Episode Skip can be done by clicking the button on the bottom left of the minimap (it looks like a combadge). Go into the Episodes tab, and you can skip to your heart's content (or until you hit the level requirements).

Not entirely a ruse, they did follow-up by giving away 3 ships, all of which could be upgraded. If you missed out on those that is unfortunate. And there are numerous ways of getting 5-U capable ships without spending a dime; the exchange, dilithium grinding for Zen, or special event prizes such as the Risian ships.

I figured it out! You tried to claim the Ar'Kif Retrofit several hours after the giveaway ended. Had you claimed the Ar'Kif at the same time you claimed the other ship you would have gotten both. Tough luck.

If it's the same as the Quantum you get from the Steam Starter (Mk II Acc+DMG), that thing can last a new player a good while, at least 'til level 20 or so. Okay, that may not exactly be a long while, but it is nice to have at least one piece of kit that doesn't have to be swapped out right away.
