  • I agree with this. What the aliens in question actually believe is of central importance to how it goes down, and vice versa.
  • Oh! And there are examples of life on Earth that are essentially biologically immortal. See Turritopsis nutricula and Planarian flatworms. If your alien species qualifies for biological immortality, that's a bit of a spiritual game changer. If they're like T. nutricula, then they might have a concept of reincarnation in…
  • Also, what does eternal entail? Our concept of it is everlasting life, but they could easily see eternity to be defined scientifically. If time is a dimension, then we are eternal by default, even if we cease to exist completely prior to birth and after death, much in the way that we cease to exist where our skin ends.…
  • Things to consider with your aliens: 1) Do they believe in a soul? 2) Do they believe the soul is eternal? 3) Do they believe their souls are unique? 4) Do they believe in a god or gods? (Belief in both some sort of deity AND a soul is the most common, but they can be mutually exclusive- Sumerians believed in gods, but not…
  • Well, just as a counter to that, physicists hate the term God Particle, since it's misleading. It's a Higgs Boson. The media kinda screwed that one up and scientists cringe when they hear it. But, you do mention something interesting in that people's beliefs would largely be unaffected. Religion would change to accommodate…
  • I also realize I probably sound like an atheist. I'm not. I'm a non-specific theist bordering on deist.
  • I think one important thing to get down first is how the aliens in your story think. Whether God(s) exist or not, human religion is largely a consequence of how our minds deal with pattern recognition and sense of presence. If you think about it, there's not any particular reason that a non-Terran species would even have…
  • I do SO|xx
  • Got back on the horse, been giving you 100 dil each time. Just finished Episode 22. Awesome. And I love the character development, especially with the Cardassian hologram. I love playing your series, and when I'm done, I will continue to do so, moy drook.
  • Perhaps you could also have a reputation thing to expand it. Like a starbase except it's just you, and you can use any kind of marks, or something already in place so you don't end up grinding specifically for a vacation home too. Sorry for the tangent. Just got me thinking.
  • Like, perhaps the house could have a bank console, email, the transwarp feature, a kitchen and a home bar with specialties from that planet's dominant culture, trophy space, and a room set aside for career specific activities (like, a sci officer would have a lab, an engineer would have a workshop, etc...)
  • That could be interesting, especially if it had a few unique features. Or a home on any planet perhaps. Like choosing the planet your character lives on and having a transwarp there, with the option to change planets for some dilithium or EC or something.
  • Funny you should mention that because I realized that irritation is the one emotion that Vulcans don't seem to be able to fully suppress. For example, put Tuvok in a situation where he's alone with his best buddy Neelix for more than 2 minutes. As far as being arrogant and condescending, you certainly see that in the DS9…
  • Indeed I will! Thanks for the heads up.
  • Yeah, I was about a quarter the way through them before the switch over made them disappear. I'm hoping they come back soon, as I'm quite sucked into it.
  • I don't really think that the 4 gender thing is supportable. The line that Data says ends with "unless" meaning that there's more to the Andorian concept of marriage, which we don't find out because he gets cut off. One of Lal's choices is as an Andorian female. Not a shen or a zhen. Shran seems to be a one woman kinda…
