And that's why the choice pack itself should be sellable and not the ships that come out of it - then people can pick whatever the hell they want out of it instead of relying on popularity to drive supply.
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.

The Force is united within me.

I could not possibly agree more.
This is a change that Cryptic absolutely MUST make.. Now!
Scarcity increases price. Try to buy a Franklin class.. if you can find one, they're insanely expensive. The 3 or 4 people that actually want one have to pay out the nose. They cost far more then a more desirable ship, you pretty much have to have a deal in place with someone that if they win, they will pick it just to sell to you.
Actually, the Franklin/Freedom-class is a bad example now as, like with all promo ships that got a limited lobi store release, its exchange price got sliced by half.

Sounds like it would be a great change for us players.
Of course, the beancounting department could have determined that the uneven popularity of prize ships actually means they can occassionally sell more Zen/Keys that way. They don't care if you buy 400 keys before you want the most powerful ship or you want it because you really love the design or just collect everything. They just want that money, and if the current way is getting them more of it...
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

disagree. at what cost then does this pack go on for sale? 500mil? 1bil?
i dislike the gambling this game has, but not all ships are worth x amount, as indicated by the prices on the exchange.
so while i get what you say, and find it a nice way to allow others a choice, but at what cost?
The price would be dictated by demand just like everything else. Promo ships are very expensive to 'win' and usually go around the 1.5 Billion Mark which is about what I would expect the box to cost. You can't touch a promo ship right now for less then that and they only go up from that point.
The difference is that everyone winning promos for sale would now just be selling the box which means supply increases dramatically. I would expect this to bring a slight price reduction, though it's still going to be well north of 1 Billion which is fair. The only thing the sellable choice box does is let the buyer actually get what they want. It has no downside even for Cryptic.
I really like the design. One of the better DSC designs (which I don’t universally hate but they’re far more hit-and-miss than the other shows).
I’ve had a promo box gathering dust for a while and will finally use it for this ship.
I don’t have any issues with the negative space or detached sections. That disbelief is no harder to suspend for me than for warp drive or transporters, and no more vulnerable a design than pylons.
Or it would result in the price of the box rising to the price of the most valuable ship in the box if they do it with a Ferengi-like mindset.
this is what i was talking about
It's fine, if you believe that, but history teaches otherwise.
Quantity drives prices down, if every ship on the market was now a choice box, then yes.. people would absolutely initially list the boxes at the highest possible price.. that's how the market works.
Then the next person comes along and prices just a bit lower to undercut person 1 and this continues until the market settles. There would be nothing stopping anyone from listing any item at the highest possible price but it doesn't mean people will pay that much. This is why you don't see people selling Master Keys for 1 Billion EC.. the market has settled on the value. You can list at any price you want, but unless you use the actual value it won't sell.
I am basing my opinion on how the market works and how it has worked for years. Items with a high supply always see the price drop.. always. What the sellable box does is prevent people from gouging on rare ships. It equalizes the rarity of all promo ships and gives them all a median value.
Sellable boxes is an all around win for everyone. You don't have to worry about it though because anytime an idea comes up that is just an obvious win/win Cryptic ignores it.
Why do I see the saucer blue middle looking like a football stadium, with bleachers, press boxes and private viewing rooms lol
Now that you mention it, it does look like stadium )
The blue glow in the center hole is not normally there btw, according to the livestream it is from one of the rep-set deflectors that the person showing it forgot to turn the visuals off on, and apparently he made the photo before the livestream happened.
After testing it on Tribble, I can safely say that performance-wise, it's NAH, just kidding, of course it's not on Tribble for testing, nor do I expect it to be at least weeks or months after its release.

But your point still stands.

And me I thought he meant the Hawker Typhoon.
I forgot about that.. thanks.

Smart policy.. it's the games true 'No Win Scenario.'
