Well I guess I am done playing for a while and if they do not fix this forever. maybe the Orville will come up with a online game that is like startrek online but actually works. After todays update, the excessive lag is back along with the rubber banding, attempted to play ground and kept getting turned around because of it could not play at all, space too, uninstalled twice, force verified, the game is now unplayable.

I have no lag whatsoever on STO so once again as usual the actual problem is between you and Cryptic not the servers.

I also have been having lag and SNRs a lot since April. No, the problem is not between me and Cryptic, it has to do with one of their servers connected with Akamai Technologies. Just because you have not been experiencing lag and SNRs when you play, does not mean a problem does not exist with their servers. Thanks. :)

    You need to stop.

If you're honestly trying to say this game has no lag, you're either totally deluded or you're flat out lying. Either way, this thread is for people that are having issues with Lag, if you want to pretend that you don't have any then fine.. but you're contributing nothing to this thread.

To say this game is never laggy for you is about as believable as saying you take a Pegasus to work every day. I may not get it all the time, and I don't get it nearly as bad as some people report, but to actually say you have 'no lag' is utterly ridiculous. Today for example, I logged out because it was just too laggy to bother. I am running a frikkn' super computer on a ridiculously fast connection.. it's sure as hell not me. I can play tomorrow and it will be smooth as silk, I roll the dice every time I boot up STO just like everyone else.

There is absolutely no way you never have lag.

OK, let's everyone chill here. I think what azrael is trying to say is that it is not Cryptic's servers themselves. It seems pretty clear from all the data so far that the issue is the Akamai server, which isn't Cryptic's server, but a third party server. OK, Cryptic may be using their server for security, but that doesn't mean they can just up and change that. There is most likely a contract in place that can't just be dropped, I'm sure. But the tracerts could be helpful in getting something done. Please continue to post your tracerts. And let's please not attack one another. It's not necessary to be rude just because you don't get lag or because you do. Not everyone's experiences here are necessarily going to be the same. Thank you.

Might be one of those old "brick" styles which you could use to knock down the sealed vault at Fort Knox :) and the modem would not have a scratch

After the long server maintenance across all servers the lag has only got worse for me. Cryptic really need to get this fixed and should look at the other MMO's like Eve-Online and how they fix it.

Tinfoil caps aside, this is likely a contract and cost issue that Cryptic will likely be very unwilling to discuss until/if/when they are able effect a change to it.

I guess you were talking about one night... it sounded to me like you meant that you never have lag ever.

Apologies if I read that incorrectly, I'm just annoyed because to me the Lag actually seems to be getting worse and is a big part of why I am hardly playing STO right now.

I guess like myself you must visit the Dyson Sphere often, the rubberbanding in that Zone esp the Ground and Space zone with the tower control mission is abysmal

rubber banding for me has been an small issue since the discovery content 1st went live. before that i has so few issues i wouldn't have complained. but today has to be the worst i've ever had since yesterdays update. other games on pc/xbox/ps4 and other internet tasks such as streaming music/tv shows have no issues.

so i would hope a fix is coming soon. but i wont hold my breath

I adore STO and love the work Cryptic has done, but I want to point out that the contract (it's conjecture on my part if there even is one) with Akamai has been around for maybe 5 years? This is certainly a long standing problem that goes back for ages, so it's not new.

whether this is a popular statement or not but the servers at present are an absolute disgrace. Rubberbanding and Lagging all over the place

Cute and funny as this image is, it is ignorant to think any IT department is able to wave some magic wand and fix every issue immediately. From the data being shared here, quite clear this isn't a simple fix. Changing/moving servers, network upgrades, hardware fixes are not as simple as plug and play.

As has been pointed out in a few other posts by others including myself this has been ongoing for many months over 9 for me, so expecting some sort of at the least acknowledgement beyond a very recent post tracerts isn't beyond the realms of realism.

