I believe Plasma is the only energy type where we don't have an easily accessible Omni that's part of a set, nor a Plasma or Tetryon Energy torpedo. Currently, they come only from the Lobi store - and that means spending money!
Phaser and Antiproton torps can be obtained from the Phoenix Pack; Disruptor and Polaron Torps are mission rewards; thus, they only cost time.
Quantum phase does that because it not only has TWO procs to begin with, it also has a very nice drain console specifically tailored for it, and its set bonuses are particularly good at enhancing the drain effect which is like having yet another full drain phantom-console or two. It does not need extra drainx consoles (though it does not hurt to have them), it has the equivalent of at least two already built in.
By the time you have to put in drainx consoles you are already loosing out on whatever other consoles you have to put it. I got a drainer and trust me the drainx consoles don't stack as good as they could be. You need quiet a few consoles to make a difference on tetryon weapons. You need only 1 for the Quantum Phase Set which even gives you a bonus to your phaser damage. By the end of the day I think Tetryon needs to be looked at again to make that weapons type more attractive.

What might be interesting is to see tet get a proc that causes the next torpedo or physical/kinetic based attacks to bypass the shields of the target hitting them as if their shields were down. Or make the proc more of a stacking bypass affect on the shield for torps/kinetic/physical damage even could work.
The fact of the omnis it would be nice if you could have one rep, one crafted, and one set based on. If i remember right with turrets you can actually stack the rep turrets on a ship, and these turrets do higher dps than other turrets, and gives you access to more rep bonuses too. Even if it were moved that you could have one rep an one crafted/mission would be a nice change.
Strongly disagree about them being bad. An all turret ship can easily crank well over 250k. In fact I've been in runs with an all turrets build running well over 375k. The only weapons that really suck right now are tricobalts and that's because of the absurdly long cooldown on them.
You can get around some of the issues. The Lobi Tricobalts (which are not always listed as being such) do not have Shared Type Cooldown and some have a base firing cooldown of 10 seconds. The Bio-Neural still has the long cooldown but can fire from 16km distance. You really need the Ceaseless Momentum Trait for cooldown-per-shot reduction and the Holographic Mirage Decoys Trait to give them invulnerability to make Trics work. Destructible Torpedo Boats are probably running with those Traits anyway.
We still need some Torpedo Turrets. They showed them on Deep Space Nine, so we know that they exist. Let us have some.

I would love to see some function added to the cluster torp, like with them being affected by both the mine spread attack patterns as well as the torpedo abilities (high yield and spread).
Also what if we saw the shield drain moved from a static amount of shield drain to a percentage of shield shield. So instead of say a tet drain dropping shields by 600 point per proc (on shields with low hp that is pretty good but not so much on higher ones), to it being something like .50% top 1% of remaining shield hp with it being affected by shield drain for example. Having the drain proc scale based on the shield type it could bring them up more inline with other types.

Usually the consoles you would "lose" would be things that enhance the direct-fire damage aspects of the weapons, but you don't actually lose them because they are built into the various tetryon set consoles and set bonuses instead of the drain that the Quantum Phase set concentrates on.
Quantum Phase Catalysts is a bit of an odd duck since it is supposed to be a mostly self-contained drain drop-in on an otherwise standard phaser damage build, probably to try and entice players into trying a full drain build in one of the times where the meta solidified too far around phaser direct DPS builds. It is kind of a one trick pony (albeit a nice one).
That said, drain in general needs to be buffed up a little since NPCs tend to be massive damage sponges that are not hampered by drains anywhere near as much as player ships are, which puts drainboats at a disadvantage compared to pure DPS dealers.
Better yet, just put drain back to the level it was in 2012, where a properly kitted drainboat could shut down tac cubes in less than 5 seconds and KEEP it shut down permanently.

I do agree that my drain boat with over 800+ drain expertise does very little harm to enemies in terms of systems shut down. There is even enemies I can't get the shields off with that amount of drain. Cure Advanced the Vo'Quv end boss, can't drain the shield with over 100+ drain on tykensrift + energy syphon + tachyon beam III. Its crazy.

If you really want to help all weapons, then people should demand the omni-restrictions be removed as there's no legitimate reason for them to exist in today's day and age. Aside from not being allowed to have 2 omnis of the same set, such as 2 morphogenic omnis, it's an arbitrary thing that adds no value to the game and creates an artificial disparity between beams and turrets that doesn't need to exist.
Now with that in mind, tetryon is only "bottom of the barrel" if one gives a flip about whatever the flavor of the month "meta" is. All the energy types are within a few percentage points of each other and all of them are viable choices, including tetryon. The biggest thing that needs to happen aside from removing omni restrictions is that the energy types other than phaser and disruptor need to see more support options than they have now. It's rather sad at time how little support some of the other energy types actually get compared to those 2.
We gonna nerf the damage of omni beams or buff the damage or turrets to be comparable or better? I'm sure that wouldn't make the all omni crowd very happy

Sorry I must have overlooked the set part.

I think the closest we got is the Torpedo Point Defense console, and the torpedo barrage console from the Lexington.
