By linking your Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic accounts, you will enjoy a more streamlined process in accessing your information and logging into your favorite games. Doing so will also allow the friends you play with to find you more easily in other titles.
Lies, I don't play any PWE games, this doesn't make it convenient for me. I'm being inconvenienced for absolutely no reason.
Account linking will soon be non-optional. If you have a Cryptic account and link now, you can claim a special item in Star Trek Online. Also, the sooner you link, the better chance you have of getting your preferred account name and display name.
Wait, what? A special item in Star Trek Online? Never mind the fact that I have two lifetime STO accounts, this sounds IMMENSELY stupid. Link on CO, get a special item in STO. Um... yay? I don't even play that game, it sucks... especially the dilithium store...
I'm not even going to read the rest of it, this whole thing is just beyond retarded and serves no purpose other than branding.
My display name is going to change tomorrow from mistformsquirrel (which is who I am pretty much everywhere online - if you see that name somewhere, there's a 99.9% chance it's me.) to a name I used for Perfect World years ago when I played it for 15 minutes.
It'd be one thing if it were just the account name - something not facing other users, but this is essentially someone taking away my name and giving me a new one, and it's especially galling that it's happening in part because I was dumb enough to get curious about one of their other products. That they apparently *can't* fix it tells me volumes about Perfect World's consideration for it's customers.
There's a ton of other stuff that bugs me though - the biggest one being that I feel like CO is getting the short end of the stick here; and also that both CO and STO seem to have decided to utterly ignore the kind of content I find appealing. Ultimately - I was bored, took a several month long break, came back, liked some of what I saw but had hoped for more, then started to get bored again, then this display name nonsense comes up and it's like "Oh screw it. I'm done."
I'll happily come back if things change though. < . .>
---
I'll also drop a note about DCUO:
Imo, DCUO is a lot of fun, right up until you cap your first character. All the content from level 1-30 (which is the entire level-span of the game) is story-based, and while there's no decisions to be made, the action combat is pretty cool at least imo...
The problem is when you hit 30, which you can do inside a couple days. You go from a neat story-driven action-heavy game to an obnoxious grindfest where you either have to team up for (imo mostly boring) dungeons, or you have to rerun the stuff you've already done as daily quests in order to advance your gear.
The other issue with DCUO is the costume creator is significantly weaker than either CO or COH's - it's workable enough, but you have to unlock the vast majority of costume pieces on a per-character basis, and they mostly come from drops.
Basically - I recommend giving it a shot, have fun with it for a few days; then you'll probably want to walk away unless you find you enjoy their end game system (which is possible, I'm not everyone.)

Oh, I'm with you on my feelings about all these changes, for the exact same reasons as yours. They keep trying to tell us how great this is gonna be for US, but it's really all about how great it's going to be for PWE. There hasn't yet been one single advantage to me as I play no PWE games and have no intention of ever doing so.
But there is likely a way to fix your naming problem. First off, try logging into the PWE website using your Cryptic username and password (converting your name to follow PWE naming conventions). If you can log in this means your names were reserved. If you can't log in, then create a new PWE account and see if mistformsquirrel is available as a handle. If it is, create the account.
Then open a support ticket and ask them to unlink your PWE account from your Cryptic account. Once this is done you can then relink to the new PWE account with the correct handle.
I'm with you guys both as well. I've had Lohr for 4+ years on CO and probably used the name for close to 10 years and now I am getting trumped by some **** who has had an account since August of 2011 and barely uses their account.
My display name is going to change tomorrow from mistformsquirrel (which is who I am pretty much everywhere online - if you see that name somewhere, there's a 99.9% chance it's me.) to a name I used for Perfect World years ago when I played it for 15 minutes.

Pretty much same deal on my end, except I still haven't gone through the trouble of merging my account yet. But when the time comes... exact same deal for the exact same reasons and exact same (approx.) amount of play time. And all because I was looking around for "appearance customization MMOs" in google and the ironically named Perfect World came up.
Its so sad that DCUO will never measure up to CO's standards of appearance customization or that I feel that leveling after a certain poin in that game is meaningless (since you only get a certain number of slots for the powers you can use and after a while you'll only get more powers you'll likely never use) or I would drop CO for it in an instant.

I'm pursuing this strategy as we speak. < . .> I'm not hopeful, but it's worth a shot at least.
Like what happend to my friend his name was reserved for him but to be safe he still changed his password and such but i hope the ones haveing issues can get the issues they have fixed.
And I've been toying with the idea of going back to CoX (where I've been CaptainFabulous in the forums for years and years). I popped in about 2 months ago and it was pretty interesting what they're doing over there. And there's always DCUO, which I've never really explored. So there are other superhero options.
I'm not saying I'll never play CO, especially if PWE actually decides to do something with it instead of slowly let it die. But I'm certainly not giving them any more money, nor participating in the new forums.
I wish I enjoyed CoX's gameplay nearly as much as I enjoyed its setting and storylines. I probably wouldn't have wandered back here after I checked it out with Going Rogue. But it's just too slow for me.
And DCUO on the other hand is a fighting game, except spastic and rythmless. And character customization sucks.
dose any one know do you get a conformation email when you set up a new account and if you do what address it comes from?
I got an email from Champions Online with the subject "Your PWE/Cryptic accounts have been successfully linked!". I assume it goes to the address on the PWE account, but since both my PWE and Cryptic accounts use the same email I can't say for sure.