I know you are advocating for patience but Cryptic are not a company when it comes to fixing bugs that have a good track record you can't poke them with a stick you have to beat them with it for the Community Manager to then ask for data and examples of the reported problem and hope once he passes that information on its doesn't get filed under trash and never dealt with

I never stated it was new. Rather I stated that, as a person who has run a company with contracts and cost controls, that they will likely not discuss (nor admit) to the issues associated with Akamai until they are in a position to, or are in the process of currently effecting said. As this has been ongoing since PWE acquired Cryptic I would hazard a guess that there is little Cryptic itself can or will do without permissions from higher up.

    Ok, understandable.

Only have my personal experience to judge but my fleet is older than dirt and this rubberbanding/disconnects issue is the #1 topic. It's painfully obvious that priorities need to change, what use is all the fancy new ships and lockbox items they sell if people are leaving the game due to the constant heartache? I would gladly trade more rubberbanding as opposed to getting constantly kicked out on a map change or joining a tfo. I'm rapidly approaching the stage where I need to make a decision and the complete lack of communication over years, multiple pc's, locations, and ISP's leads me to believe that they just don't care as long as the credit card machine's continue to work.

You may be right and you may be wrong I have been playing this game for 8 years and there has always been lag, I have an Omen computer now before that alien ware and that computer had lag but not as bad as this, before that I had a regular dell which worked great, maybe it is the more expensive gaming computers and not built for STO, I am checking it on my end, my GPU is over heating when I play STO which is part of the problem when I get to 99C I crash, so yes you are partly right, some one suggesting uninstalling my omen command center but until I can talk to some one from HP I will continue to investigate, but depending on your location you might just be lucky, so bully for you - great going chum - hip hip horary for you, but there is obviously a issue here for some people playing this game I am playing from Pennsylvania USA, where are you playing from are you close to the main server or something, I do not know, but again because you keep boasting about your great game play great for you, I am sooooooo happy for you, now back off.

Lag - specifically rubber-banding - has been a problem for me for some time now. It's all the time, especially in places like DS-9. A couple of nights ago I tried to get through the doors of the exchange, and it took me 8 attempts to do so, the rubber-banding was so bad.

It doesn't matter who or what is to blame, only Cryptic has the means to fix the problem. I can only hope they are actually working on it.

Even if they were to acknowledge an issue, it seems abundantly clear not everyone will like the answer and will take every opportunity to berate them no matter what they do.

Again, if it is something within a server farm they are contracted to use or are using because it fits their budget, it isn't a simple amount of work to just up and move nor does it mean it is financially feasible to do either.
I don't buy that because none of the other space MMO's have these kinds of problems for these length of times and when they do they manage to fix them on a budget a fraction of the size of Star Trek Online. They should stop wasting money on actors and other minor things that don't really matter but cost a lot and spend that money on getting this fixed. Then when its fixed go back to luxuries like hiring actors.

This is well beyond minor lag and is impacting player retention and player quality of life.

I've been considering making my own thread for the next rubber-banding issue that occurs; as a way to keep people interested in the phenomenon I've been researching various alternative adjectives to use in the thread title and discussion itself.

    Some of the candidates are:

    "SUPER EPIC ELASTIC-LOOP DISASTER"
    "LATENT ELASTIC BANDING FOLLY"
    "ELONGATED GUM-BASED LOOP LUNACY"
    "ELASTICISED LOLLY LAGGING"
    "RUBBERY RECALL RAGE"

These are just a few of my most splendid ideas, I have many more (which I shall of course share with you all in due course).

As rubberbanding is such a rare issue and is spoken on the forums very infrequently, I regret it may be a very long time, before I get the chance to fully realise this most cherished idea of mine.

Ah, but we can dream. Can we not?

If wish it was only rubberband lag. Game is totally unplayable by now. Had rubberband yesterday, dialogs didn't work. Any menu click you press takes ages to respond. Switch toons takes ages. But today, it was even worse. At the end I got SNR and disconnects. No way to get the daily mushroom junk to get the starship. I guess they will be happy if we'll need to spend zen for it.
