level to the upgrade point, rather than the tedious level by level it is currently?
@yubit#2497 I inspect lots of people. And I ask people. Most people do not use artifact feeders. They might benefit from the artifact feeder system when they change artifacts, but they put no thought into it. It is not an intentional use of the system. And while there is much information online about artifact feeders, there is also much misinformation. Many people think it applies to artifact equipment as well as artifacts. And the more enlightened people who advocate artifact feeders also understand that it can be more expensive and not worthwhile. Many people are impatient and want something now. They are not willing to wait for x2 RP events. They are not willing to read about and understand how to properly use artifact feeders. If you and your friends all use artifact feeders, great! But that does not mean it is the norm across the player population.

You should be able to click finish and it will simply finish without the gem by gem animations.
Because getting 6 artifacts for 10k AD as it is atm on Xbox is WAY more expensive than getting 10mil RP, of course. I don't know how nobody on PC use feeders, most on console do, its not only my friends, or my guild, or even the alliance, actually most ppl use the feeder system, and if they don't have a clue, ppl ask around.
Like I said before, the new system has its benefits, but refining artifacts is not one of them. Most players don't have a bunch of r12 Quartermasters, new and most of the mid level players don't even have a Wanderers fortune mount and/or a bunch of characters with maxed out Leadership, many of them aren't facing the "first world problems" of having too much refinement, you're pretty much saying "Well, sux to be new in this game" and that's exactly my point, Devs need to do even better and actually aim for new players, we're having less and less ppl across all platforms because of half-thought changes like this one.

Thank you for the tip! I used this on Test and it does complete the refining and properly adds the total to the top of the window. However, it does not update the "This Session" totals (Total Session and Critical numbers) These two numbers are a snapshot of when you clicked the "Finish" button. Certainly not a gamebreaker, but it can be confusing to people who may wonder if the RP was properly totaled at the top. And I can confirm, it is properly totaled.
