Isn't the sensation of being bent over and forcibly taken enough of a benefit? You want something more?

I mean what better way to express your thanks to your long-term veteran players other than "oh well, I guess you'll just have to choose a new name"?

Heh, that was why I was taking a look over here, to see if there was anything on the Champs side of the account. It probably wont happen until they switch the forum here.

    Why are we linking accounts?

By linking your Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic accounts, you will enjoy a more streamlined process in accessing your information and logging into your favorite games. Doing so will also allow the friends you play with to find you more easily in other titles.
How does this make it easier for me to access Dungeon Keeper, Saint's Row: The Third, Magic Online, Warlock: Master of the Arcane, Supreme Commander, Syndicate, Terraria, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, etc. ?

Well, Torchlight 2 is published by PWE and I am playing CO, so I guess those two can somehow get synergy.

Oh I forgot. Whenever a company talks like about things like that, they're really just trying to make you give them more money by constantly showing ads for games you have yet to play/pay for in your face.

Also, STO rewards! Yay, stuff for a game I have absolutely no interest in. You might as well have offered copies of Sonic '06.

Not yet, since this is just a reminder that you should do so, whereas for Forum Posting privledges in STO, it's now mandatory.

It's also retroactive, so that anyone up until this point that has already done so, can still get the same rewards for it (regardless of when they did it).

If and when it becomes mandatory here (and it likely will, probably in short order), I hope the same considerations are given for any reward that they may offer for it. Provided they do (who knows).

I'd like to ask you a favor, line-by-line. Do you have access to all the LTS benefits that were provided for you upon purchase?

I understand some things aren't verifiable at this time (Cryptic point stipends and such); but any that can be checked easily it would be greatly appreciated.

It would help other LTS members (including myself) in understanding if something doesn't work with their transfer how they should respond to it.

I'm asking you as you have already gone through the process and so those that haven't can wait till we get a response on any outstanding issues with the transfer before we go ahead with it.

Ah cool, thanks for confirming this. Again, much appreciated.

This means any issues that others may have we can safely assume those to be specific issues that we can bug PWE support staff on. ;)

Important note to anyone creating and linking to a new PWE account:

PWE account passwords have a maximum of 14 characters. I've read about a few people on the new STO board who had longer Cryptic passwords that can't login to the game or change their account passwords after merging to a new PWE account. The game launcher and PWE password change option only allows 14 character passwords, but the merge account option kept the original Cryptic account password that was more than 14 characters. These people are stuck in a catch 22 at the moment, but can apparently log into the PWE website with the longer password.

So apparently it's a good idea to either change your Cryptic password in advance, or create a PWE account first if you don't have one. If I understand things correctly, people linking to an existing PWE account don't have this problem as the Cryptic account information is added to the PWE account.

We've just launched the new Star Trek Online website, so now's a great chance to link your account to access both PWE and Cryptic options. Linking your accounts will make it faster to log into all your favorite games, and easier to link up with your friends in other games.

This is completely false. A complete and utter fabrication. There is absolutely no way whatsoever that creating and linking a PWE account to my Cryptic account will achieve what is stated here. It is physically impossible. Advertising things that you know to be inaccurate is certainly immoral, and potentially illegal. Shame on you.

Read on below for an overview of how to link accounts and what the benefits are.

How do I link my accounts?

Navigate to https://my.perfectworld.com/sto, and login. This will take you through the linking flow. Be sure to select the correct radio button for your account type.

    Why are we linking accounts?

By linking your Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic accounts, you will enjoy a more streamlined process in accessing your information and logging into your favorite games. Doing so will also allow the friends you play with to find you more easily in other titles.

No it will not. Why are we not being provided with the real reason ? If you don't want to provide an answer to this question, don't. But please don't lie to us.

    How do I purchase ZEN?

Navigate to our billing page https://billing.perfectworld.com/charge. You'll be able to purchase ZEN in a number of ways, including prepaid ZEN cards, credit cards and PayPal.

How do I transfer ZEN to a server?
When you buy ZEN, it gets added to your wallet, which you can view at https://billing.perfectworld.com/mywallet. From there, you'll be able to select which game, then which server you want to transfer ZEN to.

What if I don't want to link?

Account linking will soon be non-optional. If you have a Cryptic account and link now, you can claim a special item in Star Trek Online. Also, the sooner you link, the better chance you have of getting your preferred account name and display name.

The speed with which one links accounts has little to do with the chance that one will get one's preferred account name. This is determined solely by whether or not the preferred name has previously been used. Linking accounts at the first possible opportunity has no impact on whether or not someone used that name in PWE a year or two ago. Again, why can we not get an honest answer to these points ?

    What about my Cryptic Points?

Cryptic points currently on your account will remain on your account - you won't lose them, but you can only use them in Star Trek Online or Champions Online. Once you've linked your account, you can take advantage of the many payment options to purchase Zen.

What if I don't have a PWE account?

The linking flow will walk you through creating one. Chances are, we've even reserved your account name and @handle.

