Seriously. Worst possible time to do a maintenance. Please fire whoever made that decision and hire someone who actually has some business sense? (Only if making money by having players play IS an actual goal for your compay.....)
I doubt someone just said, "Ah hell, might as well shut it down on Saturday night, no biggie." If they are making this decision, it is probably because they felt the situation was escalating and the decision to wait any longer must have meant something even worse would happen. Face it, peak times are a big Zen purchase time, so shutting down the servers means a loss of income for them.

They said this isn't normal maintenance hours, it's just needed tonight. Course what sucks is my time to play this weekend has been later night, and with server crash last night and maintenance tonight, can't get a lot done this week online*sigh* maybe next weekend.
How hard is it to come up with time that isnt US/EU primetime. Lets say we want to please center part (average) of EU (GMT+1) and america, it was 4am in EU (gmt+1) when the maintenance started, so no problem there. Now, if the maintenance would have started like 8-10am EU GMT+1, the time would have been in america something like 1-3am? Wouldnt something like that be best for everyone? jesus

Im not one to make many comments that often. but i have to lay something out to people i think is worthy of hearing.
1st.- the whole Soft Launch vs Open Beta vs Your taking cash shop money.
--i only have one thing to say here = when a site like mmorpg or massevly releases an article about this very topic and the general idea is that "THIS IS A NEW MARKETING TACTIC" call it an argument of business model, but it comes down to money and marketing.
---i wonder when the OL' "NO MORE CHARACTER WIPES" "HERES WAYS TO SPEND MONEY" STOPPED meaning a game has been released? i just think about how these companies slowly convinced people of this stuff, drop this kinda shtuff on me in 2003 and i would have never played an MMO again, ever.
2. Maintenance. - Theres some reason for this they will never tell the forum community outright. some emergency more stemmed from the personal side of some people working in the team. if my assumption is correct then a dev reading this might laugh, if not, its just theorycrafting anyway.
---most arguments here are somewhat wild and off topic, EU guys... umm no one is thinking "hey lets give EU a break during the first big weekend of open beta, But just because the team isnt thinking that, doesnt mean you guys cant! right?..eh?"
----Obviously this company knew the **** would fly with this maintenance time, they have all made mmos before, and most of us players havent made mmos before.
great game overall imho. PvP is extremely fun because the combat mechanics and balancing remain solid in a pvp setting. ive joined a pvp guild on mindflayer, and rerolled a cleric from a guardian- playstyle choice of mine mostly, but if the guardian doesnt do any real dmg or CC, in pvp, then only being viable for the amount of time that your block lasts doesnt seem right to me. so i re-rolled and now i love the cleric healer class.
ive played every **** mmo from everywhere, something feels and plays right about this game, now only looking for CU and maybe the new TUG on kickstarter for my "future" fixes. Best FTP title i have ever installed - so far.
Prime time...Saturday...Games been up for like 4 days and has had maintenance for 4-6 hours ( or issues) daily...Well decided I wont spend a dime on this...I have no problem supporting games I like...but this is beyond stupid...No reason what so ever this maint shouldnt of been scheduled for a non-prime slot such as 2-6 AM? or even 4-8AM?...
You people complaining are idiots. This is beta. Beta has problems. That's why it's beta lol. Beta = Beta Testing. Putting code under extreme loads for a testing phase to make sure it can take the beating. Besides that. You are playing for free. So quit whining.
If you think this is an actual "beta", you are sadly uneducated. This is a launch and alot of people are not playing free. Another moron. With the lack of patch data to download, it's clearly an exploit fix. If they had stated this, alot of people would relax.
*sighs* everyone is so focused on it being a maintenance that you are not understanding why they pulled it. They said from the traffic they are seeing getting higher and higher... They had to pull the servers down to do emergency patching to handle the traffic and load, and make the server more stable with higher traffic and loads.
I would rather see them fixing a problem like this before it becomes an issue. so that later systems don't crash because of overload.
First sensible post i've seen on this thread...
Rather have PLANNNED maintenance then an UNPLANNED CRASH.
If you can't handle the minor inconveniences for such an awesome game, go play something else and quit moaning.

It's only primetime over there!
It's after 4am here in the UK. Perfect time for it to go down as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who's moaning about it, there is this thing called OUTSIDE.
"This is not our normal maintenance time, but unfortunately the maintenance needs to be performed ASAP to ensure that the servers remain stable with the current traffic we are seeing.
Had you selfish crackfiends read the OP, you would have clearly understood that they weren't intending to do this now. Obviously something has come up, and they need to fix it now. Playing a mmo doesn't mean your virtual world revovles around you. Relax. Have a cupcake.
I know it's been said to death, but I want to say it again to make sure the owners of this game understand that how we feel is a consensus among the customers.

They didn't plan 8 pm to be the downtime. It was supposed to be a different time. Real life happens.

So much crying on one thread just because you can't play a game that's still in beta... Priceless. If you want regular scheduled maintenance don't bother playing until it's officially released (according to Cryptic). Otherwise save your crying. If they didn't bring it down for maintenance everyone would be up in arms when it crashed.
Agreed... this is clearly an "exploit" fix.. there's essentially no other reason to bring the servers down at this time... In the end we'll simply never know, so let's just hope it comes back up less than the 4 hours they intend for it to be down.
8:10PM Saturday night, I finally get some time to play some Neverwinter. Can't connect. Check forums. Down for maintenance for my entire play time. I can't tell you how disappointing this is. I have been trying to defend you guys for months, but this decision is tough to swallow. I assume there is something more insidious than some proactive patching going on here. I'm sure that 8-midnight is the absolute highest server load in America. To take it down at this time is an absolute failure to plan and execute. If I made a customer service error of this magnitude at my company, I'd likely be looking for a new job....
complain if it crashes....complain if they try to catch it before it crashes, i think all of you should email PW your availability, and ask if they could pretty please work around your schedule.

"Open Beta" is just a cover in case they really hosed up the launch. They have finished with the Betas and this is just their way of trying to ease into a launch. Once you start taking real money FOR REAL, no more beta this or testing that. It's REAL when you start taking the cash. They are patching some exploit, no other reason to bring it down in prime time and HAMSTER off the junkies getting their fixes on a Saturday night.
Nothing entitled about it. You stupified yourself in your reply. It's primetime in their primary market. For people that work in the US, having the game come down on a Saturday night is a pretty big deal. We will deal with it. It won't stop the EU, including you, folks from crying during the week but when your collective develops, publishes, and maintains an MMO that a large portion of the US plays, then you can cry foul. It hasn't happened, and it will likely never happen. Lack of grey matter as usual.
Entitled and spoiled are attitudes generally projected by those that can't, not those that do. I.E. you....
This is my whole point. American devs, worldwide audience. Did you know: Movies, television and music made in America, is not just sold in America?
Don't we feel clever now?
