"DOOM!" threads and comments in these forums are outrageously funny to me. I heehaw like a donkey at some of them. To quote James T., "People can be very frightened of change.".
Kinda makes you wonder what the doomsayers do when they discover the Circle K is out of Cheetos and Diet Dew. XD
I wonder if they will create a new forum like they did when we switched over from Atari.
I would be over the 'Moon' if the official forums could thrive and come alive again, without the presence of certain... inhibiting factors.
Wow. Subtle. And ironic. 😏
aww you have a fan
Actually, I would hope so, considering that one was shadowbanned by a previous mod team, and I unbanned them. So, I do find it ironic that I'm being accused by them of being inhibiting when I actually uninhibited them. But hey, no one knows what I actually do *for* them behind-the-scenes. They just see me modding and warning people when they break the rules. What's a girl to do? 😏🤷♀️

Actually... I did not accuse you of anything. Moderation is not something we are allowed to discuss (or even debate) on the forum, so I made sure my thoughts on the matter did not result in you having to take action against me.
And since I am not allowed to expand upon the matter to be specific in what I regard as inhibiting moderation and the effect it may have upon the wider community, I left it as speculation as to whether we would be getting a new forum with the new owners.
I have no problem with 'you' per se, as you are simply doing your job to the best of your ability and no doubt have to follow guidelines from Cryptic on how to do it.

You're absolutely right. I apologize. I inferred that I was the subject given the 'Moon' in quotes of your statement. And there were no actual accusations, just implications, that I am somehow inhibiting the forum. Thank you, though, for acknowledging that I am just doing my job, according to guidelines, and by implication that I do not have an agenda against anyone in the community, as some seem to think. 😊

No, Gearbox is. But assuming the merger completes, Take Two will then be over Gearbox and DECA.

You sure? I was under the impression that DECA and Gearbox where two seperate entities under Embracer which led me to belive that Embracer kinds launched the escape pods for Cryptic from Gearbox for Deca to pick up so Cryptic stays with Embracer under DECA while Gearbox and its titles get sold.

Gearbox has already been sold to Take Two interactive.
"Embracer is hanging on to a few parts of the Gearbox empire: Gearbox Publishing San Francisco (which well be renamed), including the publishing rights to the Remnant games and Hyper Light Breaker; Cryptic Studios, the massively multiplayer specialist, with its games Neverwinter Online and Star Trek Online; and support studios Lost Boys Interactive and Captured Dimensions."
For those wondering why Gearbox Publishing San Francisco was not included, thats what PerfectWorld Entertainment was renamed to when Embracer bought out PWE/Cryptic and put them under the GearBox umbrella, and thus will be renamed again.
Please, don't close this thread (at least not without answering my question first, LOL).
But I heard Gearbox is getting (has been?) sold (I learned of this indirectly, via 'Gamer Gate 2.0' news). How does this effect STO? (If it does at all)

STO was never really part of Gearbox (despite the big logo at the top of the page). STO remains part of Embracer.
The Gearbox sale to TakeTwo Interactive has already gone ahead.
As far as I'm aware, STO is in no immediate trouble, but it has been transferred to DECA which is a subsidiary of Embracer. They are in the process of transferring some job roles from the USA to Germany, but DECA have outright stated that STO is not being 'sunset'.
From Phil Frazier:
"Yes - things are changing. We're in the process of transitioning our business to DECA. This process is quite involved and has broad implications on the development of the game, issues related to publishing, etc... We still haven't fully resolved all of the complexities but we're making great progress with the team at DECA.
I'd like to make two major points.
Star Trek: Online (plus Neverwinter and Champs) are not being sunset as part of this transition. The primary goal driving this change is to better position all of these titles for continued development into the future. Our shared ambition with DECA is that these games live on for many years to come.
The plan, as of writing this, is to maintain a steady state w/r/t our content cadence and mix. This could change over time as the business evolves, but right now we're pushing to keep things as they are.
With any change as significant as this, it's possible there will be challenges that impact things down the road. We still have a great team at Cryptic, and a growing team at DECA, trying to mitigate risks as best we can. All staff at Cryptic are fully looped-in on the process and as you all have noted in a few threads, some of our team have decided to proactively find other work. Game studios see people come and go all the time, and with as much internal transparency as we're providing into the process, I fully support and celebrate folks taking whatever steps they need to be where they want to be.
I have agreed to participate in a stream with Mike, Brett, and Jarrod in the coming weeks. I think we're pushing for 3/19 but don't hold me to that just yet. We'll provide more updates there. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye out for comments here. Some I'll save as questions for the stream. Some I may deal with in real-time below.
I actually think this might be a positive move. My faith in cryptic has slowly declined on every level over the the last few years (except creative). It can't get any worse.
STO is still with DECA currently. if that changes believe me some of the forumites here will make sure we all know.

Interesting, didn't know that was how the sale went down.
