We are coming up to a week anniversary on not being able to log in.
Please Update patch note to say.
We patched the game to make it so a percentage of players can't play anymore due to a new unique feature that dumps a steaming load on some of our player base. This will help with game stability as there will be fewer players putting a load on our servers though you might experience longer wait times on TFOs. We compensated for that by making the new TFOs so bug ridden and horrible (read player feedback section) as it will take longer to complete them. Anticipated wait time for this new DX bug to be repaired is........... unknown because we are clueless and wont roll back this TRIBBLE patch.
Roll back this Patch till you figure out what the issue is, its not that difficult of a concept. If we did something that breaks the game undo it. Test and make sure it works then release. TEST TEST TEST.
All in favor of a roll back of House shattered or at least rename it to OUTHOUSE SHATTERED. That way we can get the flavor/aroma in our head of what we think of this latest patch.
Problem still not solved. Why is there no communication about this issue?
Because
1. They have not a clue how to fix it.
2. They trying to figure out if it is worth fixing.
3. They calculating if this is hitting their bottom line. If not then no need to fix it. Will take about 4 weeks for them to decide as they need to run the October revenue numbers at the end of the month.
Problem still not solved. Why is there no communication about this issue?
They are communicating in the DirectX support thread in the PC, Network and other Issues section of the forums. AmbassadorKael recently asked if users having the problem were using Arc or Steam to play Star Trek Online to narrow down the issue. Please give that data there to help him out. Thanks.
you again? next you will keep defending another TRIBBLE up that screws over more long time players like this one. these constant mistakes ,if they are even mistakes are getting real old really quick and by the way ALL my other games work fine on ultra settings just this one has a graphics error. I wonder why ?

rc, I am not defending this mess up in the patch. I am saying that they are communicating in that thread and to please give that information. This is even in known issues they are trying to get it fixed. Stop ganging up on me just because I have a different point of view. Would you like it if I did what you are doing to me whether online or in person? Why do you hate me so much?
Card: GeForce 9500 GT (11 years old with the latest driver (4 years old))
OS: Windows 7 Home 64 bit
I'm thinking it might be time for an upgrade. Maybe something in a Feature Level 11 compatible with a driver released just this week.
I have been needing to upgrade for some time. So, I installed new video card with latest driver, and now STO is working fine.
Used a GeForce GT 710 with Driver version 456.71 released on 10/7/20.
Look for Feature: Microsoft DirectX 12 API (feature level 11_0) Support.
Total cost was under $60. I know folks who have spent way more to play this game.
Also, this 9 year old desktop is running DirectX 11.
I hope this helps.
First up guys, keep it civil or I will be busting out the mod sword. I get it folks are upset. They don't like it anymore than you guys do, however it takes time to fix things properly. A break of this kind is not as simple as flipping switches. I also sent them a bunch of data I collected from various sources myself. Certain video cards I have noticed are coming up quite often where as other cards from that range are not. The big question is what's causing those specific cards to take a dump. They figure out what's causing those cards to take a dump, they can formulate a fix. They're working on it and it will get fixed. Believe me I wish this was as simple as flipping a switch, but it's not.

Thank you for providing some input on the issue, as it has been lacking considering the severity of the issue. Couple of questions/comments:
1. How can this issue be a card failure issue, considering the game never even loads, nor starts? It appears to be an issue associated more with the game launcher. As soon as we enter our password, we get an (erroneous) error message box that says "blah, blah, directX requirements not met..." Then, the launcher just unceremoniously closes itself.
2. Some communication as to the actual nature of the issue, and some technical details would be greatly appreciated. If, as you suspect, and the (erroneous) error code claims, the issue is related to something related to our [customer] hardware/software, then some technical input on the issue could help us [customers] search for fixes, or workarounds from our end.
Alright guys. Just checking on something in relation to this. Please post the feature levels DxDiag outputs when you run it. For guidance, the feature level is on the "display" tab, on the right hand side under headings "drivers"

My feature levels are identical to the levels posted by the user at the beginning of this thread. 10_1...etc...

