They can't do anything immediately with the tech they are using in their other games without Hasbro and CBS noticing the similarity and pulling their licenses, so Cryptic sneaks it into CO when they can.
So, the Lemurian Invasion is part 1 or 2 of a larger arc... intriguing.
However, I was terribly disappointed by your non-answer about the Foundry. Does CO not in fact share a code base with STO and NWO? If it does, then the question of Foundry should be a matter of when, not if. I'd really like the chance to try inserting the stories in my head into the game...
Also looking forward to ground vehicles. The Hawkwing works for Blackwing - the whole "wing" motif, after all - but Spider-Bat could really use a Spiderbatmobile or a ground bike or something. (I could also use a Copperhead for Farhunter - it even matches his color scheme! - but I'm both philosophically and financially opposed to lockboxes.)
You need a giant riding spider. But wait. That would be a ground vehicle.

You replied to me in a rather lengthy manner but you didn't address the question you quoted.
Because whether I have *personally* reviewed the code is irrelevant.
I'm making no claims that I understand the code as-is (unlike others).
The counterargument to me saying "You haven't seen the code, you you don't know." isn't "You haven't seen the code, you don't know." That's the equivalent of a dwarfed toy with brightly colored hair.
Because whether I have *personally* reviewed the code is irrelevant.
Unfortunately in this conversation it's more than relevant because you are attempting to talk down to people you feel are speaking "authoritatively" about things they have actually experienced and you have not. In effect you're challenging facts other people are already aware of with your opinion as though it were fact. It's plainly transparent and at this point both less than germane to the topic and a waste of time. Ironically, you spoke of issues more complex than yes or no and then posted a more complex answer to dodge a question that was as simple as yes or no...
Sorry, I do not believe CO is just an earlier version of code that lives on the same servers as STO/NWN, I am convinced that they share an underlying application base through libraries and active processes that sits on the OS because every patch/maintenance and some times even new power effects result in expression within the other.
Your "belief" is irrelevant.
Also, where was it claimed (by someone in authority to know) that STO and NWN used the same physical servers to host the game? We know the games have access to SOME common resources (the Jabber/XMPP chat server, likely the PWE authentication servers, and the Zen store interface).
Divergence in the two games happens at a higher level and through what data is then referenced.
And you're in a position to know this...how?
Unless Cryptic makes it public we are both guessing
Thank you for repeating my argument back to me.
but I think the preponderance of what was revealed early on about the coding for multiple games at one time plus observable patterns in game indicate they are ride upon some common code base and even live processes at the hip
What was revealed earlier? All that was said was they utilize the same code base. Not that any code changes are automatically rolled back to older versions.
So what perponderance of evidence?
A common code base merely means the evolution of each game can be traced back to a common point of origin (Basically Cryptic Engine 2.0). Not that the code for each game is shared by all.
My theory: They can't upgrade the engine without giving us Foundry, because the new versions of the engine require all of CO's art assets to be indexed and cataloged. That's what we've been told is the largest obstacle to Foundry on CO. If they did the indexing, they'd have 90% of Foundry support done anyway. (And yes, as a software developer myself, I'm well aware of the 90/90 Rule.)
Again, I'm not saying it "couldn't" happen.
I'm merely saying I doubt it's as simple as removing comments from unused code and slapping a few art elements into place.
And unless Cryptic really IS rolling all code improvements back to older versions of their Cryptic Engine games, I doubt such an undertaking would be "painless".
Nope. CO ceases (or transfers outside of Cryptic's (or whoever owns them) and the rights revert.
If not, ask Steve Long the next time you see him.
I suppose you heard that from Steve Long the last time you saw him?
For someone that likes to shoot down people speaking authoritatively about subjects they know little about(the underlying code of Cryptic games) this sort of statement seems really suspect. Cite a readily verifiable source or find another avenue of approach.
Maybe someday whoever answers the Ask Cryptic questions will realize the actual answers to the questions aren't nearly as important as to WHY. The reasoning behind the given answers helps show the bigger overall picture, and that is what we're missing.
What I am referring to is the requesters question was not answered.

