I suppose they wouldn't want to undermine sales of the gamble-to-get T'laru by putting a 3k zen romulan carrier into the cstore. I guess I better get saving...

    Oh look 1000 lobi/free t6 ship event...

    Another promo

Still, I have a box from the 10th anniversary freebie to sell so thats one good thing

Even so, you really do need to stop constantly releasing promo ships Cryptic - its was one thing when it was every so often with many c-store releases in between now its all the time with no c-store releases (or ones that are not bundles meant to extract every zen possible from whale class players...seriously, why am I going to buy 10 ships if I only have one or two alts?)

As to this CBS excuse...sorry, that rather has stopped washing with me as there are a -lot- of ships in sto that were either freebies/c-store that do not -exactly- fit the ip standard and so should be 'promo' yet were not

Now I'm not stupid enough to not realise gambling is the easiest way to turn a profit for minimal effort and you might be trying to squeeze as much out of the gamble whales as you can before it becomes legally inviable but as you can see from above (and likely below) and more importantly Reddit and Twitter (as you seem to like them more than the official forums) ; its not doing your reputation much good

I may get it just to see how they made a carrier that's not a carrier and with it's ability and trait how many pets can it have out? Specially on an op captain. That can befaw and protect his assets? Will they last the entire battle or are they timed? And what is their range? Do they remain after the ship leaves the field of play such as a battle zone? And if so wouldn't players simply fly around with it in swarm mode in open space then enter tfo's with large swarms of them?

So many questions that seem very odd. But generally the answers and reality is very very very underwhelming. Wish it would have been MW/Intel instead of command/Intel I just have no real use for command skills. The ship would have been a beast.

And also I understand section 31 is an intelligence arm but they are also a military arm. Why do they not have a 5 Tac MW ship? Wouldn't that also be in the cards for this organization? That built the Vengeance? I have a few more billion left in assets so I will get it since I have a section 31 character and flying the flight deck cruiser with section 31 paint seems dated but will see and wait till the week after next with the next release of a promo ship to see if it is worth getting.
Even god rested. No work ethic.

The "swarm mode" stuff is pretty vague.. as is often the case with new special abilities. Typically those special abilities turn out to be very underwhelming.

They did a decent job with the Discovery-era Constitution, giving it two hangars of pets that look like little swarms... I'm surprised they didn't do that with this ship since it was the carrier-counterpart to the Enterprise during the relevant battle. They didn't even name the trait "Count Again" which was the obvious reference.

What they really should do is update tribble with new ships at the same time that they update the main servers so that people can go feel new ships out. While I'm sure they think not doing so increases the likelihood of purchases (or box uses or what not) the buyers remorse on a disappointing ship is more likely to reduce future sales from people who feel duped.

Is the ship production line fully saturated in federation yet? Can Dominion, Klingon, and Romulan get a little something?

Well, with the Sect 31 Drone Battlecruiser announcement I went back to re-watch the Discovery S2 finale & even though it's just based off of the animated gif I'm still impressed with it's looks & how well Cryptic seems to have captured it. I think I even enjoyed the 2-part finale a bit more this viewing.

Preaching to the choir, Tidego... I've been KDF from the moment my fed reached the level to unlock it - Even the ships like the corvette and such work better on the KDF as you can easily claim the captain pillaged it unlike the feds whom you just have to handwave away that for some reason the federation allowed a pleasure cruiser to fight toe to toe with a borg tac cube

    Pillage and strife ftw.

I think the swarm mode ought to have hp to it's little fighters, though the gif seemed to show more of a cloud of intangible blury bulkheads than actual little ships. I'm concerned that targeting using 'double alpha' isn't something that devs could bother developing.

    Have to wait and see.

I like to tell myself the KDF ships are so battle tested at this point they can't be bothered with developing anything new. Unlike the federation peta'qs who always need something new to stay afloat ;)

Perhaps klingon ships would also need repairs and upgrades if there were more people commanding them, staying in battle, and fighting to the death.

Yeah...Romulan and Dominion says hi. At least you all not getting ships JUST happened. We have had this problem for YEARS now.

For years you say....before roms/dom I got to watch feds get I want to say 10 new ships in a row before we got to sniff anything, and I think it was the first lockbox ship. Got to see the feds get the first 5/2 escort (andorion t5) AND the first flight deck escort (akira) while we got squat. KDF not getting ships while the feds do is a tale as old as time...

Federation ships are a thing of inevitability. everyone joins the federation in the end, even the klingon empire.

Wait a minute, if there's no Klingons going "back home" with complaints about how "blank sucks and needs an upgrade/refit", due to that whole "die honorably in battle" thing, what's the driver to, you know, actually find out what needs upgrading, especially when Klingon Bean (or bloodworm) Counters tell survivors "You won. How can that suck?" and withhold the upgrade/research monies...

