Character Slot With the approach of the new recruitment event approaching, as is the case of those who have already reached the limit of 55 captains (57 for lifetime), will I be forced to delete a captain to make room, or will they increase the limit?
they always increase the hard limit whenever they add a free character slot for whatever reason (which has mostly been for accompanying recruitment events, to make sure everyone can experience those events)
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.

Yeah only reason why they wouldn't give a new character slot is that database couldn't handle it but otherwise you can assume you'll get a character slot for "free" with the new recruitment event.

I understand that they will probably give 1 new slot, but the doubt remains that they will increase the slot limit to something like 60 ... or even 75? I still have a lot of characters to create lol
Usually the maximum slot cap is raised one-for-one with the free slot they give for some events (like they do with new recruitment events for example) though they sometimes do it for more than one iirc. If the cap is 55 at the moment then most likely it will be raised to 56.
It was some oddball number instead of 55 when I started playing STO so I know for sure that they do raise the cap now and then though they are capricious enough that it is not possible to say with certainty if they will do it this time (but the odds are good that they will).
not to be "that guy" but what on earth do you people do that you've used up 50+ character slots? Aside from the 3-4 toons I actually use, most of the rest of them are dilithium shills. I really don't know how you folks keep up with them all.

I have 20+ chars.. i use them all on rotation.. they are different playstiles, different ships.. not a single char of mine have the same ship (or traits for that matter).. i dunno, i kinda like that they are different

I have about thirty characters spread between two accounts. Most are quite different from each other, but one exception is that I duplicated my original character from 2016 when it was iffy whether my original account was salvageable, so to differentiate the two characters after I started using both accounts I made the original one the regular universe one and her duplicate a harder, edgier mirror universe version of her (they are Romulan so the difference is not as great as it is for Terrans but it is enough to give each a different feel).
Anyway, the trick to having that many is to play whichever ones are most interesting at the moment and just swap around (I usually play one from each account on any given day, sometimes a few more if I have the time and I am in the mood to sit at the computer that long.
Years ago when I began playing STO I just had 3 Feds & 3 KDFs, then that expanded to 6 more when LoR released with 3 Rom-Feds & 3 Rom-KDFs for quite awhile.
To now that has somehow more than doubled, but not all of them are played weekly besides DOFFing & Admiralty.
As with most things there's pros & cons to playing multiple toons.

sorry, but I don’t understand how with so much in the game can someone be left with only 3-4 toons, each toon of mine has his unique ship, his unique traits, and each one is a different way of playing, which enriches me the game, game since launch, and I can't imagine staying 10 years with the same character, and believe me I started this topic because I have imagination and the game has possibilities to create many more characters .... (my next one will be renegade son of Gowron ...) not to mention the possibilities that will be opened when the barriers fall.
Even with Cryptic's past recruitment events, some of which Cryptic refuses to re-run for newer players or players that missed, for the optimal amount of goodies earnable a player should have 3 from the Delta, 1 from the Gamma, & 1 from the Temporal, then for long-long-time players at least an additional 1 but more than likely 2 or 3 so I calculate 8 being a probable total minimal number of toons for long-long-time players.

Well some of us didn't do all those things. Life and breaks happen. Not saying I'm upset for missing them or that they won't rerun, but it would be nice. 😉
I totally agree. I think it would be beneficial if Cryptic re-ran each recruitment event once, maybe twice a year, just to entice new players &/or new character creation.
But I think there's still a couple of Cryptic big-wigs that are in-luv with "exclusivity" so I fear if the old recruitments return it will be monetized somehow. I'd be impressed if Cryptic created a recruitment, again once or twice a year, arrange a NPC to offer the mechanic so we players could choose the recruitment we want. Oh well :-(

8? 8 what? Characters? Character slots? 8 additional character slots or 8 character slots total?
"so I calculate 8 being a probable total minimal number of toons," & just to clarify for you "toons" means characters, but then again if you can make a chracter you have a character slot don't you?
Every one of my toons has maxed out all reps and has level 15 (or higher) in all R&D schools. (for the traits).
Dang impressive, over-achiever!!! :-)
I've never even touched upon the R&D crafting in all these years, when I was preparing to once is when Cryptic took away Memory Alpha lol & nowadays it just seems like a resource-sink versus the Exchange everytime I reconsider it.

This exactly. Captains 50 is just craziness...

Creating 1 whenever you feel like it is probably the best approach if someone is so inclined.
I agree. That's how I create characters too.
True, my latest oe was a discovery char with the legendary Walker.. i like that ship, so, why not?
