"With the upcoming return of the Phoenix Prize Pack Event, we are excited to unveil a number of changes and updates to both the prizes it will allow players to obtain, and the overall structure of the pack."
I do not agree with taking out the Tier 5 ships from the Phoenix box. I missed getting the Tier 5 Risian Corvette since I was not in Star Trek Online at that time and every Phoenix Prize Pack event am trying to get it on my tactical character without success. I also will miss out on getting that Admiralty card. Please keep those ships there and move them down a tier, do not take them away. Or put these Tier 5 ships as offerings in the Ship Vendor. Thanks.
Good too see new stuff is being added! I have already unlocked all of the new things, but for those who haven't, it's nice that these things are added.
I'm not sure about things from the C-store being added to the pack. On the one hand it may devalue those items a bit, on the other hand it's nice to have an option to get something on one toon at lower prices if you're only interested in having it on one specific toon.
The better odds are nice, though I'm not sure it's a good thing that you now get fewer points from upgrades. so they were much better compared to other upgrades than intended? Does that really matter? I don't bother with other upgrades because I either have to buy them with EC (which I usually need more for other stuff than dilithium) or make them myselves, which is a boring process to go through.
It would have been better to make the other upgrades more interesting. Though I guess that should also be a part of a crafting revamp, to make creating stuff more interesting in general.
The option to purchase Experimental Ship Upgrade Tokens during the Phoenix Event will remain, but their availability and pricing structures have changed in order to account for the shifting of prize tiers, and the modifications made to prize odds. Players will now have the option of purchasing a single Experimental Ship Upgrade Token at the following price points:
5x Ultra-Rare Prize Tokens
20x Very-Rare Prize Tokens
100x Rare Prize Tokens
Reminder that you may purchase as many of these as you like while the Phoenix Event is active, but they will only be available for a Limited Time!
This is also a nice change, because it finally makes lower tier upgrades more valuable for a lot of players I suppose.
Hopefully they'll also put in character/elite upgrade tokens in there.
Nerf to Phoenix upgrades. I welcome it... but ya there is going to be a lot of tears.
It is a nerf but then it isn't or just a minor nerf. The odds for higher tier phoenix token will be upped so that maybe you get more phoenix for your dillithium. What is a bit more painful I think is the experiment ship upgrade token however they do give you a chance to buy those with lower grade tokens now even though that may be quiet a few more.
I hope they thought this through and didn't halfassed it but experience from the past tell me a different story. Let's see how it works out.
C-Store Inc. is still looking for active members on the fed side. If you don't have a fleet feel free to contact me in game @stegi.
Firstly, new prizes are coming at every single prize tier! In addition to the first new Tier-6 Starship to grace this feature in quite some time, we’re excited to announce that the type of rewards being added here are no longer exclusive to those formerly seen as Event Rewards, but now also encompass former-Microtransactions, limited-time Giveaways, and more! By expanding into these reward categories, we are opening the door to more exciting additions in future updates!
IN WITH THE NEW
Here are the new additions we will be making to the Phoenix Prize Pack Redemption Stores! The tier of many items in the boxes are changing, so please read on for more details on why these items are placed where they are.
Holographic Leeta Tactical Officer (choice of DS9-era Dabo Outfit, or modern Mirror Admiral appearance)
Holographic Geordi La Forge Engineering Officer (FED only)
Very Rare:
Costume Unlock: Kelvin Admiral Uniform (FED only)
Costume Unlock: Racing Uniforms (FED only)
23rd Century Advanced Environmental Suit (FED only)
Rare:
Seleya Ceremonial Lirpa (now upgradeable with this update!)
Kri’stak Blade (now upgradeable with this update!)
“NX-“ Ship Registry Prefix Unlock
(Note: As with other existing Phoenix prizes, all of the above are character-only, not account-wide.)
That's it for additions? Not exactly a large nor exciting amount of 'new' stuff, particularly given the widening of of what is allowed to be added.
We have decided to retire all of the Tier-5 Starships currently available at the Ultra-Rare Prize Tier.
With only one exception, these starships all have already received updated variants at Tier-6 that are available in various places throughout the game, and should therefore have been retired some time ago. Their inclusion at such a high prize tier was also misleading toward less-established players, regarding their relative value to the modern era of starships.
So, the Voth Dreadnought will be effectively unobtainable now?
We will be automatically replacing any existing Prize Tokens that players already possess with one from the next higher tier, with the exception of Ultra-Rare Tokens of which we will instead double your count.
Oof. Anyone that was saving back Ultra-Rare Tokens (to get a Voth Dreadnought or a Jem Escort to unlock hangar pets on a new toon) got the short end of the stick. That *was* a premium prize tier that was very hard to get a hold of, and now it's effectively crunched down to 2x of what was Very Rare.
Phoenix Tech Upgrades purchased from this date forward will experience a reduction in their effectiveness. A close look at their usage stats, as well as a game-wide examination of their economic impact, has led us to conclude that such an adjustment is not only needed, but also long overdue.
Tech Points contribution 38,400 (down from 51,200)
(rest stays the same for new tokens, old keep tech points)
Both an annoying change and long overdue. Would've been handy back when crafting was relevant and I was crafting upgrades for trade. Probably still not enough to get crafted Upgrades lower than Experimental to be relevant.
I hope it does help the Dil economy at least somewhat, but I doubt it'll put it back to being below 500Dil/Zen on it's own.

