My first experience was BASH, in September 2009. I remember going into a full match and being astounded by how strong all the players were. Everyone was invincible to my damage, and they could melt right through me. There were so many broken powers. But the main thing is that instead of getting discouraged, I felt…
We're on the same page. I usually don't have luci on ignore (except temporarily when she is spamming tells at me), and I would even forgive her if she was ready to start having two-way conversations. I also talked to mcluving and redburst and unmuted them in copvp. I have not seen aphrodite in several months but if he has…
There is a lot of truth to this. A bare minimum for fun PvP is that everyone should feel that they are having an effect. Being nearly invincible definitely takes fun away from players with sub-optimal damage (i.e. not picking their attacks from the top 5). But the other side of this is that it's no fun to be so squishy and…
In theory I like the idea of restrictions, but in practice there are problems. 1) Communicating. A lot of people don't read the forums, and barely read their in-game chat channels, so getting the message out about rules and restrictions is difficult. 2) "You mean I can't use X, but you can use Y! QQ" - some players will be…
You aren't really criticizing our builds, you are criticizing us. You don't like the veterans, you wish we would go away. There is nothing about my build that I could change that would satisfy you.
That's what we did on Saturday, and it worked out pretty well, even in spite of the kick bug. I think we should split into different kinds of events. The problem with last night is that we had a mixture of objectives: I thought we should have an event that encourages new players while still being a fun chance for veterans…
Along with thanking everyone who helped make the event fun, I want to apologize to others who may have felt I was being too bossy or too critical. Imp, I'm sorry I kept going on about your ice grenades after the event was over. I was tired by that point, and I should have dropped it sooner. You are right: you are a squishy…
I'm glad you had some fun, and I appreciate your feedback about toning down our builds even further. I used an ego form character with telepathy attacks, and a pure melee character with ~20 strength (and no other kb res), so this was far from the "best thing i had to steamroll to victory." The other spectres who played…
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate constructive feedback. But let's reread what I said in the first post: Feel free to start your own thread arguing for no one to queue for bash, for everyone to have team pvp 24/7, etc. This thread is just about one small first step. If that has inspired you to propose something bigger in…
In Jan 2011 there was a patch that made it so ego storm would hold players 3 times in a row, with no breaks or immunity. It was a dev mistake, and it has since been corrected.
Obviously there is no perfect time when everyone is free to pvp. Think of this scheduled event as a jump start: if people enjoy themselves, they will build more characters for team pvp, and queue for it more often, unscheduled and throughout the week. That is the goal, but we have to start somewhere.
hi Martoon, I remember that you used to pvp with us years ago. CC has changed a lot from the old days, and now it is more balanced, so I don't think anyone will mind. Nobody complains about ego storm or mental storm recently, that I've seen.
Hehe, TK assault and every other power in the game are totally fine. There is just something unique about PBR, because of the bright intense flashing. I know it is a lot to ask for someone not to use a power, so I'm hugely appreciative of anyone whose willing to be considerate on this. Thanks for the info. My…
If you're serious about this idea, there is an even more radical option: revive pvp at tier 2 and tier 3. Tier 2 used to be the main place I PvPed when the game launched, before I could compete up in tier 4. It has it's own set of frustrations, it's own version of fotm, but it always had more diversity than tier 4. It may…
Great post, Darkon. You've done a lot to help organize and inject some life into pvp these past few years with your tournaments, so it's great to have you on board. In addition to what Darkon said, you have my personal assurance that everything will be rainbows and cupcakes from here on out.
I hear you, and I'm glad that you and AE would consider getting into the spirit for something like this. I have not seen Aphro in a long time, and he might have me on ignore anyway, but I will get the message to the other two if I can. Like I said, it's not like I really have the authority to tell people what to do, so it…
I wasn't there when they were muted, and in any case a year has passed since then and I don't think they deserve to be muted permanently. I have attempted to unmute @mcluving and @redburst , and will continue to do so until it works. If any of the others (there are only 5 or so people) want to send me a civilized tell or…
There are workarounds, and people can eventually be unmuted. If necessary we can make the channel invite-only, but I don't anticipate that happening. Over 900 players past and present have joined the channel, and there have only been a handful of people who caused problems.
Well, I did say: I do have some good reasons for being hopeful. (1) We have done a casual team pvp night before, years ago, and it worked well. (2) Most of the guys who prefer running ultra competitive play to win builds tend to prefer BASH anyway, whereas the very nature of team pvp makes more kinds of builds viable. (3)…
Rewards would be great, although instead of rewarding "winning" - which would just lead to brutally farming the weakest players to quickly get points - I suggest the rewards should mostly be based on time played. For example, have bash award 30G per hour of time played, with a 5% / 10% / 15% bonus for 3rd / 2nd / 1st place.
I agree with vixy, if utc/sh could pop with as little as 4 people (2 vs 2) like the old days then those match types would be a lot more popular. Bash has always been the most cutthroat pvp match type, whereas utc and sh allow for a greater variety of builds and player skill levels. The other big change is that legion gear…
Other things that caused the decline of Stronghold and UTC are the increased requirements for popping the queue (it takes at least 8 players, it used to pop with as few as 4 players), the immune turrets in SH, and legion gear killing alt variety. No, it's not like that. Check out the stickied guide to Stronghold pvp in…
The bash rule fails every time someone proposes it, because a lot of us use BASH as an extended dueling arena. BASH has many advantages over duels and team duels. Treating BASH as a competitive game is actually a terrible way to play: it just means competing to farm the weakest players as much as possible, and also using…
Check the wiki pages for each one. If they say "this unlock is no longer obtainable since On Alert", then you can probably sell them for about 1000G. I sold 5 or 6 such unlocks for that price 2-3 months ago. A couple of those went to Bacon / Scallawag, he said to send him a mail if I had any more to sell, so you might try…
Thanks for giving this feature some attention! Also, is it currently possible to connect to our SG chat channels through pidgin? At one point, about 6 months ago, I was able to use "live!groupname" , using an SG called "groupname" as an example. But then it stopped working, as far as I know (I just checked the other day).…
I'm sorry, I was just being silly. I've been watching this game decompose for so long that I can't take anything here seriously anymore. No amount of shortcomings, or depths of failure, can surprise me. My expectations are at absolute zero.
Devices killed PvP by killing alts. Nobody can afford to gear more than 1 or 2 characters, so we lost that little bit of variety. We used to have 20 players and 50-100 characters, now it's more like 10 players and 10-15 characters.
It awards a gold bet, similar to both bash and stronghold. And yeah, I'm in the same boat as Jewel. I think I need like 50 more wins on my 2nd character. :(
