For note - I do my dailies, craft, farm in harder areas, do dungeons, do PvP, etc rather than pay RL money for everything. If it's possible on my one character I don't mind taking the time to do it.
"Just get a second character". No thanks. I don't feel the need to. I shouldn't be restricted for it. I don't need more RP expansion into why I have a second character. I don't want to miss out more on what I do with my one main character just to get a second.
There are going to be those whom disagree with me, or those whom don't see why it's such a big deal. This is accepted. Everyone has different opinions. Majority of what I hear though (from all feedback here, in game, on preview discussions, those who went to see the Beta, etc) is that it's a bad idea that should have been changed by now before module 3 launch.
There is still time to change it.
I just hadn't participated in the argument "over there" hoping it'd change before it "got here". That make sense?

So you basically went and hoped other people would do it for you? Anyways, its highly (and I mean highly) unlikely that they will change it now when module 3 goes live in less than a week. They might do 1 or 2 more patches before the weekend and/or a few days before, but that's it. This discussion already happened in preview and nothing changed.

Uhm, no. That's not what I basically did. If you don't get my point, then you don't. Miscommunication happens.
There's nothing constructive in me replying further to posts addressed to me so I am leaving this as my own last reply post.
Send me a private message if you'd like to discuss this further. Thanks.

I completely understand what the topic author means despite having 4 characters level 60 and 3 of them have ended Sharandar and Dread Ring, there is no reason for one person to play Neverwinter over a character there is no incentive only extremely tiresome task which does not encourage anyone to do anything.
Leveling a character in Neverwinter is really good but having to repeat Sharandar (Worst Campaign) and Dread Ring is not something that encourages any normal person.
PWE wants to motivate the players to have more than one character are doing the wrong thing.

You talk as if you know the work ethic of the people who only play one character. Hopefully, your words are not endorsed by Cryptic. That wouldn't be good policy for keeping paying players.
By the way, I agree with the OP and I don't feel everything should be handed to me. I just wish there was another path for soloers to obtain such an artifact. Let the path be difficult....I don't care. I simply have no interest in playing another character (other than CW) nor do I have the time.

I feel this may be the only statement in which you and I agree. Perhaps you are right.

What? Unfair? You've got to be kidding me.
All you have to do is to lvl up another toon to 60, gear it up with blue items to get 10k gs, and spend few days to get 3 easy boons from Dread Ring. And you'll get FREE artifact. You're not forced to play that toon anymore. What's unfair?
All you have to do is to lvl up another toon to 60, gear it up with blue items to get 10k gs, and spend few days to get 3 easy boons from Dread Ring. And you'll get FREE artifact. You're not forced to play that toon anymore. What's unfair?
This^ , I don't get why people are getting upset about this , no denying that people can choose to play as they want but that is the point ,if you don't want to make other characters you can't get the class artifacts , same as if you don't want to pvp then the pvp artifact is going to remain out of reach .
The way some people here talk you would think that leveling up to 60 is some unbelievable feat that takes weeks and weeks , you can level up any class to 60 with maybe 2 or 3 hours play per day for maybe 7 days then add maybe 20 minutes a day for another 14 days to get the 3 dread ring boons and you are good to go , 2 free class artifacts plus the added bonus of the AD your new alt can earn your main through prayer and leadership.
I think it's extremely juvenile how many people are whining about this.
If you don't play PvP, is it unfair that you don't get artifacts from that? If you don't do elite dungeons, is it unfair that you don't get artifacts from that? If you don't do the artifact introduction quest, is it unfair that you don't get an artifact from that? Of course not. Everyone can make an alt for free and level it, so everyone can get one of these new artifacts.
And just because you have 2 (or more) characters, doesn't mean you have to play them all. I have a bunch of level 60s, do you think I spend all day playing all of them or something? Or course not! I spend one weekend playing one of them, another weekend playing another, etc. And in between, I just craft and evoke for XP to level them up slowly. Sure it might take some time, but so does grinding elite dungeons for artifacts, or pretty much everything else in the game.
And even if you absolutely, without exceptions, only want to play one character ever, there still is no reason to cry about this. After all, there are plenty of other options to get artifacts in PvE and PvP that never require you to make an alt. So why not just use one of those options if you want an artifact so badly? You already have a wealth of options and you're just bellyaching about one new option being added simply because you don't want to use it.
Somehow it seems people are expecting to get free artifacts without doing anything. That seems much more unfair to me.
"In order to accept this quest players must have two level 60 characters who have been to Caer-Konig."
and
"However, only the most experienced and battle-hardened adventurers will be able to contest for and profit from Black Ice. That is why players must have a gear score of at least 10,000 and unlocked a Rank 3 boon from Sharandar or Dread Ring Campaigns to be able to enter Caer-Konig."
Original poster is right, why two chars? Asking for a grand total of six boons would have made more sense. A one char with six boons is more likely to be a most experienced and battle-hardened adventurer.
You actually need 3 dread and 3 sharandar boons on each.
We also already have a free artifact quest at level 30. This is an additional one for those who have put in the work for more than 1 toon. You are free to make another one for yourself but artifacts are meant to take work to get. Every other artifact takes effort to get. The one for 24k glory probably being the next easiest. This is a reward for those who have taken the effort that are experienced on more than 1 toon. If you don't like it, there are other choices.
Think of it not as a penalty for not doing something but as an incentive for doing it.
Rewarding players for playing content the devs slogged away to create? Played it once? Good for you. It's a free game. Played it twice? Here, have free artifacts. The game is still free, and hey, they already gave you 2 free character slots in the first place.
In an MMO, it isn't unfair, but good sense to hold player interest by giving them incentives to stick around, albeit being a grind for free stuff.