On its own I don't see it doing that no. Its going to be one of many things that will have to work together. But hopefully what it will do is decrease the wait time on Zen orders at least. The more we get things that do that, eventually we will start getting below 500/1. But again its going to take many things working together to do that.

The bright side is that I may finally get that Samsar for my Kobali character, though I am a bit leery about the rest (especially the X-upgrade tokens).

I think Borticus is wise enough to realize, that by not only reducing 1 level of doubling the downgrade process, and removing Uncommon tokens it will effectively greatly reduce the # of phoenix boxes we get by perhaps 50%. I mean we will see more Rare tokens now, and far more Very Rare (old Rare) and we may still get dozen's of the Ultra's now, yet the chance remains the same for Epic tokens. Also you only get 1 T6x upgrade not 2 from before so also a 50% reduction.
Most who purchased upgrades converted down from Very Rare at 2:1 for Rare, then 2:1 from Rare to Uncommon or 4:1 now that's reduced to mostly 2:1 (or 50%) less. As most (not all) will still only downgrade from Very Rare to Rare, so that's effective 50% less Upgrade tokens; while also slightly reducing the Tech Points contribution 38,400 (down from 51,200) currently. So that's 76,800 during 2x not 102,400 which is also 25% less Tech Points, if most choose to not downgrade Ultra's or far fewer.

Some may Convert Ultra down as a balancing force to the reduced tier; yet that only works if you don't need T6x upgrades, and ships are always being added. Also now you'll only get 1 rather than 2 like before, yet you'll also likely get more Ultra's now, yet will take 5 Ultra to get 1. Yet you can also buy T6x with Very Rare, or Rare too so may result in more T6x for some; but to do so you'll sacrifice Phoenix Upgrades if you decide that path.
I hope it does help the Dil economy at least somewhat, but I doubt it'll put it back to being below 500Dil/Zen on it's own.

This might actually be a WISE move on his part, yet like you I also don't think this will make as big as a difference without something else! We'll have to wait and see, similar to what others said.
Still I would have thought it wiser, to rethink expanding Tier III Holdings out to IV one every year or two; as that could be done far easier, without major map updates other than a few visual refreshments. It also could be done over 10+ years as balancing force, while also expanding options to buy at Tier IV Holdings as well.
Most of this is good, but I'm not happy about the upgrade nerf. Guess I'll be dumping all my dil into Phoenix boxes tonight to stock up on the good ones.
Nerf to Phoenix upgrades. I welcome it... but ya there is going to be a lot of tears.

Also now you'll only get 1 rather than 2 like before, though you can get them with Very Rare or Rare; but that also take away from your upgrades.
So most will either have to decide to downgrade their Ultra tokens, to make up for removing of Uncommon; yet they will also have to give up more T6x upgrades to do so.
This might actually be a WISE move on his part, as I try to remain positive and constructive in most things. I'd like to think this will have a positive impact on the DZE.
Still I think, they may need to rethink expanding Tier III Holdings out to IV one every year or two; as that could be done far easier, without major map updates just a few refreshed updates, and slightly expand options to buy things at those holdings as well over time. That could easily be a balancing force for 10+ years, if they choose to consider it.
While I'm trying to remain positive about the changes, I still think they need to rethink a few things...
Exactly right now a typical open for upgrades might be something like 6 greens. 3 blues and 1 purple. So 16 upgrades... and going forward we will have to see but I doubt Ultra rare are going to drop often if you open 10. So say you get 7 blues and 3 purples.... now you get 13 upgrades that are not as good.
I'm guessing on numbers but unless purples pop as often as blues its going to be a reduction in the total number of upgrades you get for sure.
PS to be clear I am on board with a nerf bat for Phoenix. They where always way too good. Crafted upgrades ? No one has used those other then new players who don't know any better for a long time. It was time for the nerf bat. But I agree it won't just be the reduction in effect... their cost in Dill looks like its going up... even at 50/50 blue to purple the old 3 stage break down to green turned out more.
@husanakx
You got my first post, before I added some quotes from others to reply.
Still while the thread seems to imply, we may see more higher quality upgrades. I don't see the Epic's drop chance improving that much if at all.
Note: The stream did confirm Epic tokens have slightly increased drop chance.
His statement we'll see higher quality tokens, refers mostly to the Rare, and Very Rare, yet also Ultra's too. Still with 5 Ultra's to get 1 T6x is likely an improvement for new players, given you'll have more options to get them. Still they'll have to decide to not downgrade Ultra's to make up for the missing Tier. So sometimes with result in 50% less Phoenix Upgrades if you need T6x.
The idea of upgrading Fleet Tier III Holdings to Tier IV, which was something I previously thought have a better influence on the DZE. Regardless it about everyone making difficult choices, to help the DZE. Still some will donate DIL to Fleet Projects, especially if Tier IV holdings offer something new and exciting!
So I can only hope Borticus is correct, and results in a better overall Long Term effect for the DZE.
We have all the information now at our fingertips on the conversions of one item to another.
First off, the cost for a T6X Token is now going to be 10x more than before. Whereas, it used to be 2 T6X for a UR Token it will now be 10 URs for them. From 1332 Zen for a UR Tokens to 133 Zen. This is based upon the three-pack of 2000 Zen. Do with that what you will.
Now, from Mudd's Bundles we know that 2 Tier 6 100% off Tokens are the same as 1 Epic Phoenix Prize Token and 9 T6X Tokens . So 6,000 Zen for the two ship Tokens, or the 9 T6X Tokens (3 × 3 2000 Zen Bundles). This provides the equivalent of 6000 Zen for the Epic Phoenix Tokens.
So the Token equivalents for a potential upgrade between Tokens Tiers 5o a higher level Token could be:
5 Rare = 1 Very Rare
4 Very Rare = 1 UR
45 UR = 1 Epic
6.66 Zen per Rare, 33.3 per VR, 133.2 per UR, and 6000 per Epiv.
You can apply 500 Dilitium per Zen for the time being if you want to convert there.

