Two Ideas for Dil Market Situation

shrimphead2015shrimphead2015 Member Posts: 535 Arc User
I want to share two ideas that I have that may help a bit with the dil market situation, The first idea I did express a while back but it was under someone’s thread so it was buried by other comments.

My first idea has to do with the fleet base (fed or klingon) area map. What I propose is that the fleet could have the option to purchase a new area map for the base. The price for the area map would have to be pretty high to be an effective dil sink but you can purchase as many maps as you like to.

I think from the developer stand point this could be easy to implement if you use preexisting maps from different missions or tfo’s .

So for example if your fleet wanted their base from the space map “Race to Revah” they could buy it and have the base right over the planet. Likewise they could buy other maps and still keep the ones they bought if they ever wanted to switch back.

My second idea has to do with the base itself. I think there could be a dil sink for different styles of bases. Instead of having the standard looking base we have now we could have a base from the TOS era or Discovery era , Kelvin timeline era etc, etc.

Granted this would take more work as the interiors would have to be revamped and possibly the exteriors as well. The price again would have to be a bit steep but you could accumulate a collection of different style bases over time.

On a side note I was going to suggest a modular building aspect to a base but I am not too sure if the developers would want to put all that time in for that.

Anyway just a humble suggestion to hopefully help with the situation.
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

Changing the area map might be low-effort enough to be practical. I like it though I don't visit my fleet starbases that often.

Changing the base itself sounds like when we're asking for ship interiors where it's a level of effort that's too high to justify the returns.

the issue is that your ideas are finite. the very large fleets will complete them in days and then go back to the exchange. it has to be an ongoing draw on supply.. and rewards really need to be throttled. if the faucet flows 5 gallons a minute and the drain removes 3, the tub is gonna overflow

The Starbase interiors do need a serious polishing, and there's plenty of DSC and TOS assets to go around. More sandboxing is always a positive, and there are a lot of maps that haven't been used in a while in addition to new maps for new content (perhaps also with the elusive user-friendly mission editor and balanced PvP).

It seems like a lot of work, I really doubt the Devs want the extra work, especially since the issue isn't Dil related in the first place, the reason it crashed was that there wasn't enough income of Zen and that there was no other way to earn it in game.

    really good ideas!

my suggestion, for a franchise that invented energy credits. and not to mention from a dev. company named cryptic! it is mind boggling, that we didn't expanded into crypto \ blockchain \ play to earn space!!

STO would get more players ,more revenue and in game exchanges would be more fluent.

    Expansion : MetaVerse

    That's true.

I suspect that a LOT of dilithium on the exchange is currently inactive accounts though.
If the offers on the exchange were to be reset and had to be posted again it could fix the exchange on short term.

Yes, it would be a short term outcry but once people realize that their dilithium offers go through relatively fast (+/- one week instead of waiting for months) then it would go silent.

A mechanism where the offers had to be posted again similar to the EC exchange would be optimal in combating inactive offers and most likely mining account.

If they periodically put good stuff into the dilithium store or phoenix boxes with a time limit that could help clear out dilithium. Problem is the stuff they put in there is not super desirable. They keep all the good stuff for lockboxes and event packs.

We have had two Vanity Shield sales that seemed to have an impact. And the Phoenix Events used to as well.

Always find it difficult to quantify the impact of such one-off actions.

I think a time limit for offers on the dilithium exchange similar to the EC exchange has a more immediate effect.
It will help remove the reservoir of waiting dilithium offers, get rid of months old offers from inactive players and get the DilEX moving again.

STO's backlog is only a hair over a month currently. I'd worry that putting expiration on the offers for the DilEx would only make a bigger invisible backlog, with people just refreshing their offers as soon as they expire. I already think that there's a fair bit more Dil waiting to be listed that you don't see in the Sell tab backlog, but people have their slots already full waiting for Zen, and will list once a slot comes open. For offer expiring, it'd be effectively random if you managed to actually get your Zen when posting Dil, as the current value is probably way over the cap even with backlog offer trimming. If this was just a brief spike in response to a one-time demand, expiring trades might work, but this doesn't seem to be that.

