  • Thanks very much, that's certainly interesting. I can't find Wine 3.1 available to download, how did you get it? (My Linux is 64-bit so according to someone in Wine's IRC channel it needs to be the 64-bit edition of Wine). I've tried PlayOnLinux, too, but that only wants to talk about installing programs from scratch and…
  • True, that works, if it's a big game like STO and you're just looking for random teammates to do a mission with. Where I really have the problem is with roleplaying - for that, you often do need to be able to play with the same person repeatedly to finish some shenanigans or other. For me, in various games, it's…
  • *sighs* S'pose so. I suppose the upshot is, people who aren't Americans shouldn't try to play multiplayer games. Or learn French, then I could play games in French, if there are any. I keep meaning to try that (I think my French and German are good enough that people might be duped into letting me join at least one session…
  • They were going to do that, if it hadn't been that they had a bright idea (haha, pun unintentional) in the nick of time - the episode is called "Operation: Annihilate". That bit at the end of - was it "Balance of Terror"? Some episode involving the Romulan Neutral Zone, anyway - where they'd sent a signal to Starfleet…
  • I' ve sent in a ticket. I actually sent in a ticket before, because I was getting the "Video card will not be supported" message, and was told that it would run and to take no notice. Am cross.
  • There's "Addiction" by candelagreene and one of the series the missions that follow that (it's actually the beginning of two different series); that's about Orions and Orion hybrids. Not particularly FOR orions, though.
  • Probably there are good answers to this, I'm just asking: where does it say that Andoria, Tellar and the rest disbanded their militaries in favour of Earth's Starfleet, as opposed to 1) each world has its own space fleet and Starfleet is Earth's or 2) Starfleet is interplanetary and we just see Earth's division of it?…
  • Thanks! I'll have a look at that as soon as I have time.
  • Some fanfic writers on here systematically call it longer than 2 years, anyway. Same sequence of events, but spreading them over five or ten years, and heaven knows they'd be enough history to fill five or ten ordinary years. I think the Masterverse stories do this, for instance, although they're meant to be a slightly…
  • If the next Google Pixel or iPhone had an integrated tricorder, would it be a deal breaker for you? Is this something you want to see on every smartphone designed & developed? The idea of using it to calculate the nutritional content of food seems a little pointless, since most products with labels have that information on…
  • Thanks very much! I'm having to take a break from STO at the moment, but if/when I come back, will definitely bear that in mind. I looked at your website and liked the Alpha/Beta/Gamma Shift system, that's a very neat idea and very encouraging to see for someone who was wondering whether the fleet took time zones…
  • Did you end up getting anywhere with the comic, Smokebailey? I seem to remember you saying you were thinking of making a comic. Going by those pictures, I'd love to see it!
  • What exactly are they meant to be, can you clarify - people who'd be assigned to ground/starbase security, rather than people who are security officers belonging to the crew of some starship or other? Have I got that right?
  • Actually, mine's not either (Junior Academy Mission, the one with the views of the Solar System). It dispublished itself, as missions sometimes do after a patch, and I can't get the Foundry editor to load so I can replace it, it's been like that for some weeks now. (Bug described in the Bug Reports section:…
  • I'd love to know what the actual prompts were that gave rise to the pictures in the posting, if any?
  • Nah, I'm not in a fit state for that at the moment, anyway Foundry editor hasn't worked for me for some weeks. I did come across a mention of one mission called "The Ferengi Job"?
  • Hi Wetknife, you're in the wrong section of the forum. This is the section for or about role playing. Try Academy, General Discussion or Feedback. I'm pretty sure the answer to your question is no, though.
  • @bobsled624 : It is sad though that we don't have anything that's what the OP described as "a RP station, that almost always has something to do". I don't ever recall there being anything to actually do on the Open Starbase; as a visitor all you do is watch people talking about things you wouldn't understand unless you…
  • I get this bug too. It occurs in all kinds of places, I've had it in sector space, in Foundry missions and on a fleet starbase. I accidentally found a workaround for it: type "/fpsgraph 1" in the chatbox to turn on the FPS diagnostic graph, and the bug stops. I don't know why this should be, can anyone else guess?…
  • @jaguarskx : Thanks. Fingers crossed, then! @nimbull : Oh, of course, but my hope is that since Zorin Linux is so much lighter on resources than Windows Vista (my computer is at 50% RAM used even when it's not doing anything), that would free up a big chunk of RAM for other things. Seriously, I've tried out Zorin on a…
  • Just for curiosity, would you say that it actually ran better on Linux (fewer memory leaks, etc.)? I'm interested since STO does not run nicely on my machine at all, although I admit that's probably the fault of low RAM and slow Internet without needing to blame memory leaks. Thanks for that, both of you. Actually, the…
  • Hi. This looks a nice fleet. I was wondering, are you any better in terms of things going on in UK/European playing times than, say, 26th Fleet? I've visited SB381 a few times, but I get the impression that all the actual action is reserved for American evening hours and the European hours are only spent talking over what…
  • OK never mind. Pity.
  • Oh yes - I get most of mine that way. Same missions, I think - "scan so and so" or "investigate exobiological data stream" or things like that, anywhere out in sector space. (Exact names escape me, but I've an idea they haven't actually changed since all the crafting materials were changed, they're still talking about…
  • I very much support having the Na'kuhl skin for costumes, please, and preferably some ready-made Na'kuhl NPCs too. So THAT's why there aren't any Na'kuhl Foundry missions! I was puzzled! I've had a plan for a while of making a whodunnit in a Na'kuhl refugee camp (I don't know when it'll get done, though). Obviously, I'd…
  • "Captain, I estimate there is a 42.5621% chance of this posting causing the thread to collapse in a huge argument." "Do it anyway." I'm trying prompt 1, have stopped for a bit due to not being in the mood but do have a story. I thought of having a go at prompt 2, as well, but first, I don't really get the Mary Sue thing (I…
  • haha GOOD ONE (if you mean what I think you mean) (and if *I* mean what I think I mean)
  • I tracked it down. When it says south, it means north :D I'm in the habit of noting down details as I go along, so here they are if this mission is still being updated and you want them. The big strength of the mission is all the wonderful variety of aliens and locations and shady shenanigans. Felt like being in a scene…
  • I played this a few days ago and enjoyed it a lot! Is there any more on the way? I'm in the habit of noting down details as I go along so here they are if you want them. For anyone who has trouble finding the entry point, it is there, it's the pair of turbolifts on your left as you look down into the ship requisitions…
  • Hmm. I'm not sure how they can claim BOTH that this is a way of cleaning up some nuclear waste AND that it doesn't contain any hazardous nuclear waste. They can't have it both ways.