I think he was asking the email address the confirmation mail was sent from.. it should have a domain of @email.perfectworld.com, I believe.
I linked accounts about an hour ago. So far, everything seems fine, have all my characters, able to get into the game and the Forums. Only change was that I couldn't keep "@coffeemug" because it was already used at PWE (although it still says "Welcome, coffeemug" when I come here. I guess that might change Monday). Haven't tried to buy any ZEN; one potential headache at a time...
Please read and reply to these specific enquiries which I must insist are answered before I accept said PWE account agreement pertaining to Cryptic-Studio's online game 'Champions-Online' and it's official forums.
I would appreciate it if you would reply to them on this thread and not to either my forum / in-game mail or my registered email address which on disclosure of answers would have me technically violating;
I am requesting this because I believe others would also like clarification. I am also not interested in any potential " oh, but the rule's haven't changed" explanation. If I hadn't flagged this up for clarification by now I should have, irrespective of how long they have been in operation. Thankyou.
If you amend the terms, rules of conduct and/or EULA - I'm pretty sure you are legally bound to give us an opportunity before the amendment's enforcement to either accept or refuse the new terms.
Sneaking in such a universal waiver into the smallprint?... unacceptable!.
Please clarify.
And thats Illegal right there. I have paid for a lifetime account. You WILL be keeping my account open and available at all times and are in no way authorised to delete any of my data.
Please explain.
So essentially thats carte blanche to rifle through our personal email without consent. Nice! (but not entirely surprising).
You are not authorised to amend, alter, delete or in any way modify my lifetime-subscription account and my access to the online game or official forums without prior communication, explanation and without providing evidence of personal wrong-doing by my person.
I paid $199.99 USD for a lifetime subscription to this game. I must insist you kindly explain this smallprint especially with regard to the bolded-text and please clarify whether or not you are going to offer lifetime subscribers their money back if we refuse these PWE terms.
Thankyou for reading and I look forward to hearing from you.
She's right! (sorry if you are not a she) But... Any lawyer or group recourses against that? I mean, stuff happens IRL that makes folks sometimes unable to use internet or log in for long periods... I've benn without internet for more than a year once (television too), I'm fortunate to had been able to keep my e-mail somewhere even if I got often scares to loose it.
Oh that's bad! Especially invasion of privacy. I know contracts are subject to changes... But now it is a deliberate agree or we take your money anyway.
I'm wondering if bad stuff hits the fan too hard if it is possible to form a mobilised Champions groups that tries to buy back Cryptic from PWE with Champions? (Or is that me still dreaming about games by players for players again? -insert old 40's music in here thoses who knows the reference-)
That longer than 14 character password on PWE bug is true with everyone???
Anyway... Love you Cryptic Devs and love you Champions players... Loved playing at your game especially optimal ^^ and loved playing with other players.
If conversion don't work... I'll miss you all! If it works, I'll have to remember not to RP anymore or type that freely to anyone about every and anything in and out of the game because of that lack of privacy and possible reuses of my ideas for lucrative benefits.
You take care not just on-line not just of yourselves.
I know this is probably too late, but I've been pretty late to this doom-party. I just have one question...
You can't capitalize your handle anymore? Seriously?
Instead of being BlueyDragon I have to be blueydragon, just one big blob of lowercase letters? I don't approve of that at all. I mean, I don't approve of a lot of things here but I think that's the one thing that bothers me the absolute most.
Hey Bluey they are still caped you just got to do it that way no harm done as it is eh?
No, I haven't done this one yet. I threw my silver account to the dogs first to see what would happen. Poor guy became nanotechroo. He was a good man.
Of course, on the My Account page over on Perfect Trek World Online, it calls him Nanotechroo. So I guess it... kind of capitalizes.
EDIT: But then in the actual game, his handle is NanotechRoo again. Huh. So I guess it linked how my Cryptic handle is capitalized. But then once the forums change, it'll be uncapitalized again? Why are there so many different display names?

