lol you guys dont get it.. only reason they releasing this is simple : Money. To force people who have AD to burn on new gear etc.. while forcing other to buy Zen with rl cash to grab the new items.
This is and never was ment to be a D&D game.. just a Money grab machine

I suspect these new mechanics are the test bed for the Magic game. 11 new job opportunities for it. You don't put new people on a game, with no experience. You have the veterans work with them to get them up to speed.
Neverwinter/Champions/Star Trek Online all have a skeleton crew.

Let's be fair. The game is free. You understand this right? No one has to buy anything with real money ever. That being said, they have every right to generate revenue.
IMO they have reached a point where many players have stopped spending because BiS gear and other things have been stagnant for a while. The ONLY way this game stays alive is if people buy Zen. There is no getting around this.
So, with the new stuff they will be able to generate a good amount of money, which is their right and it keeps the servers running. It will be up to us and new users to determine if the way they have gone about it is worth it to us to keep playing or move on to greener pastures.
> You're making builds even more cookie cutter than they already are.
This. There will still be bis builds for each class and everyone is going to be using them. #Samesies
As long as they keep adding classes and give players more than one way to engage the world, cookie-cutter classes are just fine. Too many people find out how to min/max anyway and variety is dead.
I am wondering what happens to the LS boon in the SH. We spent lots of time and energy leveling that structure to rank 10 for LS. SO what replaces it? Or does it just go away after all that hard work. I agree we need a LOT more information and not just on class changes, etc. What happens to the R13 or 14 enchant someone has for recovery/lifesteal? Do they have to start over? Do they get a replacement? I see people already leaving over this and yes, maybe they should give it a chance, but.....can you blame them for not wanting to? I fear my active players in my guild will not want to continue and ooops, ya just killed your own game. Changes are not always bad, but people get frustrated when they have done the grind to get the BEST weapon and enchant it/restore it just to be told...oh well, that stuff is now outdated and here is NEW stuff to grind for. So now we have to change a lot more than just our gear...our whole class. I hope it isn't as bad as some fear.
Lets be honest here guys - there is no MMO where your gear/stuff remains intact for too long. I am BIS, so I would be hurt the most with new MOD, but I knew its coming and its inevitable. We can even say that we are lucky as much of our valuables would still be worth something - enchantments included. Until test serwer its gona be really hard to tell witch one of those are more usefull then the others as we do not know any details on how this new mechanics work. No1 will take away your campaigns/insignias/mounts either - so sure its gona hurt, but not as much as we think. You will easly forget your old armor when you gona find a new one - better as drop from a mob. Sure its green or blue - but better and for free with no effort so... lets chillout here.
If some1 leave a game at this point its...well premature, to put it mildly. In my guild no1 left and no1 is complaining. Not yet. Sure its hot topic, tons of ideas, rumors, assumptions etc. but while discussions are hot the actions are stoic. Instead of rage quiting folks are gathering resources, not spending any AD any more. But we are a smart bunch you know:D And I am certain that most, if not all of us would acomodate to incoming changes pretty well. But thats a question of attitude. So I advice some stoicism here - you can leave any moment, so in fact you can give a new MOD a try as well.
> You're making builds even more cookie cutter than they already are.
This. There will still be bis builds for each class and everyone is going to be using them. #Samesies
I guess You must be new to the game sir. At this moment there are just the few usefull builds for any class. With time same thing is going to happen after MOD 16. Reason is that all classes etc do not offer infinite options. All are limited so with time and testing there always comes out what build is the most effective or in most cases the most popular. Thats how it goes in every game
I know I'm only speculating here, and why use common sense when outrage seems so easy, but...
Maybe... just maybe...
Some of the concerns people have over Lifesteal, Recovery, Boons, Gear with now defunct stats and on and on...
Maybe...
Some of these points were considered during the overhaul and addressed?
For instance. I doubt that Tensers Floating Disc now offers NO mount bonus. I imagine that squishies like Rogues might have sexy new Encounter Powers that account for the "specific" instances of Lifesteal that will remain. I doubt that monsters, particularly bosses, will do as much instant impact (One shot kill) damage. More likely doing more heavy duty DoT type damage in group content allowing Healers to do their job, but less DoT in solo play meaning Potion management and damage mitigation becoming something that players need to consider when playing about without a Healer. (In other words they might have to "THINK" about...)
I think the whole "Arrrgghhh you don't even play your own game" argument doesn't hold water in this instance. Most of the playtesting was done in secret by veterans of the game. Not interns at Cryptic.
For years people have screamed. "ASK THE PLAYERS WHO KNOW THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!"
So they did.
I kind of know some of the people involved in the test, and without gaining any more info than "Sorry, can't give you anything" I believe that stuff like "OMG They Killed LIFESTEAL! You HAMSTER!!" was taken into consideration during the overhaul. Because unless these guys were lobotomised prior to signing the NDA, its the sort of stuff they would realise needs careful balance. They aren't dumb.
So before everyone goes all Lord of the Flies, lets wait and see the details. Lets test it on Preview. Let's see if any Preview issues emerge and watch to see if those things are fixed. BEFORE losing our collective HAMSTER over things we literally know nothing about.
(And again... if it turns out it's rubbish... I will say so,, and I will complain, an I will make sarcastic comments about the people who got it wrong. But I, for one, don't want to look like a complete prick by ranting about stuff based on the very little information we currently have, if it does turn out to be as good as it has the potential to be.)

