You will take command of an era appropriate Federation starship (while still retaining your current ship’s stats, just like Battle at the Binary Stars) and face a lone Borg Cube intent on your destruction.
They should have made this optional.
I'll likely check out the mission once just to know what it's like and then never play it again. Simply because I refuse to be forced into a ship that isn't mine. I don't spend hundreds of Euro's on legendary starship parts and tons of resources on gear upgrades to make my own ship perfect, only to be forced flying something that looks entirely different when I want to play this mission.
It's disappointing that they haven't done anything with this feedback. Why would you keep forcing a feature upon players that goes against the entire idea of your game - ie flying your own ship?
I agree. While a tactical simulation recreating the battle of Wolf-359 could be useful from an inworld perspective, it actually makes little sense to "fly an era appropriate ship" to prepare to fight modern mirror borg in a modern (or even alien) ship. Using the modern ships the captains fly normally would be much more useful for the purpose.

Technically speaking... its just a "holographic overlay". We're still flying our ships. They're not replacing our gear, so for all intents and purposes... we're just "blending in".
Honestly I don't see it any differently than when we have a Holo Cloak on our ship in Night of the Comet. We LOOK like a D7, but that D7 has the power of whatever starship we're flying. Something that probably confused the hell out of the Connie and the House B'Vat ships.
Also I have a feeling there is more to the "Holo Cloak" than we're seeing. I mean think about the last time we had "Holo Cloaks" on our ships. Binary Stars. Didn't the majority of those ships eventually become playable? I think only the Klingon bullet didn't get a playable version.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

In Night of the Comet, it was only a very small part of the mission though IIRC. And that episode was avoidable, this new mission probably won't be (unless one chooses not to use the random mission system).
The article literally says that it will be like the one we get imposed on our ships in Battle of the Binary Stars. It doesn't change much, we're still forced to play with a ship that isn't ours (visually) when there's no good reason at all to force this upon players.

Personally these whole 'simulation scenarios' don't make much sense to me.
To recreate the simulation, one has to have a lot of data of how the events unfolded. So we already know what happened at every moment - ergo, there's very little for Starfleet to learn here about these specific events. They already have to know everything there is to know about the historic events themselves.
And there's also no point in using these historic events as a baseline for other scenario's (ie, predicting the future), since those very old events under very different circumstances by themselves aren't going to tell us how things will be different in our future engagements.
I get that it's a way of letting us play some of the well-known battles from the series without having to build an episode around it or another explanation as to why our captains are reliving those same events.
So in the real world, it makes sense to add this type of content. But in-universe, it makes little sense and therefore indeed, the holo-overlay is totally unnecessary.
I'm sure that gameplay-wise, it'll be fun. But for me, the amount of fun I'm going to get from it will be drastically lower than what it could have been, because of this choice.
Unfortunately, on top of the yawn factor of it just being a simulation, each one of these "holo-recreation-of ..." missions is a lost opportunity to throw a bone to all the temporal agents (both TOS and DSC) to actually participate in a new temporal mission. And as a temporal mission instead of merely a no-stakes simulation it makes for a more interesting play session.
And like I said before in other threads, if the devs are worried about writing themselves into a corner with all the paradox of new time travel missions they could always set them on a parallel timeline though the reason to do the mission would have to be something besides just avoiding the consequences of not doing the mission on the main STO universe. Examples of the latter would be things like weakening a crosstime attacker, getting sucked through a rip that having to save someone who died in the event back home but who has a theory that with a little more work can help the PCs get home, etc.
STO players long ago learned not to fear just a single Borg cube. How hard could one be to defeat, after all?
How hard? As hard as a Gozer Cube? One shot plasma weapon that could do so anywhere on the map? Reportedly somewhere north of a million hit points, after you drop the shields? Seemingly ridiculous mitigations on damage? Enhanced regeneration? And probably a whole lot more that has been blanked from my mind.
Really hoping this will be something other than another my DPS Is more than your DPS.
Yet another Borg TFO in combination with the other Borg TFO's in the game that always pop up whenever I try to do "Random" TFO's. Not very random when every time I choose random it's a Borg TFO. Might as well change the "Random" button and make it say "Borg".
I was kind of hoping it would be a 10 player TFO. Imagine the site of player ships being tossed and gutted in a flurry of torpedoes and beams as we work to knock out hardpoints on the cube to save each other from assimilation. Just a dream. <pew, pew>
I guess that would be like a fleet action vs. a single borg cube (which I haven't experienced yet).

It would have been nice, for a change. On the other hand: queues like Crystalline Catastrophe tend to suffer from serious lag because there are more than 5 players in it.
They'd have to limit the number of abilities and special effects players can use for such a larger queue to work. And the question remains how popular it would be - when's the last time any of us have played Starbase Fleet Defense?

Fully agree, I have really hated how Binary Stars TFO does this to us, and whats worse it even causes bugs when you get disconnected and have to reconnect that break interactions for the rest of the session! Please stop doing this, it makes zero sense to force a visual over our ships when we have all the same mechanics that void what the true intent of an era accurate simulation would be, it just makes no sense and its something I don't want to see anymore in STO.
And this is doubly true of those missions where we are literally forced to fly actual ships or play characters with gear that isn't ours like the Terran arc.
Remember devs, this whole game is about selling us ships and things for our characters that are quite sacred to us, doing this totally contradicts that!
The whole premise of this TFO is TRIBBLE - not only do the Borg of Wolf 359 not fight ANYTHING like the modern Borg now do (due to completely revamping their entire MO thanks to Janeway's actions with the Transwarp Network and which makes it useless for training against our universe's Borg), but we are fighting Borg from an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT UNIVERSE.
That's like training for war against China by fighting simulations of Iran.

Nah it's more like fighting a simulation of the imperial German army, to prepare yourself to fight the WWII German army.
These are still Borg and neither STO Borg or the Kingdom act that different from Prime Borg prior to mirror Janeway's trick, only real change in Borg tactics seems to be "bring more ships to the fight" and added aggressiveness for the Mirror Borg.
I have a T6X Cheirax and thought it would appropriate to bring this ship to blast the Borg cube into oblivion.
But when I got there, the instance ship skin took over and I was just flying another genericish Starfleet ship.
Can we please ditch the 1 minute wait time?
At most we need 20 seconds to launch 2 hanger bays.
My main disappointment is that we don't get to obliterate the Borg cube after 25 minutes of battle.
As soon as the cube gets to 45% health, it warps out and the STF ends with "success".
After blasting the cube for that long, I want to see it go kaboom.
This is after all, a simulation, not the actual historical event.
It is not necessary to allow the cube to escape or "win".
And it's darn inconsistent that despite being unbeaten, the post battle cutscene shows all the ships destroyed.......

I guess it's silly to reply to your own post, but on the whole I liked the TFO. Tractor beams, torps and beams flying everywhere and hostile Borg beaming aboard my ship. Since we were able to use our own weapons/abilities I didn't mind the cloak. The ship scale of the TFO was _awesome_. Near the end I thought I heard the sounds of another Borg vs. Starfleet battle elsewhere and I suspect we may see that cube again. Thanks.

I second getting rid of the waiting times. And not just in this mission.
At some point after the older Borg TFO's were revamped, there was talk of looking into the option to just let the queue start as soon as everyone skips or finishes the briefing.
There's really no point in keeping players waiting when they are all willing to start the mission because they've been there dozens or even hundreds of times.
