The lack of rewards for doing what I like the most - dungeons - made me temporarily move to another game, until mod 7. I still do some stuff in Neverwinter, like professions, 1-2 dungeons/week (because of the still awesome combat system, however my prot seal set is long time done so there is no reward I really get), participating in double refinement points event (I just put all rp I had into my artifacts and sold some marks I didnt mean to use), prot jubilee event and thats all. So, yeah, "Playing, but not a lot of fun", Im more like preparing for next mod, rather than enjoying current state of the game
Ceased to play ~2 months ago, not even visiting forums anymore. I used to drop this game in the past, but now I have completely no reasons to return. I logged in a week ago and spent a few millions AD to buy keys and I didn't even have a feeling of gambling like before, I just opened those boxes and closed the game. Even the forums are no longer entertaining.

when I would have accumulate sufficiently frustration, then I would go and try another one, probably in a few weeks.
If you stopped playing the game, would you continue to come to the forums to complain???? Nope, you'd make a couple of rage-quit posts, which would get moved/deleted/moderated, then head off to another game.
I think for many people, myself included, the hope remains that things will turn around, the dev team will pull it together, and at least duct-tape something together that remotely resembles what this game used to be like. And then there are others that keep an eye on the game, more than likely, to confirm the direction that this game was headed, and the outcome that was / is inevitable, when they stopped playing the game.
The great thing about online games today is that nobody is committed to their choice to either stay or leave. Leaving the game doesn't mean that you can never come back. Traditionally, though, IF you leave and WHEN you do come back, the game is once again very fresh with new content, players, and things to do. Ironically enough, for THIS game, there is actually now less to do than there was pre-mod6. Before Mod6 there were dungeons to be run, quests to be had, and generally more living breathing players than there were bots. Now, the only thing there is to do is run the same dungeon over and over and over again. Not a very refreshing experience if you ask me.

Right now I'm dumping my encounters into powries, even a daily, to no avail. They still keep draining my AP over and over.
Why do minions have twice the HP that mod 5 elites had...? The enjoy ability is near gone now. I had fun quickly pouncing on minion types and sending them flying to their deaths. Like the old HR sniping them from afar, is gone as well.
Not only did gearing up turn into a grind fest, now you grind to kill things. It should have been +25% more damage/-50% HP for solo content. Fast paced is fun, it's more immersive/realistic.
I'm having a grand ole time, but then again I am a D&D fanatic... lol
That being said, there is room for improvement on Bugs/Content/Guild interaction, and I hope to see the steps that have been recently implemented to continue onward!
I just hang on because it's D&D, but things just aren't as fun as they used to be. Keeping characters viable is closer to a job than a fun way to spend time.
Of course the people who are running around with 4K toons are having the time of your lives.
I'm 2.6k, blue leatherworking armour, rank 7 and 8's with greater "chants". 10k power, 68k health - and for me, the combat is one of the best parts of this game. Just ran Biggrin's solo for this week - it was great fun, had a blast. After the last patch it's now (for me) the best fun it has ever been.
The main reason I am still playing is because of the money (about $350, I think) and time (over 2 years) I have invested in this game. . .
Not sure how much longer this will last for me, especially since I have little interest in guild strongholds. I would have MUCH preferred player/account/character-specific housing, but oh well . . .

Playing and mostly fun, but could be better
I see the game as being in a transitional state. There is some new leadership in the development team, and some good things are starting to happen.
Some of the dungeons have been pulled for rework, Strongholds is in the works as is an Underdark expansion. From what I have seen, it looks like thought is going into what caused the game to go from an exciting new MMO being very meh. It takes time to make the sort of changes that the game needs, but I see things mostly going in a positive direction.
I'm an Alpha tester for Strongholds. Not allowed to publish anything about it, but I will say I really like what they are doing there. It was fun, like in the early days of Neverwinter and I'm very much looking forward to its release.
I'm having a grand ole time, but then again I am a D&D fanatic... lol
The only problem is, as I have said before, this is not a D&D game, I don't care what the label says. 1d4 additional hitpoint s per level does not equal 35,000 at lvl 60..... Except for very large values of 2...
All I can say is this: it takes forever to get anything done now. I'm trying to level my first character to max, and when the XP event ended, I was at 63. Played for several hours tonight, but I only got like four bubbles into the level before I just couldn't take it anymore. Enemies are too tanky, my damage is too low, and the XP 'rewards' are laughable.
I feel like an idiot for financially supporting this game. Why did I waste my money? WHY?!

