A nerf is a nerf or course of course...

And so on with the great Mr Ed theme. :) In either case, I figured I would create a new thread which anyone could post their views, comments, and suggestions (both good and bad) about the three major nerfs that were implemented recently with the new patch, as no one had of yet done so. These nerfs of course, of course, are about: Hull Image Refractors, Tholian Webspinners, and Neutronic Eddies Consoles. I only ask that you all do so in at least a respectful manner, even as you state your views and feelings on the subject(s) at hand. And while I do not have much to say on the subject myself atm, I figured I would let a good video do so for me, that states many of our views quite nicely. Enjoy...

I already put in a ticket demanding refunds for the adamant and risian weather control vessel. If they refuse to honor that much, I'll never buy zen again. It's bad enough that the mudd market is absolutely outrageous in its pricing, we've gone so far beyond "micro" transactions it isn't even funny, but to then turn around and take things that people have shelled out hundreds of dollars for and make them some of the worst consoles in the game without any warning or disclaimer? Nothing short of abhorrent behavior from Cryptic here.

Agreed. From a purely business marketing standpoint, it was a very, very bad decision to do this (at least a nerf as extreme as what was done to the Neutronic Eddies console). Once I saw it, my first thought was people "might" get so pissed at it, they may quit the game, or at the very least stop putting money into the game... for anything now. Which in the long and short run, would hurt their profits significantly. It also made me wonder if any of the Dev's actually play the game in any consistent matter at all even, because even as caveman such as myself can easily see how this nerf was a huge mistake, and totally too much...

I use the Webspinner and Neutronid Eddies Consoles on my current build. I used them last night in Counterpoint.

I've copied the Wiki write-ups into my Tablet and will compare against the in-game tooltips tonight when I get on.

has good points, who at Cryptic thinks 2k a second is a lot of damage and a good cap on a console.

Devs of this game are SUPER out of touch with it.. I mean seriously look at them still putting out things dealing with your shields, as we if we don't lose shielding instantly and its been that way for how long? but they STILL make ship traits and consoles based on giving shield n stuff?

Guys need to actually log some play time and not in joke TRIBBLE builds featuring some DBBs and Arrays and 2-3 torpedos and running stuff like directed energy modulation..

Well I checked and the Passives on the Webspinner and Neutronic Eddy are about 20% of what they were.

I can also verify that the Plasma Storm Console and Constriction Anchor Console have met the same fate to their Passives. FOUR Consoles on my current build have had their Paaives

EDIT: This is all incorrect. I was on Ground when looking at them. PASSIVES DID NOT CHANGE. Funny that the values on other Consoles did not change when I looked at them on Ground.

Man, Plasma Storm also got a hit too? :( (Vulgar expression moderated out. - BMR) With all of this going on, it got me thinking that maybe, just maybe, this is the start of a huge set of nerf's that are coming on the horizon. Of course, I have no evidence of this, just a gut feeling is all, but with the heavy handed way they have been hitting abilities (Exotic Damage atm), (Vulgar expression moderated out. - BMR), and the recent addition of things in game that really have no great benefit to the players, I have a bad feeling about this; that dark times may be ahead that the players are NOT gonna like at all.

And to be fair, it's not the Dev's fault at all either... its those who make the decisions for the game who's blame this all falls on. I have seen games die with such blatant attitudes before, from those who simply do not care anymore, and more often than not, it never the Dev's fault. They are just the easiest target is all, and for that I do apologize to them if I was too heavy handed in my comments towards them. However, to those in the business suits at Cryptic who make these decisions to TRIBBLE the player base, I will hold accountable until my dying breath. Get a clue guy's, will ya please? And please have the guts to come here and reply to some of these great player's concerns... because they are legit.

They seem to be going after Exotic Damage.

I haven't seen any notable change to plasma storm or constriction anchor, and as far as I can tell the passives on the webspinner and eddies were not changed, only the damage dealt on clicky.

Make sure you're actually in space when you're looking at the consoles, and not in a ground map / ESD. The passives don't show correctly otherwise.