What if I don't have a Cryptic account?

That's okay. When you login to the Star Trek Online or Champions Online website with your PWE account, we'll grant your account the proper credentials to play all Cryptic games. You won't have to do anything except maybe choose an @handle.

Why are the boxes red? It won't let me have my account name/@handle!

    Couple things to check:

    1. You can't have the same acount name and display name in the PWE system. If yours are the same, decide if you'd rather it be your login or your public name, and pick something else for the one you care less about.

    2. If they're not the same, it's possible that one or the other is already taken in the PWE system, and you'll need to select something else.

It won't let me have my email address!

If it says your email address is already in the system, try recovering your PW login name and password here: https://register.perfectworld.com/account/forgotid

What are the Privacy and Data Protection Policies?

The protection of your privacy and personal information is very important to us. Please visit our Privacy Policy page to learn more about how we safeguard your account information.

But I only get 80 CP for every 100 Zen!

The Zen to CP conversion rate is the the same as the cash to CP conversion rate. Zen is $1 : 100 Zen. CP is $1 : 80 CP. You'll receive the same number of CP you always did for the same dollar price.

    1) If you need to bribe paying customers to link accounts then there is probably something wrong.

    2) If you need to bribe paying customers to link accounts, then perhaps having the bribe actually be relevant to the customer would be a good idea. Bonus items in STO for CO players ?

    3) The link you provide for linking accounts takes me to STO. I dont play STO.

Something as well to point out is that this seems like this only really applies to STO at this time, so I'm sure they delayed CO's version of this due to potential issues and that they only informed us through here because it has to do with Cryptic Accounts overall and not specific to Champions.

I'll wait till the CO version of these changes occur before switching over.

When did you actually start reserving the names?

Because this is the first mention of a reservation system in place for making PWE accounts through the links from here. If I'd known about that, I wouldn't have made the account a couple months ago through PWE's website.

Further, I can't find any indication of a PWE account actually having the display name squidheadjax, anywhere.

Look at the bright side; you at least have a reason.

I can't even seem to find a happyhappyjoyjoy user within PWE. When I search for one I'm told such an account doesn't exist. Yet apparently I couldn't take that name regardless. And now I have a name misspelled with freaking zeroes (like some mouth breathing Internet douchebag) in order to retain some measure of recognizability.

So yeah, at least you have someone to point to and say, "Hey, this is because of THAT yahoo!" A small consolation perhaps, but at least it's something!

    That's... something I hadn't thought of.

Our @names aren't supposed to be changing, and can differ from our PWE form names... but there's never been an @name/forum name divide before and I'm guessing that new users and PWE users crossing over won't be given the option to start choosing different identities for both the forums and the games. So what if the PWE account name alter ego to our @name decides to take up residence in CO or STO? What then?

Is it like Brou says? Do we get unceremoniously kicked into a new @name moniker after all of these years because some PWE punk decides to try these games?

I made myself a PW account just in case, but I'm seriously thinking of canceling my account and putting Cryptic and PWE on my shitlist of companies never to buy anything from again. It's a shame I JUST let my next three months of sub run through, otherwise I'd have pulled the plug on my account today.

Depends on where you live, but if the terms for the product have changed, you might get a refund. For example, originally, Cryptic stated that your characters or account would never be deleted. Now that is changing to a "can be deleted after 12 months of inactivity". Maybe you could try demanding an LTS refund based on that? I know UK consumer laws are really strict, so if you live there, it's definitely worth looking into.

I'm just going at this based on what I've seen/heard with other digital media the past few years. I'm definitely not a legal expert.

You know what, I think I'm going to give Cryptic Studios the benefit of the doubt until we at least get an official response.
With regards to those who were on the 'Forumites' chat channel tonight and may of overheard my little exchange with Splosions I'll say I don't feel I'm letting my fears get the better of me.

The fact of the matter is that there has been so little communication (yet again) we have nothing to go on but observing continued unwanted PWE mission-creep re: acquistion and consolidation of Cryptic assets and resources (I'm puttings devs in there as resources btw) to service their titles, and getting very little in return.
h2orat used to be here, Tumerboy used to be here, Poz used to be here, now Robobo has been assimilated by PWE. I'm getting pretty sick of the brain-drain.
A continued strategy I might add that in my opinion has yielded unwanted game-initiatives and done very little since PWE acquisition to expand and develop Champions-Online as a long-term Cryptic project.

This is also unfortunate because we appear (and I stress 'appear' as apparently it was rather a shock to the STO community as well) - so appear to be on the cusp of a major forum change ourselves, one that has not gone down well with our STO cousins..

There is also the matter of the terms of service. There needs to be seriously in-depth clarification there, especially with regards to LT-subs and potentially account-changing terms of service they never signed up for in the first place.

So yes, a clarification and amendment of that terms of service please, not an excuse of "Oh its there and worded like that just in-case...." (because thats wide-open to potential abuse tbh).

According to California consumer laws Cryptic should have offered a refund as soon as they required the user to agree to the EULA.