Playing, but not a lot of fun
Back when I was playing D&D on paper like 17~18 years ago, it was prestige to get a +1 or +2 sword, but those + swords in this game is just...meh...
I feel this game is pretty well made, its really the bugs/exploits/balance that is destoyering this game, looking back mod2~3 when balance was not scaled that badly, when dungeon was actually fun and challenging (and not these one hit HAMSTER...) back when we first explored Castle Never with 11~12k GS, we could feel the chill, the challenge and excitment, we fight hard and we wipe hard, but now..... i can't really say I feel this game is doing any better...
It has turned into nothing but grind for this, grind for that, just to have it nurfed, or changed so that you have to start all over reequiping your toon. To me this is not fun.

I myself have spend almost all my free time playing this game since beta. I'm not yet BIS. I was almost there in mod 5. I was saving every AD to upgrade all my rank 9 enchants to rank 10 BIS simultaneously. Mod 6 came and that's just what I did.
Now my artifacts are all mythic. My artifact equipment is all Legendary and I'm all rank 10's.
All my savings are gone. I've sold off almost all my equity I built up over 2 years of farming the Auction House and for what?
There's nothing I can buy for my character to make this fun. I've spent everything I have trying to make this game easier and more fun. Now I'm broke and weaker than I was in Mod 5.
I stay in the hopes things will change. I will not wait indefinitely. I want to play. I want to be rewarded for playing and have fun EARNING those rewards.
I say the following DIRECTLY TO MANAGEMENT:
Think of us as employees who you pay with virtual items.
Keep paying us with virtual items that cost you nothing (Dungeon rewards & Dragon Hoard Enchantment drops) and we'll keep playing (working) for you.
Sooner or later we'll get hungry and buy something from the cafeteria (Zen Store).
The fun is gone.
The rewards (pay) are gone.
Only the grind (work) remains.
Smile the cafeteria is open.

What's with people who put their Ilvl in their Signatures? They probably have a big gold chain and saggy pants too.
I *was* having fun with the "single player" portion of the game until,
1) The lag got worse over time
2) Newer areas don't even aesthetically compare to places like Blacklake, Neverdeath, Beggar's Nest, etc
3) Tweaking my character became a chore and astral diamond sink
They should take cues from Phantasy Star Online 2, which is still extremely popular regardless of how aged the game looks. The game also plays similar but doesn't shove the cash shop in your face at every turn.

Playing, but not a lot of fun
Here is the problem with all artifact weapons, armour ect.. you just figure it will ditched in a mod or 2.. so max you get out of it is probably 6-8 months, if it takes you 6 months to grind things.. blam.. they are revamped, gone ect.
The grind level is just too extensive, for how quickly they revamp this game. Every 3-4 months, a new mod and a new grind comes out, which quickly makes everything you had worthless.
Thats not the bad part, other games do that, the bad part, is they make the current grind for items, so ridiculous and long and boring and extensive and ect , ect ,ect that by the time you earn them, they are worthless.. so might as well not even bother for the most part.
When was the last time you played a mmo, with the caveat is basically" not worth the bother"
there is so little incentive for daily play that is what we are down to.
Its not that I DONT enjoy parts of the game.. I do, or I wouldve just quit, but the amount of enjoyable content seems to get smaller and smaller and smaller.

