200 marks is not "generous." It's 2,000 dilithium-equivalent, barely the reward of one 60-second CCA. That kind of login bonus lots of other games run every day permanently.

OR... its 4 days of Rep progress without having to work for it, or dang near half of one piece of Rep ground gear. You're only thinking of the dilithium and how it applies to you.

Next giveaway will be a lump of tribble dung for everyone that has turned up their noses and poo poo'd the freebies given so far.

It can't be discarded and will apply the "little stinker" debuff to that person account causing their character to randomly repel all quest NPC's making it impossible to talk to them for a short time.

Debuff can be removed on a temporary basis but to do so will cost 1k dil and 30 marks from each rep the character has maxxed out.

I'm hoping that they revisit one that I missed in past Events.

    A T-3 Excelsior.

Unless they have this on Autopilot I would not expect new stuff on Saturday and Sunday so while it may last 8 days, there will be 6 free rewards.

    I've a suggestion.

How's about Cryptic rolls back the servers to the day before the Giveaway started, and delete all the Free stuff people were given??

I'm ashamed and embarrassed that a group of players feel they are entitled to FREE stuff that has 'better value'.

You didn't have to work for it and you gained something. Be thankful. STO is still on the of the most generous games out there. It's a 20GB+ FREE game. That's bigger than the extreme vast majority of AAA $80 games, and it has over a 100 hours+ of playable content and other things to do, again, more than the vast majority of AAA $80 games!

The knight sat upon his mighty white steed and meted out great justice to the grumbling peasants all the while unaware of the black knight at his back.

Somebody left a flaming bag of doggy TRIBBLE on my doorstep once many years ago, I gained a flaming bag of doggy TRIBBLE and didn't have to work for that either. I found the generous gift giver and firmly shook his hand.......or, no that didn't happen.

It's not "generous". This is not a charity but a promotion. I personally find it weird to project gratitude onto a company but that might be just me. But of course the people saying to not look into the gift horse's mouth are right, it doesn't matter and nothing is taken from you. Just be happy about it :)
Right. And as a promotion is really lackluster. As other games have this level of stuff as standard daily login bonuses.

F2P is not generous either. It's a business model like any other.

To be honest I'm not particularly interested in "free stuff." This game doesn't need more free stuff, it needs the exact opposite. Stuff you actually DO have to put down some serious gameplay to get. This...not even interesting enough to log in for.

I would like to know how you came up with that "100+ hours" figure, though?

I'd like to know why people are complaining about free stuff? Free is Free. Why complain? Yea its not what you WANT to be given away, but still... free is free! I am seriously confused about why we're even arguing over free stuff in the first place!

As to saying its a business model... compare STO to TOR. Which one has the better, more generous F2P model?

Exactly. Said earlier....If I'd have complained about anything (food, money, gifts, etc) given to me by my parents, it would've be taken off me, and mostly likely have lost my allowance for the week. I've been taught to be always grateful. The 'TRIBBLE' analogy poster is going over the top. We've been given extra pocket money to use not a rancid piece of faeces! And in the event that something is put up that someone already has, it's not excuse to claim compensation either, as that person hasn't been placed in a game-changing unfair advantage nor has he/she lost out on anything. Remember, this is all at the expense (potential sales lost) of Cryptic, not, as some like to think, the player.

And just to think, that 8 year old kid, who's parents are poor, playing this game, would give anything to get something extra free in the game to help out, as they can't afford to buy anything. Anyone who's complained should be ashamed and embarrassed.

This is me, minus an eight year old kid. My son is 34, with three kids of his own and plays the game too, so yeah, it's him too. My husband and I are on a fixed income with no extra, so I appreciate all the free stuff that's been given away. Would I have liked the last two to be for all characters? Yes. Am I going to complain because it isn't? No.
Now a LTS and loving it.

Like hell. A "giveaway" of 200 marks is comparable to maybe a gram of bread or a penny on Christmas. Free is free, I don't debate that, but this is also the yearly giveaway that is always hyped up and which began with a giveaway of four costumes instead of the normal yearly 1. I appreciate all of the stuff they've given out so far. It's all helped me in some way or another, but at the same time, I could just as easily get 200 marks from the Undine Battlezone after spending maybe 20 minutes there doing nothing with a hangar pet and an empty Federation control point.

Yes, they're giving us free stuff. 200 marks, however, is effectively a free "breath of oxygen". Compared to previous years, and even previous days in this same anniversary series, it's not exactly difficult to see why some people are a bit let down from their expectations of grandeur.