The name of the game is simplification so I suspect that the sort of specialisation you are interested in will get harder to achieve.
Simplification my hamster! The new professions system is total rubbish. I just got to the point that I could make my own Black Ice enchants, and now I can't because they totally changed it, and I can't even begin to figure out how to finish the stupid "A fresh start" quest.
Simplification does not necessarily mean that something gets easier for you. It gets easier for them. The underlying combat mechanics are being simplified along with character stats etc. This makes the game easier to maintain and to change. My comment was in response to someone who wanted to use the current richer stats choices to produce specialised characterisation. My point is that the simplification of the character stats (such as removal of the feat tree ) will make such diversity of builds harder to achieve. It does not mean that character creation necessarily gets easier for a player, simple things at the back end can be made very complicated at the front end by UI designers.
The uselessness of the new professions tutorial was mentioned on preview many times. That it is still useless just shows how deluded people are if they expect to be able to influence whatever hits preview. What hits preview is what gets launched on live.
Fresh Start is not impossible. If you are used to point and click adventures you should be fine. Click on anything clickable till you get the right answer. Just don't expect the dialogue to always point you in the right direction or for required actions to be always highlighted.
Holy freak'n s^%$ batman, I just started reading through the dev blog posts!
The removal of the Lifesteal and Recovery ratings are the two most significant. Lifesteal was problematic in that it invalidated most sources of healing and created a situation where a player’s health bar was typically in one of two states: full, or dead. For this reason Lifesteal was removed as a rating and there are only a couple of specific sources of lifesteal in the game going forward.
This one alone is a MASSIVE change! I mean this will completely null countless builds from various classes. Take the OP, providing extra recover buffs was a good reason to have one in the party. There there is classes like the GWF doing solo content and not having lifesteal while getting mobbed in places like Chult!
I mean wow! Its not that I disagree with the changes but the past few mods, I have little faith in the devs for getting even minor changes right in the game and these are complete overhauls!
Why do I also get the feeling that Cryptic wants to offload a bunch of Leader/Healer pets on to players. Where folks used to run with their Tiger or Archon comp, now they'll have to break out the Angel, Sunite cleric or (gawd forbid) that annoying apprentice healer when they solo. Without lifesteal or it only available through specific sources, lots of folks are gonna freak out when this thing hits live, methinks. And while I principally run support and heals on my main, this is NOT going to be a welcome change.
After spending Millions upgrading Companions this would be DEVIOUS ! I have 3 mains each one has 7 or more Legendary Companion , all 3 are support OP GF DC and most my Companions are for SOLOing Dailys , which are DPS . IDK ... Looks like a new way for ZEN Cash grab , like Legendary Professions Items were ripped from Proffession after people spent MILLIONS to acquire Tools . Hopefully this isn't another attempt to squeeze blood from a turnip .
> i feel like u all dont even play yr own game, yr not balancing u are nullifing and nerfing every class in the game and destroying quite a few, recovery doesnt make it where encounter and dailys are too good or used too much, do u know why ppl build for recovery and how its used? cause the ppl who build for it have spent months grinding evrything out to perfection and it makes it where u can spam yr daily (cause u have all r14's) and help yr team the acdc and tacgf spam their moves but do u see them at the top of dps charts? no theyre helping their team, the dps which dont have as much recovery are at the top cause they built for the stats that they need, which isnt only recovery, as a tacgf u need recovery to spam cs and fray to help yr team, as a acdc u need it to share power and spam yr daily and reduce yr team mates cooldowns, yr hardly doing any damage with huge recovery, and yr taking away life steal cause the reason of being hp is either full or not, obviously, its always been this way cause of the way u made the game, if u have no defense but 2 mil hp and go into a hard dung yr still gonna get downed very very quick, cause u need defense, which the op and dc give, and all the enemies in the game do so much damage its either yr alive or dead, so the dc and op protect the team while the temp heals any damage that slips through the buffs, and having crit chance is stupid why? every end game play worked hard for their stuff or spent their hard earned money and now their half as effective, ppl min mmo's like seing perfection in their builds and stats, instead of destroying everyone's class why not just raise the armor pen cap more or make a new stat that the new area will drop gear that has, or anything else this isnt a balance, make the game fun, do u think if u played a game for years then all yr work is nullified is fun? its not, and yr changing all the feats cause u think thats theres not enough flexabillity and more reasons but even so it doesnt matter how u change them there will Awlays be 1 set of best feats for everyclass there cant be multiple best feats its impossible there will always be one best way cause thats just how it is, so however much u remove or add it there will still only be 1 or 2 set in stone builds that everyone uses cause if they dont they will only be hurting them selves and everyone they play with, and the feats the way there are now are fine, but either way dont remove a core stat that many many ppl have built their toon around and dont half a stat and force ppl to not have what they want and force away the crit that everyone built for, im getting off subject but just dont destroy everyones work please
Not off subject at all. You said it perfectly. They're taking away from the hard work, time, and money people have already put into their game to get to the point they are. As I mentioned in a previous post, I will be walking away from this game. I do not see the purpose in sticking around, when they are taking what I worked for away from me. The developers don't care though bc they already have my money in their pockets.
yea all these "problems" (theyre not) are things that we have our own solutions for, its common knowledge that u get 1 shot eaiser and either yr at full hp or dead so thats why u bring a acdc and op but if they nerf everything it wont be like that, and this update would be fine if they just added all the stuff with out changing and fixing stuff that doesnt need to be fixed, if it isnt broken then dont fix it, its like lvl 80? yay but wait oh no feats are different, just leave things as they are and add all this new stuff and it will be a good mod
Perfectly said ... That is the best perspective yet ... They should hire you , why take away , just add ... Thats would make the GAME INCREDABLY versatile and give everyone a multitude of Character Options ... THAT WOULD BRING people Rushing to the Game ... !
Like someone above mentioned, they have used actual veteran players to test this new mod. So while a lot of you seem to want to rant and rave about the changes coming and are expecting a total disaster, I am not.
The state of the game needs the change. Power creep is ridiculous, being part of a 20 min Castle Ravenloft is fun the first few times. After that, it's boring. I did a 2 man FBI the other day, one SW and me on my girlfriends CW MOF that I was testing. This should not be possible.
It sounds like they want to slow down the use of Encounter Powers but that is part of what makes the game fun. At low levels when recovery is low I spent more time just smashing the At-Will keys and that is just not as fun as timing the cycle of encounter powers to maximize the effect. Seriously if encounter powers go back to 12-15s timers I am done.
It sounds like they want to slow down the use of Encounter Powers but that is part of what makes the game fun.
This isn't what the are trying to do at all. It may well happen that encounters are slowed, cooldowns increased, who knows what. But that isn't the point of what they are trying to do.
What they are doing is a far reaching, major upgrade to the game mechanics that will hopefully bring the game back to being a fun and playable game, not just for a few people but for a majority.

