I voted Varanus, both because the KDF really needs a T6 sci ship and because the Gorn line of vessels needs something to cap it off. My T5-U Varanus is a beast of a ship, but my Gorn toon is falling way behind my KDF tac-captain and all of my Fed toons in terms of ship power.
Another having this issue with Sunrise. You shift to the nebula map, the cutscene plays, the dialogue window opens, and when you click out of it your ship isn't shown and the scanner won't point you anywhere. I can luck onto the first scan by moving forward, but the second and final scan points don't appear.
If I recall, that moment is part of the tutorial pop-up sequence. Once you take the rifle you then have to open your character screen and equip the rifle in your second weapon slot.