Yeah i agree with you ,the module 3 is i think a new moneymaking system for cryptic.
Well, yeah. No kidding. They do like to eat, you know. That shouldn't bother you in the least. Every video game is a new moneymaking system for the company that creates it. What should matter to you is whether or not you get fun and enjoyment out of the new content in return for any money spent.
For those complaining - this is a bonus. This artifact, like the green Ioun Stone, is a bit of a perk for those that have met the requirements. That's it. You don't need the artifact to complete content, you don't need it to access anything. For people who have levelled a second character (which is almost certainly a very high % of players) it's a nice bit of recognition from Cryptic.
And it's not like you can't level a second character to get in on this reward, either. There is, to my knowledge, no time limit on the quest - so if you need a break from your main, the quest will still be waiting for you later.
Yeah i agree with you ,the module 3 is i think a new moneymaking system for cryptic..you have to buy new gear, new artifacts ..you have to fight a boss in a dungeon that requires you to have 20k gear score to defeat it..and all thesee nice spoken stories...
They should be making money. Some things they make too much from, but in mod 3 although some things dont have a price yet, they seem reasonable. Of course new gear/artifacts should be coming, in MMOs its a constantly evolving game to carry on getting the best of the best. However you are also mistaken. There's no new dungeon. There's a new epic skirmish, but unless change things (I hope they do). It's actually really easy. There's also the open world heroic encounters. Some of which are harder but with anyone coming, it will be easy enough with enough players. You will take a lot of black ice damage without the black ice gear on the harder ones though.
Over all module 3 is a filler with no long term playability (imo). But it is something new and a nice distraction for ~1.5 months. The black ice gear has the most stats when empowered but other sets may still be preferable like the hv set for cw is sitll awesome, and high prophet for DCs. The new set does allow for more survivability in icewind though and has 2 addition slots for new craftable enchantments.
You can't buy more free tools for the new profession. You have to buy them, however considering that there's no real bonus to having epic tools, I don't see them costing a fortune on the AH at least. There's also the account wide banks which hopefully won't cost too much, but will be desired a lot especially by me. So yes, it's a money maker, they're a business and need money to carry on producing content and have a lifestyle. But there is nothing necessary in mod 3 and really you don't even miss out if you skip it out entirely imo. I kind of wish there was a little more too it and some long term farming potential. But it is interesting for the short term, even if getting gloves/main hand can be frustrating (maybe less so since not many people helped on preview due to lower numbers).
You're wrong. It is written in a dedicated post by a Cryptic staff that you need three boons from Sharandar or Dread ring.
Maybe you're right. Maybe I was wrong. Only goes to show that it's actually easier to qualify then . It was my initial understanding on preview, but I guess I interpreted it wrong, unless it was edited.
1. The Guardian Fighter Artifact is actually the best all-rounder...
2. It will take you considerably longer to get the GF to level 60, and the boons may be unobtainable.... solo.
(2. btw I'm just kidding
All players will still be tied to 3 artifacts max, and they aren't ALL overpowered, some have limited use, and others are like veterans rewards: this time you get +500 gs.
Funnily, the 14.5-15k gap is either made upgrading a lot of rank 7's or buying another artifact and refining it to epic....
Also, VT and MC unlocks both cost a hell of a lot more in account assets than unlocking this artifact.
Three boons in Dread Ring - probably make you ~ 10-15k RoughAD in Thayan Zealot epix. Cost - ~25k AD.
Yeah i agree with you ,the module 3 is i think a new moneymaking system for cryptic..you have to buy new gear, new artifacts ..you have to fight a boss in a dungeon that requires you to have 20k gear score to defeat it..and all thesee nice spoken stories...
LOL! who told you that you need 20k gearscore to beat the new epic skirmish? There is literally nothing in the new content that you 'need to buy' but even if there was would that be a bad thing? or are you one of the deliusionals that really believe games like this should be 100% completely free?
Well that being said, I think most 10k GS characters are going to need to team up in most of the IWD content....
...oh joy. I've got a bunch of lv60's that I've been poking around Dread Ring with (to the point that most of them have a few pieces of purple lair armor w/blue in the other slots). All but one are 8-9k. My best character, TR, is 11.1k. Hadn't realized that the new content would be out of my reach.
Somehow, I missed that note entirely. Hmm.
All you have to do is to lvl up another toon to 60, gear it up with blue items to get 10k gs,
I must be doing something terribly wrong with my characters, because every time I hit 60 with one, I hit the auction house for lv60 blue gear. And they just barely cleared 8k on blue gear, if I recall correctly. Oh, and that's with a cheap purple weapon, too.
Yeah i agree with you ,the module 3 is i think a new moneymaking system for cryptic..you have to buy new gear, new artifacts ..you have to fight a boss in a dungeon that requires you to have 20k gear score to defeat it..and all thesee nice spoken stories...
You don't have to buy new gear. (you can't)
You don't have to buy new artifacts. (80% of them are free)
You don't need 20k GS, you just need to have the new FREE black ice gear equipped and those are more than enough.
LOL! who told you that you need 20k gearscore to beat the new epic skirmish? There is literally nothing in the new content that you 'need to buy' but even if there was would that be a bad thing? or are you one of the deliusionals that really believe games like this should be 100% completely free?
I think that was hyperbole (though still inaccurate) but not sure what he expected from new content apart from that.
I spent a good chunk of the Double XP weekend getting a GWF to Lvl 60 primarily so I can unlock his artifact with it's beefy stat boosts for my other characters.
Imho, many people seem to have misunderstood class artifacts' meaning of existence, and have regarded class artifacts as bonus rewards. That's wrong.
Class artifacts should be regarded as capstone rewards for players who play their classes persistently and level them to level 60. They meaningfully represent their classes' spirits. Every one who is level 60 should be qualified for one.
Class artifacts should never be given as bonus rewards only for some players.