In-game it will stay the same as it is now. In the forums it will be all lowercase. On the websites the first letter is capped for reasons unknown. Maybe just to taunt us.
Be thankful you at least got your name and didn't have to choose something stupid like bludragoon, blueyedrgn, bludogshit, or some other *******ized version of your name like many of us have had to do. So I would try not to complain much.
Well if you read the sto forums they are working on it so we can have our @names in game back again
If you mean being able to use our @names as our forum names, that would be a massive step in the right direction, but let's just say I'm not holding my breath.
We should already be using our @names in-game. I haven't logged into STO in a bazillion years, so I have no idea what's going on over there. If that's NOT the case, and in-game they're now using PWE handles then I'm done. As in hanging up my tights and never looking back. Cause that would truly be the final straw.
Testing to see if my work with support actually paid off or not. >.< If I'm mistformsquirrel, YAY! If I'm Yumiiagoshi, BOO! (That's a character not a screenname ><)
*edit*
Okay maybe it's paid off, that's the right screen name... cautious optimism here... now the ultimate test... logging in and out.
Check out my Champions Online webcomic in progress!
That's me above. Apparently the accounts I want linked never managed to link... still waiting on Support for more help it seems <x.x> If this weren't so important I'd just give up at this point. /grumble. (Well important to me... it's not exactly world-shattering to anyone else)
too bad I wasn't able to keep my username because I already had a PWE account with that username and it was banned (which I was just informed now, even tough I haven'tplayed any PWE games in years XD)

PWE should have phone support... works wonders with other companies.
Meh. This is dooky. Also: Why are the settings in the userCP so limited? I can't even figure out how to choose posts per page or time zone. What the hell.

Today my acct is listed as silver and unsubscribed, so I've lost the month I paid for last week and can't play at all, till PWE support eventually gets back to me
Yesterday I did the account merger seemingly without troubles. :fingers crossed:
The thing is that I have, currently, 8 characters I quite frequently switch between.
Now, my Cryptic username included a dot that my PWE one does not, due to their more restrictive rules.
The game saved my Cryptic one, so when I relog, together with the password, I also have to cancel that dot each time. [I also was forced to take this silly forum handle... ugh.]
Since it's already starting to get pretty annoying, is thee a way to update it to the 'dot-less'?

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Linked months ago and but none of my cryptic account info appears on my account page (been a lifer since before launch) and my cryptic and pwe accounts still seem separate in game too.

CHAMPIONS ONLINE:Join Date: Apr 2008
And playing by myself since Aug 2009 Godtier: Lifetime Subscriber
I currently cannot play Champions online because the link provided to link the account took me to an error page stating that I must contact support. I never received a confirmation e-mail either. This whole process is just very badly implemented. To that support e-mail they sent me a generic e-mail response with links that had NOTHING to do with my problem or even Champions Online, telling me to clear my cache, cookies, update my flash player and reboot my web browser. This was all done on THE SAME computer my dad used to link HIS accounts, which went well for the most part. PWE, fix your stuff.
Same issue here. I linked my accounts (apparently a bad idea). Now I can't login to Champions. I tried my Perfect World account and I get invalid username or password. So, I figured I'd change my password just to make sure it's the password it should have been. I get a confirmation email but the link gives me an error (the link is expired or not entered correctly). The link should be minutes old and I didn't enter it, I clicked on it. So, I look at the link locations and the one Firefox is showing me is not the same as the one quoted in the email. So, I try copy/pasting the text link and I get the same error.
Cryptic user/pass -> Use your Perfect World user/pass
Perfect World user/pass -> invalid
Change Perfect World pass -> link is incorrect
... so, is this some kind of dumb joke or just your garden-variety incompetence (I include myself in case I'm overlooking something not-so-obvious)
I need to un-link my PWE and Cryptic accounts because the usenames are the same so i cant log in to Champions Online. And i payed alot of money on that account and it says i need to use my perfect world username but there the same HELP ME!!

You need to file a ticket with customer service (PWE) and have then unlink/link accounts.
Make sure you have an account to link to before you ask them to unlink though, i think they get cranky about things like that
I have been trying to get my Cryptic and PWE accounts to link for over three weeks, and I have had two tickets with Customer Service open for over two weeks now with no response. Has anyone been able to get any kind of response from them over account linking (or any other questions)?
Do they happen to have an actual phone number that might lead to a living, breathing, menu system?

Yes, as I mentioned in another thread, I got a response, and managed to get my problem escalated. I eventually managed to claim back this displayname.
yea, um i dont think you can make an account on the STO or CO site anymore cause i just tried and it kept saying please re enter password and select agree to terms. also when i went to download STO and CO it already let me use my PWE account to log in. so will i never be able to transfer zen to those games?

Now if only I could figure out why they didn't put that crap as a link on my CP panel.

Thank you in advance.
I'm pretty much in the same boat. Linked months ago and but none of my cryptic account info appears on my account page (been a lifer since before launch) and my cryptic and pwe accounts still seem separate in game too.

And playing by myself since Aug 2009

Cryptic user/pass -> Use your Perfect World user/pass
Perfect World user/pass -> invalid
Change Perfect World pass -> link is incorrect
... so, is this some kind of dumb joke or just your garden-variety incompetence (I include myself in case I'm overlooking something not-so-obvious)
Make sure you have an account to link to before you ask them to unlink though, i think they get cranky about things like that

Do they happen to have an actual phone number that might lead to a living, breathing, menu system?

Yes, as I mentioned in another thread, I got a response, and managed to get my problem escalated. I eventually managed to claim back this displayname.
