It's been decades since there has been a ST game worth playing. Why are there so few ST games? I mean there's like 89 Final Fantasy's ffs, but only 2 or 3 ST games in history that have ever been good. I just tried the mobile Fleet Command game. That was short lived. That game is full of griefers, and it's a ridiculously expensive pay to play model.
So I came back here and logged in after like 10+ years away, looked around a bit, and within 5 minutes logged back out. Where do I even start after being gone 10 years? Level 65, and I have a T6 ship from those days, but I'm assuming every piece of gear on my crew and ship is all obsolete and useless. My damage, well lets just say a shuttle equipped with modern gear would probably 1-shot my crappy Battlecruiser. Just thinking about the amount of effort it would take to be relevant again... *sigh*
I want to like this game. I really do. It's the only Star Trek game that has any kind of enjoyable gameplay. But I also want to be able to get to end game content and gear or else what's the point of the grind. But I was like a deer in headlights going back in this game. Sure some of it was familiar, but trying to figure out what I should be doing with a very ill-equipped lvl 65, and 15 year old T6 ship, it was quite overwhelming.
TLDR; This game has become a gigantic monster, and I'm mad at myself for no longer having the patience or brainpower to be able to get into it...
That's a good suggestion. I just wanted to try and pick up where I left off to get my main into relevance again since I have time and some money to spend.
Is it still possible for solo players to do end game gear content? That's where I always have trouble in MMO's. I'm not a social type. I don't want to have to join a guild to be able to do content.

Fleet gear isn't necessary to be viable at endgame. While things like Vulnerability Locators from a fleet offer a few advantages over standard damage consoles, they are not required. And there really isn't any content that absolutely requires you to be in a fleet.
Get a good set of mk XII purple quality gear, a decent ship of either T5 or T6 flavor, and a good BOff setup, and you're good for everything short of Elite difficulty content. And if you need help with any builds, there are many players here on the forums who can give advice. I myself would advocate for starting with a balanced build that can be tweaked to suit a playstyle, but that is just me.
And even if you're not social... there are casual fleets out there that don't really require anything. However on that end it is your choice.
Yes, we really do need some proper modern Star Trek games of every genre - especially RTS; there hasn't been a single one since Armada 2...all the way back in 2000.
No, mods for other games, as nice as they may be, don't count. Neither does cancerous mobile TRIBBLE.
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.

Absolutely.
Most of the 'exotic'/synergy-based gear is from reputations or lobi/lockbox(which is freely tradeable on the exchange outside of a handful of lobi items).
Most of the events are based on group queues, which can be a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it. It generally means you HAVE to play with other people if you want the FOMO prizes(or buy it later on Mudd's market), but it also means there's almost never a fail state.. if you fumble, other players will be there to help/cover for you as you figure things out. The queues do not require a premade group of people you know; you're generally thrown in with complete strangers and everyone just does their thing until some arbitrary gameplay quota is reached. A handful of times a year, they'll include soloable patrols or minigames as optional participation criteria.
"End Game" Elite content, on the other hand, is something you would have to work together and build teams for. However, there is zero need or purpose to doing elite content beyond personal ego reasons. It's not like the old days where it was the only way to get mk12 assimilated gear - all forms of progression are found elsewhere/through individual means now.
Most of the content in the game does have a difficulty option, so you can play your solo patrols or story missions on normal/advanced/elite, entirely depending on how much of a personal challenge you want to set for yourself. Nothing in the game requires 'top end' gear/buildcraft, but it also doesn't stop you from making things harder on yourself if that's your thing.

Years ago our fleet held very casual, friendly PvP events between members every now and then. Once, we decided to do a shuttle fight. And then there was someone who failed to switch, so he ended up one-shotting all of us in his - yes - Avenger.
It was... Memorable. And funny, even when you were in that shuttle.
Anyway, if you were here when T6 ships became a thing, you'll probably do fine. Things have only become easier after Delta Rising, especially as tweaks were made to the scaling of mk 13 and 14 items. Upgrading has become significantly cheaper too.
You'll probably do fine. There's currently an event happening too - that should get you some dilithium quickly that you can use on upgrades. Check the dilithium store and look for Phoenix Prize Packs if you are interested.
Cool thanks all. Based on what I've heard here sounds like I'm not in as bad shape as I thought.
The RTS ST games were indeed fun. I miss those. Played the ever-loving TRIBBLE out of Armada, and Birth of the Federation. But the most memorable Star Trek gaming experience for me was way back in the day. The SFC days. Mplayer, and the StarLance league. Those were super fun times.