I just can't uderstand your point... Class artifacts ARE for everyone, and they ARE FREE. You just have to do one little simple QUEST to get it (in this case quest is going to be lvling another toon to 60 and getting a few boons on it). It seems what you're trying to say is "I'm lvl 60 already and I'm too lazy to get this little quest done. This is unfair. Period."
I, too, think it is fine on the 2 lvl 60 character requirement, which I am currently leveling my 2nd toon. I just hope that it doesn't required uber gears, boons etc for my 2nd toon to complete the prerequisite quests for getting the artifact.

Maybe you're right. Maybe I was wrong. Only goes to show that it's actually easier to qualify then . It was my initial understanding on preview, but I guess I interpreted it wrong, unless it was edited.
Cost - ~25k AD.
this is not correct. you need three boons on either dread ring or sharandar. you don't need them on both.
**edit: oof. ninja'd.
LOL! who told you that you need 20k gearscore to beat the new epic skirmish? There is literally nothing in the new content that you 'need to buy' but even if there was would that be a bad thing? or are you one of the deliusionals that really believe games like this should be 100% completely free?
Somehow, I missed that note entirely. Hmm.
I must be doing something terribly wrong with my characters, because every time I hit 60 with one, I hit the auction house for lv60 blue gear. And they just barely cleared 8k on blue gear, if I recall correctly. Oh, and that's with a cheap purple weapon, too.
You don't have to buy new gear. (you can't)
You don't have to buy new artifacts. (80% of them are free)
You don't need 20k GS, you just need to have the new FREE black ice gear equipped and those are more than enough.
I think that was hyperbole (though still inaccurate) but not sure what he expected from new content apart from that.

Good.
I spent a good chunk of the Double XP weekend getting a GWF to Lvl 60 primarily so I can unlock his artifact with it's beefy stat boosts for my other characters.
Period."
having done it on the preview shard i can confirm that it is, in fact, a quest. be prepared.