In my totally not expert opinion, all they'd have to do is introduce a trait or shield that adds an immunity to drain, and caps maximum shield penetration (including exotic dmg) at a certain percentage. All of a sudden all those shield consoles and traits they've been introducing lately could become viable. It would allow for a whole new array of shield tank builds.

As to the main subject, I understand that nerfs are sometimes necessary. The Adamant console was overperforming and needed some work. But did you have to make it practically worthless? Buying a good console or trait is as much part of my descision on whether or not to buy a certain ship, as the ship itself. And you just made a ship I already bought a lot less valuable.

If you plan to make changes to a certain console or trait it wouldn't hurt to inform the playerbase beforehand, so they could hold back on the purchase until they see the end result.

Respectfully, I agree with the premise that if a console is a part of a ship that one spends "money" either thru a lockbox or C store then if it gets nerfed, they should either refund the lost utility of that resource and make it available as an updated version with "reduced cost"

Throughout the life of STO there have been a number of indiscriminate nerfs. It is their right to do what they want with the content they write. However, to have people spend "real cash" then have that resource depreciate dramatically is not cool at all.

I know we had issues in the past of "Nerf everything" and perhaps worst events than this time around but DEVs and management need to know this is cheating their customers for what they paid for not only in money but also in time.

I hope they do listen to their playerbase rather than just applied nerfs indiscriminately but not holding my breath.

Wooo, getting a bit hot in this thread. I can think of nerfs and buffs in all kinds of games where a big impact is felt. I've never "quit" a game for it. I think it's just the nature of the evolution of a game. I don't think it breaks these consoles or makes them useless. I'm sure they thought long and hard about if these impacts would benefit or hinder the game play.

One of the biggest nerfs/changes I've seen from this game is when they re-tooled the the entire weapon and skill system. That's when experimental weapons were introduced to escorts. Because after that an escort absolutely needed the extra weapon to keep it a viable ship. Talk about change game play. Before cannons felt in accordance with your ships speed, after cannons don't even finish a cycle before the ship has passed its target. Huge difference in performance of those ships and they way you fly them. I was confused and escorts now felt like you could afk in between heavy cannon cycle times. I switched to beams, which now feel way more powerful than they used to. Still shoot cannons every now and then though.

I think it's particularly 'ethically questionable' (to stay polite) to put a ship in the Mudd store, knowing full-well you're about to nerf it. They reached a new low, far as I'm concerned. And you guys have EVERY right to demand a refund.

Just go to youtube and search "STO Console nerfs" and you'll find plenty of similar videos. Nobody is happy about it right now, but sci/epg players least of all.

I would have loved to have seen the alleged 'flame/troll'. There's a good chance I would have agreed with it all.

Didn't know it was a video. :) Thx. Will go look for it.

It's an issue of trust and accountability.

I've been playing since the game was subscription only. I used to play a lot more often, now I mostly just log in for the events and play other games the rest of the year. However, I still spend at least a couple hundred dollars a year on zen to pick up stuff for new builds or things I may have missed.

To me, the most notable of these changes is the neutronic eddies console, specifically because it was unchanged for 2 years (from the time it was acquired in the event for players who were online then, I wasn't) and then 2-3 months after they put it on the mudd market for 17,000 zen ($170 USD) they hit it with a heavy nerf. (Flaming, trolling comments moderated out. - BMR)

That has killed all trust and confidence in any future purchases.

The biggest nerf was severely reducing the size of the Borg thingamajig on the flying saucer. :(

The only game I kinda left because of a 'nerf' was Heroes of the Storm when they changed how my favourite character played. I don't know if it really was a nerf or not but it plays too differently now to how I liked it.

PS: I agree with how the tone of the forums have reverted somewhat to how oppressive they were in the past when I stopped visiting because of that.

I get your point. I hear ya. You're not the only one, I've spent money on stuff that has been hit with the nerf hammer. I know it makes ya feel kinda violated. (lol I said violated) Like someone robbed your gear. You gotta roll with it, it's the nature of gaming. Even more so in a game "as a service" model. I've made some poor choices of how much money was spent. (thats forsure) Which is why Mudd's Market scares the hades outta me. I feel dirty just clicking the button to see whats in there.
