Found a ship I can't beat :-)

shireknightshireknight Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Today I came across this nightmare of a ship that simply batters me every-time I go near it :D

I'm happy because it means now I have to do some grinding in order to advance to the next episode.

Coincidentally I've just been promoted to level 45 so lets go find some tier XI equipment to take this sucker out with

Heh. Yeah D'Ds can be rough for new players. It's the first ship that really needs some basic tactics to beat instead of "press spacebar".

I'm guessing it's smacking you with tractor beam and then launching a ton of heavy torps at you? Few ways to deal with that. You can use Polarize Hull to break the tractor beam lock on you. Tractor beams have a range of 5km, so if you stay farther away than that, it can't smack you with it. You can also use Fire at Will or Cannon Scatter Volley (depending on what weapons you have) to shoot down the heavy torps quickly. I'm sure there's other ways I'm forgetting too.

It's a d'dex, slow turns, but in right cases the hy plasma can be bad... best bet attack from side or aft and keep near maximum weapons range.

Yeah, try to evade being in "her face" - that's where the D'Deridex is nasty to new players, she likes to hit with the VM in that frontal arc. If you stay behind her or on the sides at least you should do ok.

Photonic Shockwave will knock out the triple HY, as well as disabling the tractor beam.

Also, it's a bit more involved but a lot of fun, is to hit polarize hull, eject warp plasma, and evasive maneuvers. Fly over or under the DD and trap it in a huge plasma field. When it tries to fire it's HY torps, they immediately explode (used to actually explode and seriously damage the DD, not sure if that still functions the same).

Even just getting some range can help.

    Evasive maneuvers is one way.

Main thing, is to make sure the tractor beam doesn't pin you down.

The DD works best when its backed you into a corner.

Oh yes, D'deridexes. Hell on warp drive for new players.

Some tips, some of which have already been mentioned:
If you haven't already, try a cruiser for this round. If you don't have one, you can get the Lt. Commander rank ambassador by playing "Temporal Ambassador." That's what got me through the rommie arc. :D

Cruisers are really good at broadsiding.

Use "target nearest enemy" and the target cycle keys to target those pesky torpedos faster.

When a bunch of torpedoes are headed your way, give 'em the ol' torp spread or release warp plasma.

Get polarize hull to break tractor beams.

Try to stay more than 5 km away--that's the range if the tractor beam.

Try to stay out of its forward arc as much as possible, otherwise it'll hit you with viral martix and shut your weapons down. If it then tractors you and fires it's 3 heavy torps...

Haha, I remember this particular nightmare. :) It was soo frustating as a newbie: I just kept being blown out of the sky.

In hindsight, it was one of the best missions ever: it's the only time on your way to VA, ever, where you are forced to adapt and learn. If only more missions had been like that.

Played the mission on the highest difficulty setting, without any repair parts, talk about an adaptive experience.

HAh!!! ... Back in MY day ... We had the "Borg-dassian Death Turrets" to deal with! ... 100K to 250K In one hit, had a range of around 20K and could shoot beams out of their A$$e$!

Seriously though, I don't actually remember that ship, but then I've been mostly flying Cruisers and using the old favourite Beam Boat Broadside/BFAW Spam Aux2Bat Spam tactic, and I learnt early on to stay outside of Tractor Range ...
Oh, hoho hohhhhh, Oh,, hoho, hohhhhh

thats simple as a sci, polarize hull sci skill, gw1 and or gw3, faw or ts1 assuming either, use sci scan skill, to make it easier to attack the torps, failing that hazard emitters and boff repair skills. best not to attack head on, get use of tractor beams and park yourself on it's side, do what you must to take that monsters shield down. rsp and tt can provide shield boosts for a short time and always use the bfi skill when possible you never know how much damage the shields will let through or how many plasma torps will hit you.

wanna get even more nasty? use scorps and photonic fleet, then depending on your ship try barrel through with a gw and ewp1 and finish off with tractor beams.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

These can be a pain on your first play through but it's really not that tough once you get the play styles down :)

Cruisers can sit at 6km to the side of the ship and broadside while negating everything it can throw at you either by range or by firing arc.

Science ships can negate the High yields using Grav wells or Tykens rifts while replicating the cruiser tactic.

Escorts can spike like hell, give it a set of 3 dual heavies and a torp, load up on single target skills for both weapons and let loose on the ship from behind.

The trick ultimately is to know your ship's playstyle (and find what works best for you :)) and then use that to control the engagement.

This is a fun mission for a shuttle-only run.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