I was reading the thread on Neverwinter's Zen exchange, and there eems be a similar issue with their massive months-long backlog, where people pop in once a month and put back on 5000 Zen offers to fill slots for any that went through while they did nothing in game, and that's without expiration.

The disparity between PC and Consoles DilExs is astonishing, like it seems like PC version was greedier, PC was charging 500 and it crashed, while us Console players are currently at 370 and it's still going strong.

There's a difference between PC and Console. PC's primary drivers of the Exchange, Fleet Holdings, are mostly complete. All the major fleets have maxed out their holdings. I doubt that is true of all the major Console fleets since Console version is so much newer. PC has had years to work on fleet holdings, which had a major effect on the DL Exchange because there was still demand. With all of the major fleets finished with their holdings, that demand dried up. And small fleets just don't have the resources to fill the void left behind by the larger fleets.

Also I believe Console Fleets had pretty much all the holdings available to them at once. PC had them come out over time, with the first being the Starbase itself.

Odds are Console will face the same Supply and Demand issues PC is facing now eventually, unless Cryptic comes up with effective and viable sinks that don't have a finite lifespan to balance the economy. Whatever they come up with on PC will most likely be ported to Console before it becomes a problem, thus mitigating the damage far more over there or negating it from even happening in the first place.

Console's still a relatively young economy with plenty of Demand to go around.

There just isn't much that's worth buying in the phoenix store once you upgraded your ship and you have a red matter capacitor, stuff that should be there instead goes to Mudd's market

I don't think the devs really care about ever fixing the exchange...you could wait over a month for the exchange or catch a extra shift and just buy some zen in a fraction of the time

If we could convert other currencies into Zen then we could buy all that stuff without worrying about the Dil exchange either that or move half the C-Store/Zen Store products to the Dil store,

option 3 involves adding an option to convert Dil into Lobi and option 4 requires reimplementing the Foundry into a Dil Sink, however I doubt Cryptic will go through with any of these options, even though all of these options would fix their DilEx problem.
  • rattler2rattler2 Member, Star Trek Online Moderator Posts: 58,579 Community Moderator
Converting any other currency into Zen still requires actual Zen, and a demand for the other currency.
Converting DL into Lobi directly cuts into Cryptic's income.
And considering the Foundry isn't a thing anymore, that is not a viable option as it was pretty much a Lemon by the time they admitted defeat in trying to save it. Was taking too much time to fix it every time it broke, and it broke often as it was an ad hoc setup in the first place.

They actually do care, because a healthy economy is better for both sides. They've expressed frustration at the state of the DL Economy, and have been exploring many options. We just don't see that because its all behind the scenes and they are not required to give us play by play updates on their progress.

The two Vanity Shield sales have helped, but we also have to consider that its a spike. Not sustainable. It did provide data they are using however. They're still working on the problem and exploring various options.

The problem is complex, and will take time to solve. Unfortunately that does mean frustration on the player side as well as there is no magic bullet solution to instantly fix it.

Putting a timer on the DilEx is the first step to get it going again.
Combining it with a one time removal of active offers, removes inactive accounts and slows down mining accounts.
    Both are beneficial.

Sure, if a worthy dilithium sink is not added then every other action is eventually in vain.

Why not open something called the Orion Blackmarket, a secret store that sells "POPULAR" "RARE" "ON DEMAND" cosmetic items for Dil and it automatically changes it stock daily, you want a hot pink ship, a cowboy outfit, plus a Captain Proton suit with holographic BOFFs of every STO villain you ever killed well... now you can,

Personally I feel like lorewise Orions would take advantage of the DilEx crash to make quick buck on the side.

Sorry for derailing the thread, OP's Idea is great but What If we add that stuff to the Orion Black Market, since it's still cosmetics stuff.
