No, I'm not, actually. "Nothing" isn't much less than what STO people got, but it's still less. ;)

Yea, pretty much what you want.

In effect you'll be making up a completely new account, but for PWI instead of Cryptic. That means you can start over with a new log in name instead of Babyfishmouth. And a new @name.

Once linked, you'll only see your new identity if you log on as the PWI account. You really wont need to use the cryptic log on anymore. So in your case this works to your advantage....assuming the name you want isn't taken.

That is the problem most people are having with this change. Folks who want to keep their @name are finding it often taken already in the PWI system. Forcing folks who might not want to be, to be born again...so to speak.
So there's just a new login layer hooked into the system, which makes sense because database merging is rarely easy (unless the two databases' structures are identical) - even moreso in this case because PWE's username and password rules are more restrictive than Cryptic's.

Yeah, pretty much what Pandaman said. I linked my Alternate (Silver) acount to see what would happen. That account's names were taken and I had to reselect a new "Account Name" and "Diplay/Forum Name". Changing these, however, did not alter my @name, only changed the word (name) that I use to log into the website/games (both STO/CO) and the word (name) that's displayed when I make a post. Again, my in-game @name for both CO/STO remained the same.

I should note that the account's "veteran" status remained. I had maintained about 60 days worth of subscription way-back-when on that account (to get a Refer-a-Friend bonus), and those days remained under the new PW account.

So, ummmm.... did the account linkage already become mandatory?

I just tried to log into the game and keep getting an "Account Server connection failed" message every time from the in-game screen.

I just re-read the OP and didn't think I saw anything there that implied the account merge was already mandatory, but maybe I missed something >.>

I just spent the last 3 days locked out of the game because of this garbage.

I linked my account, just like you asked - and suddenly my password stopped working. Now I got that resolved thanks to Customer Service... after a 3-day wait for a little help. But even after all that - and after all the money I've poured into this game and STO, I'm going to lose my forum name.

More importantly - and what's REALLY ticking me off - is that I'm losing my forum name in 'favor' of one that I created as a toss-off so I could try out Perfect World (the game) years ago. I played it for about 15 minutes.

I say again: I'm going to lose the name by which everyone on these boards has known me for 3 years, because I made the apparently stupid mistake of playing Perfect World. Do you realize how IMMENSELY lousy that is as customer service goes? The kind of terrible message that sends?

'Play our games and we'll screw you later when we buy your favorite game company!'

I am usually a pretty calm person - I feel I'm pretty darn forebearing given that I'm *STILL HERE* after all this time... but I'm pretty close to bolting for the exit at this point. I don't want to do that, but I already felt like a 2nd class player since I prefer Champs to STO, so you can understand if I'm not willing to push that much harder to keep going.

If my Global name gets changed - @Pion in game - me and my multiple hundreds of dollars annually are leaving.

I'm already upset about losing my form display name. If I lose my global it's over. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

I was informed by CS that our in-game name shouldn't be changing - so there's that. I was also informed my forum name would be though, hence my ranting above this post.

Contact support again and see if they'll unlink your current PWE and Cryptic accounts. Then you can create a new PWE account with a handle more to your liking.

I just found this little beauty on perfect world's support site.

Q: What about my @handle? Is it gone?
Nope. Your @handle will always be what you use in Cryptic games. Think of it this way: instead of two names, now you have three: account name, @handle, and forum name. Your @handle and forum name CAN be the same, but will not be automatically. If you select a different "nickname" at PWE Account Creation, it will NOT change your @handle. Likewise, if we change your @handle, your forum name stays the same - at this time, there is no way to change your forum name.

Not sure if I'm allowed to link it here but just go to their support site, find and click the "forum and website" category under Featured Support Categories and take a look at the account linking FAQ.

The display name is the name that counts (seeing as it's the public-facing one)...

I find it pretty weird that my account name was already taken, mostly because it isn't public-facing and it seems unlikely that someone would happen to choose the same thing.

I put that together with the "chances are, we've already reserved your account name and @handle" and I get "somebody screwed this up."

    Exactly Mistform dear,

Either which way, theoretically whether Champions-Online's profits could potentially self support it's development - or (as studios operate) whether CO has a percentage share of PWE's resources and profits from the entire portfolio of titles allocated - it seems apparent that not enough is being ploughed back into Champions-Online specifically.

Perhaps the UNTIL report will prove me wrong.... hope so. This title should of grown more than it has done in the last (nearly) four years.

I have no interest in supporting StarTrek Online, or Neverwinter tbh, no offence PWE Cryptic, I'm sure they'll turn out just fine and players enjoy them and everything, but I'm a Champions fan and this is the product I'd like to see invested in more.

    This... Every last word...

I have an STO account. I even play it on rare occasions, when something special is going on...

But CO is the only thing that keeps me anywhere near Cryptic and PWE...

As long as CO is up, I'm here. I'm a fan. I've bought almost everything there is to buy in the C-Store, save a few Become devices. If it ever goes under, I'm gone and neither company will likely get anything from me in the future. That's no type of threat, its just the truth. I wouldn't hate either company, it's just that CO is the only thing keeping me here...

And I get very sad every time I peek into the STO forums and see all the Dev communication every day, then come here and listen to the crickets...