1) More crap in the way of vehicles and lockboxes that have little to do with playing a superhero.
2) We are planning more content, but aren't going to tell you what it is. Could someone PLEASE go over to the STO team and ask Matt Miller and Phil Zeleski (formerly Positron and Synapse of the Paragon dev team) what communicating with your player base is supposed to be like?

This is pretty much the first 2 years of COH all over again, but spread out more, and i for on and sick and tired of it all.
Cryptic and PWE obviously have no desire to make this game good or even great for that matter. Since they are too busy playing champions musical producer every year, and playing patty-cake with their other two milk cows.
I would much rather see another studio get everything. Lock Stock and Barrel and maybe make this game the COH successor that it was MEANT to be when they made it.
It sure did wonders for COH considering that game lasted for over 8 years, and probably would have lasted as long as Ever-Quest 1 and Ultima online (which are both STILL running)

Player and forumite formerly known as FEELTHETHUNDER
Well, as soon as you can come up with a fact, as opposed to an unfounded supposition presented as if it were factual...
I think the real question is why are you so opposed to people having over time observed enough tweaks to powers, new features mirrored in both games sometimes almost within days, and Cryptic's own discussions early on made public about how the games were being built using a common engine on common servers, and believing this is the case? Why do you have such an issue with this?
True, no one (including you) has seen the code, but based on past information from Cryptic and industry sources the engine is shared and updated for all the games it is quite likely the case. I didn't even have to go look but I did this morning during the maintenance to see - yup, STO is offline as well as always. I'd say that the benefit of the doubt goes in the direction of shared systems/libraries/resources on some significant level. You may contend otherwise, and this fine, but trying to corner people on "not seeing the code" as an out to the broader discussion doesn't change the fact the games are clearly connected code-wise in some capacity, and we know CO gets brought into line with the STO code versions periodically because they have said so. If they are truly two independent branches of the code then there really is no serious need to keep them synced is there, each would effectively be it's own independent version and it simply wouldn't matter but it does.
The rationale your putting forth is like finding a man in the road with a car on top of him (complete with skid marks), and wondering how likely the man got run over by the car or the man picked the car up (hence skid marks) and crawled under it. Yeah, he might have done the latter but would you reasonably expect it? Anything is possible in code is one thing, what is likely is something else altogether hence my "belief" the underlying code base is at least in no small measure shared and resources are shared as well.
That would be my question. And i was very saddened to see there was no answer related to restoring what was taken from the might/brick set.
I play mostly range and hybrid builds now. But, it's not what i'm really into. Seems cowardly and weak at times. Fighting from 50 to 100ft ft away and calling that a "Fight". Sigh...

Because every noob used to play an OP Behemoth.
I'm happy PWE fixed the issue, hopefully shadowstrike and ice cage,
2 gun mojo will be next in line getting the deserving nerf.
I don?t understand the emphasis on vehicles. In a game of superheroes with travel powers, vehicles are completely superfluous. This is a superhero game, not World Of Tanks. We want to see story content (with or without the Foundry), powers, costumes, etc.
If you have to, why not go down the path that The Secret World have taken where new DLC is paid content, either with money or in game currency?
Please focus on core superhero elements, story, powers, costumes, nemesis, hideouts, etc., not on fluff like vehicles.
Because every noob used to play an OP Behemoth.

Op Behemoth? Noob??
First of all, i have never played a be-what-evea! Been gold since this game started! All my builds were different in some form or another. Secondly, you getting your azz knocked around by a behemoth has you bitter? Sorry about that...but really i just want what was taken. Nothing more nothing less.
By your little jab remarks, you most likely play a b---h build that can't stand to go toe to toe up close. I understand. In any case, i hope they make might builds "Feel" like might builds again. I know there will be more "Soft" folks who will cry out...but hey, you can't make everybody happy.