Also, quit with that emotionally manipulative "8 year old kid who's parents are poor" TRIBBLE. I was poor, and I can tell you, the last thing I wanted was to be told "Hey, guess what! Here's a present!" only for the 'present' to be a used up can of air freshener. 5 minutes rummaging around in a garbage can would yield the same results, and being 8 year old, it would have been much more of an adventure for such a valueless piece of garbage.

"I got what would normally be 4 days worth of items on one day, so I expect more the following days." is perhaps the weakest argument that I've ever seen.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

It's hardly hyped up when nothing is said about it until it arrives.

Even less so when you realise that hype is only ever as big as an individual lets it become.

Something folk seem to be blind to these days as they sit and moan about games like NMS, which was obviously not going to be as stellar as the hype junkies thought to anyone without a rose tinted prescription or anything close to a healthy dose of cynicism.

Or like how some people were hyping up Elite Dangerous as the STO killer because it was "More Trek like" and yet... here we are and how much have we heard about ED since then?

    Squat.

But there will always be people who expect more and more rather than be content with what's offered. Family again can be an example. Kids today just keep wanting more and more toys rather than be satisfied with what they have and if they don't get what they want, they throw a hissy fit, trying to get it.

Now I'm not saying that any one is throwing a hissy fit around here, but there are plenty of people moaning because the giveaway isn't up to their expectations.

Me, I don't have expectations. Do I hope for grand stuff? Yes. But I don't moan about not getting big shinies.

ED and STO are two from different genres so anyone claiming that just shows their own stupidity.

Unless of course someone has figured out how to play sto in vr with a hotas or dual sticks and voice controls, but even than it'd be a pretty big stretch.

Didn't stop a couple people a few years ago from hyping it all to hell. One even had a Hype Train sig showing ED as a speeding freight train slamming into STO.

And for the record... I too thought it was just stupid, and even said as much back then. There had been any number of WoW Killers come and go over the years. STO had an indirect one and we're still here. End of story.

Elite Dangerous? What edgy, teenage fanfic writer came up with that name? Sounds like a Rob Liefeld character...

Elite is the name of the series which started with its first game in 1984, Dangerous is the name of the current game of the series which would be the secondary title. To compare a game series so old to something dreamed up by the current teen generation makes no sense.

Have you ever worked for EA?

If poking fun at the whingers and trying to inject a small amount of humour into the process makes me petty then yes I am petty.

Well it was indeed funny, just not too constructive but I got your "whiff" of sarcasm. I often catch myself having to deliberately take a step back from time to time in similar situations figuring out am I saying what I'm saying trying to make something better or just to make myself feel better out myself. I'm sure the longer a thread goes the more that happens.

"F2P is not generous either. It's a business model like any other."

Extremely accurate, don't let the title fool you otherwise.

Elite Dangerous? What edgy, teenage fanfic writer came up with that name? Sounds like a Rob Liefeld character...

it kinda does, doesn't it. funny thing is you can role play a member of a tng era starfleet style group with very little effort. hell I don't even need guns on my ship it's so carebear friendly.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

The '****' analogy poster is going over the top.

Also, quit with that emotionally manipulative "8 year old kid who's parents are poor" ****.

Nothing emotionally manipulative about it. I'm not flush with cash, I'm from a poor working class familty, have various things that keep me from working and have to maintain 12 toons to provide me with Zen when I can't afford to open my wallet.

The only thing I'm doing is putting things into context and the simple fact is, this is an 8 day giveaway, at the cost to Cryptic, that's cost the players nothing. The lack of appreciation shown for what will be about $30+ dollars of items per player, in total, is a damning statement on those that believe they are entitled to more free things than what is on offer.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

No.

    ^_^ V

Thanks :) I just understand not having funds when I really want something in the game. Happens to me all the time and I just need to be patient to get them.

leemwatson, truer words were never spoken. My husband is retired, with a small retirement check from one of his previous jobs, plus his SS check. So we barely scrape by with bills and groceries. He does supplement it a little with a few side jobs, but that goes for gas for the Trailblazer.

Therefore I'll probably start farming more stuff ingame as soon as I get my desktop back as I can't play the game for more than a few minutes at a time on my laptop before it starts randomly freezing up. It'll probably get me through the next Anniversary event and I might get it back during the event, depends on when my son can get the components he needs.

Still, even if I'm slightly disappointed in a giveaway, I won't b*tch about it. That does nothing, not even making me feel better.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D