Please invest in my favorite game ever...

We've just launched the new Star Trek Online website, so now's a great chance to link your account to access both PWE and Cryptic options. Linking your accounts will make it faster to log into all your favorite games, and easier to link up with your friends in other games.

Read on below for an overview of how to link accounts and what the benefits are.

How do I link my accounts?

Navigate to https://my.perfectworld.com/sto, and login. This will take you through the linking flow. Be sure to select the correct radio button for your account type.

take you through is a pretty generous discription for what it dose It could really do with explaining the process more.
    Why are we linking accounts?

By linking your Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic accounts, you will enjoy a more streamlined process in accessing your information and logging into your favorite games. Doing so will also allow the friends you play with to find you more easily in other titles.

unless of course we've had to change our display name

    How do I purchase ZEN?

Navigate to our billing page https://billing.perfectworld.com/charge. You'll be able to purchase ZEN in a number of ways, including prepaid ZEN cards, credit cards and PayPal.

Oh prepaid zen cards this could be one of the few good things to come of this merging provided you can actually purchase them some where.

How do I transfer ZEN to a server?
When you buy ZEN, it gets added to your wallet, which you can view at https://billing.perfectworld.com/mywallet. From there, you'll be able to select which game, then which server you want to transfer ZEN to.

Wait I thought this was going to be more stream lined sounds like were going from purchase C-points then spend ingame

    to

Purchase Zen move to game we want to use it in then purchase what we want thats a extra stage in my book.

What if I don't want to link?

Account linking will soon be non-optional. If you have a Cryptic account and link now, you can claim a special item in Star Trek Online. Also, the sooner you link, the better chance you have of getting your preferred account name and display name.

given that account names and display names are global to all the PW games I wouldn't hold your breath on getting the one you want.

    [
What if I don't have a PWE account?

The linking flow will walk you through creating one. Chances are, we've even reserved your account name and @handle.

Yea about that seems to be broken when I go thrugh the process it tells me my display name is taken yet its not got a red box round it so is it taken by me and there's something up with the reservation side of things or what?

Why are the boxes red? It won't let me have my account name/@handle!

    Couple things to check:

    1. You can't have the same acount name and display name in the PWE system. If yours are the same, decide if you'd rather it be your login or your public name, and pick something else for the one you care less about.

    2. If they're not the same, it's possible that one or the other is already taken in the PWE system, and you'll need to select something else.

    see above

OK boys and girls, pay attention, I have some very interesting information after a long discussion with an extremely helpful and patient Cryptic support rep (I'm convinced that despite all support tickets being sent to PWE that Cryptic still has their own support team -- the level of service I get from tickets routed to Cryptic support is 1000x better than those that go to PWE support).

PWE account names and handle names share the name database, so if the name you want is used as an account name it can't be used as a handle, and vice-versa. This is why some people are not seeing the name they want listed in the CORE database despite the system saying the name isn't available. In these cases it means the name is being used as an account name and therefore can't be used as a handle.

As for reserved names, if a PWE username/handle was reserved for you by Cryptic you should be able to log into the PWE website using your Cryptic username (adjusted to adhere to PWE naming conventions) and password. If you can't then your Cryptic account name or @name was already in use (as either a PWE account name or handle) prior to the attempt to reserve the names and you're outta luck (which seems to be the case for me ).

Should... should we mention the Questionite exchange where he could do this exact thing?

Theoretically he could set it at any rate he wants, but whether that'll get anyone willing is another story. Or at least a 'quick' turnaround.

Sadly this probably goes for me as well. I got an e mail back about my display name and it looks very much like they simply CAN'T fix it.

They said something about 'working on a fix'; but quite frankly I have zero confidence at this point. Zilch. Nadda. None.

I've gone back to CIty of Heroes for now - it's not what I want; but I feel like it's at least getting some support and updates, and it's where the Legion of Catgirls hangs out (my old supergroup from way back when).

If you're ever over there and feel like saying 'hi', I'm mistformsquirrel on the forums there (and always will be, thank bob); and @Yumii in game.

Maybe with luck someone at Perfect World will wake the hell up and I'll be able to come back someday.

    I wanted to add:

Thank you Kenpo and everyone at S.E.C.R.E.T. - you folks are awesome < . .> I'm sorry I didn't get to spend as much time with you as I wanted, but between real life, ennui and this nonsense here... yeah. If I come back though I'll give you a shout <o.O>b

    *edit*

    I wanted to add:

Thank you Kenpo and everyone at S.E.C.R.E.T. - you folks are awesome < . .> I'm sorry I didn't get to spend as much time with you as I wanted, but between real life, ennui and this nonsense here... yeah. If I come back though I'll give you a shout <o.O>b

This is why I never stopped playing COH. This cluster*(&^ gets worse and worse every day.

What is the problem with your display name?

And I've been toying with the idea of going back to CoX (where I've been CaptainFabulous in the forums for years and years). I popped in about 2 months ago and it was pretty interesting what they're doing over there. And there's always DCUO, which I've never really explored. So there are other superhero options.

I'm not saying I'll never play CO, especially if PWE actually decides to do something with it instead of slowly let it die. But I'm certainly not giving them any more money, nor participating in the new forums.