Cool, but people kept arguing about AT balance and this is the result.
It's not a lie, i can remember everybody and their grandparents playing
easy mode aka. behemoth (at that time). A la' "I can kill ff - because i'm
stupid and use broken game mechanics", luckily this phase of the game is LONG gone.
And not at all, i run maxed out everything, my survivability is great and my dps makes so called "tanks"
RUN away...
Again they never answer my question about power sets. costume sets. I'd really like to see the power color trays expanded and black white be added. I would also like to some animation choices be added to the customizable structure of the game.
Children, mommy loves *both* of you, it doesn't matter whose epeen is bigger.
Kenpo, there was an interesting tone to your posts. Have you, in fact, seen the interrelationship of the code bases, or spoken with someone in a position to know?
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"

Oh, really?
I must have been playing it wrong since Sep 2009...
Never had I experienced a streak of winning. In fact, it was quite the opposite and a streak of getting one-shot through defiance, blown up with explosive arrow stacks, chainsawed, ebon ruin crit, etc. Never once did I feel invincible, and I've only played that set forever, in 6 different combinations, too.
He can say what he wants. He just has to realize that others will read it as well.
If you can't take the heat...well you know. I don't like copy cat Ebon Ruin builds. Do i want to see them nerf "Ebon Ruin" ? No. That would be selfish and uncalled for. Simply because someone doesn't like some thing, doesn't mean it needs a nerf.
But to rub it in or be a little B---h about a whole set being nerfed is not cool at all. There are more people playing this game than just the hater himself. But, i don't think he cares. Or knows any better.
Because every noob used to play an OP Behemoth.

2-Gun mojo doesn't need a nerf. It had needed a boost since the beginning. I would rather not see this power get the clip.
He can say what he wants. He just has to realize that others will read it as well.

You're right, i do not know any better since i refuse to play as a ff. (i like to have an actual challenge if i duel. AT vs FF is fun to me)
Idk about the ff aspects of the set nerf. All i can say is, that it did balanced out some AT issues and believe me at that time, it was needed. Just like ice cage today, should be nerfed since TANKS should remain TANKS (glaciers can crit 12k in pvp which clearly is another design flaw of PWE)
I didn't wanna offend anybody. Just stated some facts. i'm at work, grrr (nightshift sucks, but viva la interwebz)
Another fact is:
when i first started working at subway's...
my boss has said :
"Son, you are going to be an awesome "sandwich artist"
my reply was :
"Oh really Mr.?, but i'm not really into having threesomes."
I'm just glad I'm not paying for CO anymore, I bought a LTS at launch, but that's more than paid for this far in.
They're not getting any more of my money unless they turn things around, which I doubt they will, which means I have more money to give to The Secret World or Planetside 2.
How about "When are you going to fix large bugs that have been here since beta?" Like the mail bug where deleted items are not returned to you... ever....

Well, as soon as you can come up with a fact, as opposed to an unfounded supposition presented as if it were factual...

HELL no!

Because it's not a vehicle.
If we do not hang together we shall certainly hang separately.

That is ****ing hilarious! The new DEFINING picture of Champions Online for me!
#TELEPATHYNOW!
Because every noob used to play an OP Behemoth.
I'm happy PWE fixed the issue, hopefully shadowstrike and ice cage,
2 gun mojo will be next in line getting the deserving nerf.
If you have to, why not go down the path that The Secret World have taken where new DLC is paid content, either with money or in game currency?
Please focus on core superhero elements, story, powers, costumes, nemesis, hideouts, etc., not on fluff like vehicles.
Whatever happened with Brad Stokan? Have I been away THAT long?
Stop crying about getting beaten by Behemoths.
Learn to read, kid.
Do you need a forum bann? let's ask this way  you piece of... cake.
And i think that you are an uneducated kid.
RUN away...
Kenpo, there was an interesting tone to your posts. Have you, in fact, seen the interrelationship of the code bases, or spoken with someone in a position to know?

"Oh really Mr.?, but i'm not really into having threesomes."
anyways. laters.
If you agree that other starter powers should do approximately 2000/.5s at level 40 I will support your point of view.
They're not getting any more of my money unless they turn things around, which I doubt they will, which means I have more money to give to The Secret World or Planetside 2.