A large number of my friends seem to have given up on the game, and thats impacted my fun. I find I log on to do a few dailies here and there, maybe if I see some friends on I'll have a decent length PVP / chatting session with them. then I check prices, see if I can do some buying/selling to increase wealth, and log out. It's less fun than it was when I really got heavily invested in playing around mod 2-3
well MOD 2 was probably the highlight of their entire game. Since its frequently voted as favorite mod over and over.
Mod 3 in comparison to mod 4 and 6 is usually considered a 3 or 4th favorite (behind beta and mod 1) It was kind of STUPID the amount of gate they put on bracers, but other then that the rest of it was fine.. some people thought it was too hard, but frankly I brought 6 toons through (dc, cw, gwf, hr, tr and sw) and none of them were all that hampered.
Really? Because I distinctly remember mod 2 and it was actually one of the more "explosive" mods forum-wise. Whine whine whine "OMG you nerfed my AP gain devs you $%(#$%*@!!!!" whine whine whine "the new RP system sucks I quit #$%$#$@!!!!" whine whine whine.
Don't even get me started on mod 3, people spent practically the entire mod complaining about GWFs/TRs and Bilethorn.
I was there the whole time.
I still enjoy the game. For the most part I'm a semi-casual player who goes hardcore every other weekend or so/holidays/events. I occasionally take a 1-2 months break from playing the game, because that's the point of playing a "free" game. I do spend money on the game every one in a while but mostly as a show of support. I simply see no point in doing so just to advance my character gear-wise, I'm already making good progress getting their on my own.
Neverwinter has always been as much an action game as a find-new-ways-to-figure-out-how-to-improve-your-character-without-putting-in-too-much-effort/cash-kind of game, which is why I find all the "the game is P2P" comments sad. Either because they're coming from new players who simply haven't figured out that you need to ]manage your time and money more efficiently/check the forums or ask genuine veterans for artifact refining shortcuts and other AD-conserving methods/start by buying or saving up for more character slots - and the people who claim to "love" the game are (for some reason) completely ignoring them and letting them whine and demoralize other new players, or because they're coming from old players who simply stopped caring/learning new stuff about the game because of their own issues.
The former is an especially vicious cycle, as you can see from the posts here.
I agree that the game is in a transitional phase atm, and I also believe the direction is positive. Along with my own "I' and "me" observations, I've been observing genuine new/casuals players and it seems the devs are gradually forcing players to start grouping/working with others for maximum efficiency, I just wish they went about it in a more outwardly elegant and rewarding manner. It's working, but it's a rough system. Solo is still very possible, you just have to be smarter about it and admit when you need help/better stuff. Ironically it's the old, geared players who seem to be adjusting very badly to this change, as you can see from the "33% damage nerf" thread. For the new/casual players the solution was painfully simple - bring more bodies/DPS. It's incredibly funny watching older players whine about it on zone while the new players just spam "LFG" and then breeze through content.
Judging from the PvE extremes they're setting up baseline difficulties (high and low) for future dungeons, which is why I don't spend my time whining about how PvE is too hard/easy. It's meant to be that way, and there are already more qualified players out there giving them good feedback.
What does frustrate me is that they are taking too long to add the old dungeons back in.
Finally it seems like they're trying to find ways to make Neverwinter more homey/increase player retention rate with the new mods, which is an interesting, possibly good step. Luckily most of this transitional stuff is happening with other interesting stuff also coming out, so sending out feedback I can focus on other things besides Neverwinter. If you've been playing as long as I have you'll notice people come/go/come back all the time.

You there. New to the game? Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you think getting to end-game is impossible for a casual player like yourself, or maybe you just need to be around a community that helps each other stay sane and competitive with the latest news, current trends, random chitchat and most of all LEGIT (that is, we try to keep things fair) gameplay. If you don't mind being around quirky people and the rare occasional drama (one of our prominent TR members is apparently a mafia godfather) join nw_legit_community at http://www.nwlegitcommunity.shivtr.com/forum_threads/2330542.