As I mentioned in the other thread, I suspect a fat-fingered edit while patching in the Epic launcher that changed a ">=" into a "==" when testing the dx feature level. Since people have mentioned other Epic launched games have the issue too, it may even be in one of their supplied DLLs... which could make it awkward for Cryptic to fix.
So I have been doing research on the matter and here is the summary. In all cases Direct12 was installed and the operating system is Windows 10
1. Using Intel HD Graphics 3000 - feature level 10_1 through to 9_1: DRIVER ERROR MESSAGE
2. Using Intel HD Graphics 615 - feature level 12_1 through to 9_1: GAME LOADS AND PLAYS
3. Using Microsoft Basic Display Driver - feature level 12_1 through to 9_1: GAME LOADS BUT IS UNPLAYABLE DUE TO LAG.
My takeaway is that the game now requires feature level 12_0 and higher to work, since those who have been unable to play have feature level 11_1 or lower.
I could be wrong but I have done quite a bit of research on this one, so feel free to test it out and update if you get different results.
NB: to use the Microsoft Basic Display Driver, I disabled the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver and Windows 10 defaulted to the Basic Driver.
The DirectX version you have on your OS and the DirectX version your GPU supports are two different things. An in-game friend of mine got the unsupported video card error and decided to buy a DX12 capable GPU for only £40 - and he can play again with no issues. ;-)
I'm not sure this is an issue that can be "fixed". At least not without downgrading some of the game's visuals. (??)
A friend has "NVidia Quadro FX 3800" for his video card, on his desktop pc.
Before the House Shattered patch the game worked perfectly and now he is getting the same error. His computer system is suppose to still be able to run the game, as he ran a system game check from the "system requirements lab" website.
These are the things he has so far tried:
1. He has tired verifying the game files 18 times, with the last one downloading some files.
2. He has changed the desktop resolution.
3. He checked for windows updates, and DirectX 12 updates but everything was up to date.
3. He tried reinstalling his video card drivers.
4. He has tried reinstalling the game from scratch
He is still getting the error.
Is there anything else that I can suggest to him that could fix this error?

The problem with this analysis is that I have Windows 10, have a feature level 11_1 through to 9_1 am using an Intel HD Graphics Family (Integrated Graphics) card, have the most recent Windows 10 updates, and am not having this problem. Those users have higher Intel cards or non-Intel than I do and are having problems. I do still have the error at the top of launcher that says the application is Not Responding but then it loads into the game normally. Other people have that and it usually crashes.
The most annoying thing about this situation (apart from not being able to play the game), is the fact that there is little to no feedback or communication as to what they are doing about the issue. Even a regular update to say " Rest assured we are still currently working on a fix for this issue and appreciate your patience whilst we are doing so" would really help in giving us some confidence that things are being done and were not just being brushed under the carpet.
@ambassadorkael#6946 we need and want information about the progress you made, it´s about time. Three times the patch notes said that that is known issue and that issue is more important for your player base playing on PC than some other thing.
I agree I understand that they need new stuff all the time. But fix what you got wrong. New and shiny is cool but fix under the hood. Will keep the game going for all .I miss playing with everything else going on in the world this was my fall back
With this info I hope to help, but the question looks weird to me. I'm a user who play a game, not a it specialist. Imo cryptic shoujd have a backup from the working setting before they update the game. Look in the backup and make it work?

They Should have one and if they do they either don't want to roll back for some reason or they didn't make one which would make no sense but who cares I'm going to play warframe while I wait or maybe rewatch tng for the eleventh time... anyways. This problem could last along time.

If you look at Kael's message, you will note it is a known issue. Nothing there about the latest fix addressing this.

Windows 10 Pro (2004)
Geforce GT 240M 1GB - support DX11 feature set 10.1
However, gets flagged as incompatible.
This suggests that the game is failing to read the DirectX Feature Level properly.