They're saying better odds, but if they're not giving you the odds for you to actually see and compare that statement is pretty pointless imho. I've spent a lot of dill and still no epic token. Should I now believe I do have a better chance of getting an epic which I do really want. Not trying to stir the pot, just looking for a honest answer. I mean real money is being spent for this

"INCREASED ODDS
Alongside these new additions to the box, as well as additional evaluations we have made regarding the Phoenix Prize Pack’s economic impact and intended valuations, we will be increasing the odds of receiving all prize tiers above the lowest available. Thus, the act of opening a Phoenix Prize Pack should feel more rewarding and exciting."

b4 this nerf i used to buy phoenix boxs for upgrades, now i guess is not an option. still could be useful if item upgrade was only about tech points, but since there is also chances involved even after you get to XV, just no. not going to buy this box at all.
There goes any chance I had to get at least one Kobali Samsar ship. We can't get any improvements in the tailor, but they take away some actually good things and leave all the bugs in the game. Where are the developer's priorities anyway? What are we supposed to tell people interested in the game? "Do you like bugs? Because they leave tons of bugs. Anything cool they usually take out after a while."
So a lot of upgrades I had stored in my bank for years (since I haven't had anything to upgrade yet) will now lose their effectiveness simply because I haven't bothered to use them yet.
Current Phoenix upgrades will remain unchanged... with a name change to legacy Phoenix upgrade.
Only newly earned tokens will have the new numbers.

Kobali isn't going anywhere. It will still be in the ultra tier. They are adding the T'pau to the gold tier that is the only change for gold. They claim the drop rate will be better but we'll have to wait and see on that.
The ships removed are the very old T5 lockbox ships in the Ultra Rare category right now. Pretty much all those ships are long since outdated. Some people did still buy the Jem for hanger pet unlocks IF they didn't already own a Jem bug. I guess some may have also bought the voth ship to complete console sets on other voth sets... BUT it was the T5 version of the console and I don't think many people really play Voth ships anyway. The T5 UR rewards where really unsold for the most part.

Seems the chance of Epic dropping has slightly increased, Jeremy said it's not significant but perhaps better than it was. I also believe he said Ultra may drop similar to Very Rare previously, yet they address that by requiring 5 Ultra's for 1 T6x upgrade now rather than 2. Yet with the reduction of one tier it (may) reduce the # of Phoenix upgrades by 50%, unless people fully commit to downgrade Ultra's. I suspect that may also encourage more to buying the T6x upgrades long term as well.
They plan or hope, this will also make Superior, or Experimental more Viable upgrade path as well; so this changes encourages helping the DZE economy as well. We may also see updates to Phoenix every 6 months or so, and some previous items in Mudd's may also appear in Phoenix but as Per Character unlock as well. Those who purchased Account-Unlocks would still however have them. This is just a new way for people to expand options for their Character, but those additions may be 6-7 more months out.
As of tomorrows versions yes they will,
But any that have previously been bought and stored before this patch will not lose their level of tech points..
Existing versions of these Tech Upgrades that players have already purchased will not be altered, other than having their names changed to include the term “Classic” and their quality upgraded to Epic (Gold). Future purchases will yield a Phoenix Universal Tech Upgrade with the following change.