There's a lot to learn about and it won't all happen overnight or even over a few weeks/months, but there is no hurry. Spending money will help get you up to speed, but it's not essential. It'll take time to get to grips with understanding all the new stuff since you last played anyway.
Like you, I don't do the social side of things much, but it's a good idea to join a fleet anyway to gain access to some of the more superior gear. Many fleets are very casual and don't expect any social interaction at all.
Even playing for almost five years I still learn something new every now and again. The Wiki, Reddit and here are all good sources of information about different aspects of the game, whether it's factual or opinion-based.
i am still waiting on a star trek game with the story tailing of a mass effect or a dragon age. with that type of story tailing. make allies or enemy's depending on what you do would be great in the star trek universe

While I would say to let BioWare have a shot at it... I wouldn't want Star Trek anywhere near EA after the BS they pulled with Star Wars.

I'm guessing you're referring to the monetization of EA games as IIRC most EA published Star Wars games had decent narrative/gameplay it was just the monetization that was predatory to the extreme.
Any game seems monstrous if you jump in cold and expect to be doing end-game content right off the bat.
Start a KDF recruit while the Recruit event is on, to remind yourself that if you're looking for a "Star Trek" game, ST was always about the trials and tribble-ations of a crew exploring the galaxy, and the stories that went with that.
Join a chat channel like NoP Public Service (or if anyone else has a good recommended chat, please list it) for questions about items and upgrades and help. Take a look at some of the many super-helpful guides people have created over the years: https://sto-league.com/guides/
Sure, if you're worried about topping the DPS chart on a speed-run of some TFO, you've got a lot of stuff you're going to need.
If you're fine with being 96% as effective as a "top-end" build though, you can put together a decent build for relatively cheap that can handle any content in the game.
There's a lot more to Trek and STO than being "king of the BIS gear" hill.
Cool thanks all. Based on what I've heard here sounds like I'm not in as bad shape as I thought.

As mentioned, create a toon when a Recruit event is on, so that's Temporal, KDF, Jem'Hadar and Delta (Rom, Fed and KDF). This will help alot with perks and resources. Do all the episodes, level everything and do the events. This gives you more options to play around with. Don't worry about chasing DPS. TFO's don't reward based on DPS, only completing objectives.
Just remember, you are not competing with anyone in this game. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Yup. Also the chance of getting a total bomb like Command & Conquer 4 because of focusing on the WRONG thing. Pretty sure they wanted to get in on the eSports market so they designed C&C4 from the get go with multiplayer in mind. Yea it has a single player campaign, but literally EVERYTHING has a connection to multiplayer. It showed, and it sucked. And if you tried to play single player only... because of the way the game is designed you don't get new units as you progress through the campaign like a NORMAL RTS game. Its tied to your faction level, which is a component of MULTIPLAYER. You will literally run into a tech wall against the AI in campaign if you don't touch skirmish or multiplayer at all because you don't have the units to compete IN SINGLE PLAYER because your MULTIPLAYER FACTION LEVEL IS LOW! Stupidist idea that dang near killed a beloved franchise! Way to go EA!
And its not the first game to drop the ball that hardcore either. CoD Black Ops 4 didn't even HAVE a single player campaign, which alienated all the fans who actually DO play CoD for the single player, and that game bombed because it was literally just geared towards the Multiplayer alone.

You might actually be in luck with Star Trek: Resurgence:
I concur with those who say you don't need anything special to play this game. I play on Normal difficulty most of the time and do some advanced TFO queues when I have to do them. I usually prefer to play single and don't do much in the social department. I've run TFOs in T5 ships on occasion when that ship fits the endeavor I'm working on.
Still, I only do endeavors when they fit what I'm doing. Sometimes I'll log in again later in the day to finish them off, but mostly don't.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

excellent first step. however still not to the level of a mass effect or a dragon age. but a very much needed first step to that level. if anyone is wondering what i am thinking imagine mass effect 1-3 swap out all the party members for the tng crew and swap the aliens trying to destroy humanity with the borg. then you have an idea of the endless cool storys that can be told and shaped by your choices in the star trek universe. they said there would be phaser gameplay stuff but i dont think they have a party based team going out fighting in mind

We actually aren't sure what is going on with the Borg, since as of STP S2, they changed the timeline and 'we're friends now'. But I can pretty much see CBS having a tight reign on Borg related matters.

IMO, the actor who's doing Spock does sound something like him, but you can tell it isn't Leonard Nimoy.
I don't want to play a game where I can't design the character myself. If I'm forced to choose from pre-mades it's not as much fun. At least in ME and DA you design your characters and then get pre-made companions. That's much better.