I won't commit to believing that statement is 100% accurate, but still a valid comment that seems to be a growing concern & chasm between Cryptic & us players imo.

I think it is a nice touch to put in in both the R&D and the Doff boxes since I have no use for the R&D ones. Normally I would get a few Doff boxes for this (though I never get anything useful out of them but the doffs themselves) but this month is impossibly tight budget wise.

At least this particular ship is not one I am particularly fond of anyway, it looks fairly cool in an abstract way but there is nothing about it that really says Star Trek and I would be more likely to choose a different ship if I ever do get a ship out of one of those boxes.

I thought I'd give a quick review of the unique aspects of the Section 31 Command Battlecruiser after having tried it out on Tribble. The fact that I did it on tribble is a testament to my reluctance to actually commit to the ship - I was disappointed to find out it was not a carrier as they'd made the Discovery-Era Constitution, but I wanted to see what its swarm mode was like since there weren't many details.

Rather than blather on about the subjective utility of the number of slots or seating (you can read their specs afterall) I'm going to just focus on the unique abilities of the ship.

Dark Mode - This is basically just a non-battle cloak with a different look. The animation is inconsistent with the other section 31 ship, folding the nacelles (to seemingly INcrease the physical signature of the ship) when engaging dark mode. Section 31 science destroyer does not fold nacelles for dark mode - it folds nacelles for Tactical Mode. Both ships look pretty stupid when they do it - I wish they hadn't latched onto that from the one short scene in Discovery where it happens. At least it looks a bit less stupid than the science destroyer when it folds.

Swarm Mode - this is what people actually want to know about. Certainly it's what I wanted to know about. Swarm mode creates a cloud of little drones around the ship which, according to the announcement, fire at nearby things and break away to attack larger ships. Very vague.

    Point Defense Aspect:
    - Fires small volley of phaser damage bolts at targets within maybe 3.5-4km range every few seconds.
    - Does benefit from +Phaser damage though the damage is trivial regardless (maybe ~100).
    - Does NOT auto-kill projectiles.
    - Attacks and cooldown on attack appear to be per-target, so it can fire on a lot of targets at once.
    - Attacks all enemy targets... that are close enough.

    Drone Attack Aspect:
    - Range seems to be 6km
    - Only attacks ships and such, not fighters or projectiles.
    - Makes a goofy photon torpedo noise each time they "break off from the swarm" to attack..
    - ..which is appropriate, because they're just torpedoes, in essence.
    - Happens randomly but often when you're in range of enemies.
    - Can happen more than once per second (per target), or not at all for several seconds.
    - Deals Kinetic damage with no inherent shield bypass.
    - Does NOT benefit from torpedo-related boosts and traits.
    - No real ICD.. will fire at any and all targets in range.
    - Deals damage similar to other unboosted torpedoes.

As they admitted on the Ten Forward video, in order to pull off the swarm mode activation animation they had to make the surface of the "saucer" unskinnable. Regardless of what vanity shield you use the panels on the saucer remain the same dull grey colour, which can look ok with some shield, but really cheap and ugly with others. The animation of lauching the swarm is cool the first few times you do it, but I suspect the vanity shield application would have had more lasting utility. On the other hand, those panels aren't there when swarm mode is on, and I suspect it'll be on pretty much 100% of the time for anyone who uses the ship.

I really wish the drone attacks had a longer range than 6km - if it had the full 10km range of standard weapons I'd have immediately switched back to the live server and snagged the ship. Unfortunately, it doesn't really suit a ship that was more or less a carrier in the show to have to get in close and stay close to enemies for its swarm of ships to actually do things. Hangar pets will fight enemies when they're out of weapons range... section 31 drones have less than half that range.

Secret Mission Starship Trait - Not a clue. I took the ship all the way to MR5 and the trait claimed it had unlocked but it never appeared in my list of starship traits, so.. no more info on that than was seen in the 10F video. Hopefully that is just a glitch on Tribble, not an issue seen on Live.

So yeah, a bit of a disappointment in its current form. I want to love swarm mode, but it isn't good enough to replace being an actual carrier with hangars like its constitution counterpart (which was also a 5/3 layout, and whose hangar pets could also act as point defense, or deal much higher damage to enemies, from farther away). As I say, if the drones had a longer range it'd be a different story.. and be more fun to watch.

Hopefully they'll fix the trait on tribble and I can check that one out too. For the time being I won't be using a promo box on live for it.

traits not unlocking on tribble is indeed a tribble issue - one captaintorrence (or as he's known on youtube, timberwolf) has been poking them for MONTHS now to fix...which they clearly STILL have not done