Fun is buffing a majority of the garbage encounters that could be fun, but they're too weak.
Capping crit at 50% is by far and away the absolute worst idea I have ever heard of. Basically putting everyone on the same level by taking away build options. This is absolutely ludicrous. I gave neverwinter a second chance, but am officially walking away from the game. They shouldn't try to fix something that isn't broken.
Think about how that worked for just a second. Every attack that you did was a critical hit, every single one. The enemy essentially was that unskilled that they didn't block one hit, or deflect it off so it was only a glancing blow. Nope - every single attack was a perfect, critical strike. Does that sound like it should be the case? You may as well have populated every dungeon with a target dummy because that's all you were fighting in terms of you dealing damage. It's perfectly right that my aim might be a bit off against a moving target and my attack is not a critical strike, in a mob I am surrounded by 5 enemies and every swing of my sword or every fireball that I cast performs a critical strike against them all ? A change like this brings a bit more reality to the situation (as much as you can put reality into a fantasy game). Try embracing the new challenge, see where it leads. If you decide you don't like it and want something easier then sure, play another game.
One last thing, when it comes to buying stuff from the zen store or where ever, you had the use of those items (power points, mounts, companions, etc) when you bought them and you decided you needed them in order to play, they were not something that was required. some of the items were able to be obtained with regular playing, just not as quickly, why should a company compensate you for something that you chose to buy so you didn't have to wait/work for it? Exactly, you don't take a car that you bought back to the dealership and demand a refund when they release a new model; why should you expect to get your money back from buying gear ?

This is pretty HAMSTER dumb to say. It's not like buying a car. It would be different if all the old enchants and things were being changed to legacy and left alone (which would obviously be bad for the game balance but that's not my point here). The dealership doesn't come to your house and actively take HAMSTER out of your vehicle or remove features.
If on the other hand mounts still had lifesteal, and the old darks still had lifesteal then you could say it was like buying a car since they aren't actively taking your stuff and maybe replacing it with vaguely useful stats.
I am not in a panic, I just want to know the details spelled out in one place, not in various bits and pieces from several sources. I don't care how long it is, but details will help.

Agreed, I spent a lot of time correcting misinformation in our alliance chat because some people didn't realise their was more than one blog announcing changes. Partial information causes major conflicts on the world stage, we don't need that in neverwinter.

we don't know how useful the stats will be. from what i understand we will need the new stats as much as the current stats. can't look at it from how the game is now. how the game is now is being nuked. basically it's nw 3.0 nothing is going to be like it is now. its possible that some things that suck now are going to be much better after the re roll. it's possible that some things that are hot now will remain hot. it's possible that they'll be steaming piles of pooh.. but maybe I am trusting my intuition when I shouldn't be.. but I'm not worried about stats from mounts and enchants because I do think we're going to need it all. and between the three types of toon we will have I think all the stats will be relevant to someone so trade isn't going to be impossible.