Kinda hankering for a more hands on game experience, but Resurgence looks fun as well. I've played a bunch of the tell tale narrative games, and they can be a fun change of pace. Would have to agree that Star Treks exploration and diplomatic background would work really well for a narrative game. Thanks for the post @szerontzur

The downside right now is that Star Trek doesn't quite lend itself to that outside of STO. Star Wars gets away with it because they can easily tell stories not tied to established characters. Star Trek... while we are seeing more branching out there's still that desire to connect with canon characters. Even in the old Armada games where you weren't playing any particular character, there were canon characters. Starfleet Command did manage to pull away from that for a while, but you didn't create a character. Star Trek Voyager Elite Force was set aboard Voyager, and you at LEAST had some say in if Monroe was male or female, a choice that was taken away in Elite Force II.
Admittedly though we DO need more Trek in our gaming.
Yea, I like stuff where you can make your own characters....sorta like Dragon Quest 3 or the original Final Fantasy. Fleet command has no characters to make....so that's not too bad, I just use an avatar that looks similar to me, like Mirak or Nine of Eleven. *shrugs* Or where one can pick the sex of the character, like Ultima 7.
Wow, I'm only using old school games here, for the most part.
It sounds like you did not load up all your traits. A common thing to overlook when you are a returning player.
They added all these traits etc that boost your characters.
There was even a glitch which reset them. Meaning when one went into a battle you were so weak you had a very hard time surviving.
Is it still possible for solo players to do end game gear content?.
Space Barbie is the ENDGAME
Understood. Not my thing either...
Thanks again all for the tips. I've been at it again for 3 or 4 days now. The Phoenix packs tip was especially helpful. There were a couple of items in there that were upgrades, but mostly the tech upgrades. I had 350k dilithium, so I got 20 crates, and was able to get tons of upgrades from that. With those I was able to get my ship (the fleet version of the T6 Archon Assault Cruiser) up to 2023 standards. Everything was Mk XII when I left. I also started a JemHadar character for the event, and got a Kling to lvl 10 as well.
For the main ship I checked on builds on DPS, they had a 4 year old build. I did a few of the mission lines to get a couple of the consoles in that build, and I know I still need to replace a few other consoles, some other pieces are faction parts, and I need Epic weapons, but so far I've lost about 100k% power transfer going to this build lol. I have no accuracy or crit either. Still, hitting hard enough and having no trouble in Endeavors, missions, or anything else I have tried so far. But, she feels more like a glass cannon now, despite no crit, and I kinda like it. With this ship I want to take it further and make it a full on damager dealer. Any recommendations for improving crits please share. Prob need to respec all the skills and traits and all that too, so I'll refresh on that stuff.
I spent a little of the 350k dilithium that was here on Phoenix packs, but back up to 350k again. I also have 75k Zen from when I left that is still here. When I'm ready to explore a ship, what would you guys recommend spending Zen on? I was looking at the Legendary one for JemHadar.
Are you checking the stats in space or on the ground? Nowadays nothing in the stats list is accurate unless you are in the environment those stats pertain to (space or ground). And even then, the accuracy can be a bit iffy.
With this ship I want to take it further and make it a full on damager dealer.
Super! Making a ship do more damage can be very fulfilling.
Here's a few things to consider.
Tactical console slots seem to work best when filled with energy specific tactical consoles. One tactical console slot can be filled with the Discovery reputation console Lorca's Custom Fire Controls. This will help get your CrtH up. The Tachyokinetic Converter you currently have there is very nice and could be moved up to a free slot as it also increases your CrtH.
Having two points into EPS as part of your skill tree usually eliminates the need for an EPS console. Having a PTR in the range of 200-300 usually works fine, in conjunction with using Emergency Power to Weapons.
Your current science console may not be doing too much for you. For now you could move your Assimilated Module there. It's good for your CrtH, CrtD, and weapons power ^^
One possible storyline reward to replace your science console (and also increases CrtH) is the Temporal Disentanglement Suite
Consider replacing one forward torpedo with a beam bank or array for a little more damage.
Hull Patch or Reactive Armor Catalysts make for very nice consumables that could replace your Ablative Hazard Shielding console when you get to the point in-game to unlock them.

We actually aren't sure what is going on with the Borg, since as of STP S2, they changed the timeline and 'we're friends now'. But I can pretty much see CBS having a tight reign on Borg related matters.
I don't want to play a game where I can't design the character myself. If I'm forced to choose from pre-mades it's not as much fun. At least in ME and DA you design your characters and then get pre-made companions. That's much better.
Wow, I'm only using old school games here, for the most part.
They added all these traits etc that boost your characters.
There was even a glitch which reset them. Meaning when one went into a battle you were so weak you had a very hard time surviving.
Super! Making a ship do more damage can be very fulfilling.
Here's a few things to consider.
Your ship is one of my all time favorites 👍
