It is a sad day indeed. As someone else who's suffering from COPD, I can only wish other's realize the seriousness of COPD and find a way to quit smoking now! I too was diagnosed before I quit smoking. I am now in the process of kicking this horrible addiction and habit, but it is too late for me too. Don't let it be too late for you!
Rest well, Leonard Nimoy. You are missed.
“I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD ... Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you’re diagnosed with lung damage it’s too late. Grandpa says learn my lesson. Quit now. LLAP,” Nimoy tweeted in separate posts last year.

My emotional reaction is both surprising and understandable. I am not a vulcan, after all. Nimoy is a role model in many areas - but the one thing I find myself thinking is that the crew is slowly getting back together. First Deforest, then Jimmy, Majel, and now Leonard.
May his spirit forever live long and prosper. I remember not only his work on Star Trek, but much of his voice work in his career. He was the voice of Galvatron in the Transformers animated movie, as well as the voice of Sentinel Prime (and even uttering the "needs of the many" line that he made famous in Trek) in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. He was also the voice of Master Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (in which he got to play alongside another famous sci-fi actor, Mark Hamill).
Those are just the voice parts I know of. I'm sure there are others. He will be missed.

The accomplishments of Leonard Nimoy, who died Friday at 83, are impossible to list in full. He's obviously best known as Star Trek's Spock, but he also had a successful film directing career (including Three Men and a Baby, the top-grossing film of 1987, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, among the best entries of the original film series), hosted the documentary series In Search Of…, and had one the best cameos The Simpsons ever did.
But my defining memory of Nimoy will always be "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins":
"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life-forms and new civilizations; to boldly go where no one has gone before." Rest in Peace, Mr Nemoy.
If you want to see Leonard Nimoy as a "regular" actor (not as Spock) - Netflix (if you subscribe to it) still has the entire series of the original Mission: Impossible television series where Nimoy joined the cast in season three IIRC (Might be season four, though).
It was during this time when he made his infamous pleas of "I am not Spock" and so on. I've been watching these old shows (My father used to watch them when I was a little kid) - and it's a fascinating (and very real, unlike the movies today) retro experience. And as a "regular" actor, Nimoy was pretty darned good.

He was sampled for music by Information Society, and has other musical works.
His hair-do was always neat.
He was and wasn't Spock, and sometimes even in the same show!
Nimoy backwards is Yomin.... which means nothing but is fun to say out loud.
