One thing that wasnt clear on the livestream was weather these "rewards" for creating a story would only go to current published missions or to people who have ever publisished a mission.

I know the real reason the foundry is ending. Enterprising creators were making missions that streamlined the onerous endeavor process, and you want to force people to play STFs.
Well congratulations, you just committed suicide. The foundry was a rare spot of color in a drab and tedious game. Good luck finding new jobs after this fiasco.

OH... why did they close the Foundry in Neverwinter???
Do they have Endeavors that they added recently??? I have not played that game in a while.

Actually, yes, NW will have it's version of the 'Endeavor System' soon:
Formerly known as Armsman from June 2008 to June 20, 2012
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
I played a few Foundry episodes in my time, so hat's off to the Foundry.
Would be nice if the better ones (such as the Spotlight missions, and possibly the runner-ups as well) was given some polish (i.e. using modern, non-legacy, maps and assets, etc.) and placed under the subheading of Foundry in the Available Missions section of the Mission Journal.
Or maybe the stories, with permission to do so from the Foundry authors to weave the Spotlighted missions into the story arcs.
Another possibility is to recreate them as selectable holodeck missions that can be accessed by going to the ship's holodeck, Starfleet and Klingon Academies, and holosuites at DS9, for example.
I don't post much, mostly because I don't like to complain but this is..I can't say Short Sighted because I can almost guarantee that a great deal of thought was put into it, but lets be real this was a decision made by the Cake Eaters and Bean-Counters who want to push more Gamble Lock-Boxes because they are easier and make far more money for less effort.
I am incredibility disappointed to see the Foundry go, especially given how new content is drip fed, We've had 4 new DSC missions since VIL, I know content takes time, and that's okay, I really enjoyed VIL which is why the Foundry was a great way of filling in the blanks between content drops. All this really does it player will come back for major content drops, and then log back off again until the next. Content Creation in the Foundry was something I was really looking forward to getting into in the future, now I'm glad I didn't. I can't imagine how all of the foundry creators feel right now.
I think this decision will be catastrophic to the game as a whole,
One more note. Look at your reviews on Steam, guys. Overall: Mostly positive. Recent: Mixed. And most of the positive reviews mention the foundry. You're really crashing hard. This is not a survivable mistake if you persist.
Cryptics writers must've finally had enough of being overshadowed by the community members putting out better stories than they do. This is yet another bad decision in a string of bad decisions that will harm the game in the long term. Just like the silence over the removal of the Elite Starter Pack and replacement with the per character crapshow that is the elite services starter pack...
Well after 8 years and more then 2,000 hours in STO, with most of that time playing and replaying missions, its been a good long run. I just wanted to thank all the all of the Foundry Authors for all of the great, interesting stories, missions and overall experience. LLAP
This is a shame. A real shame. Cryptic was known for two things that stood out in the MMO space... character customization (I'm looking at you CoX R.I.P.) and player created content. You are shutting down one of your cornerstones. One of the things that made you stand out from the rest. Instead of sunsetting a system that was a hack of the developer version anyways, why not give us something that allows players to create content easier and fix the interface so we're able to find good stories and arcs. You guys could just go full time into churning out loot box content instead and sit back and count yer cash while we do all the work after that. The foundry was so useful for telling a story and for making custom environments for fleets and RP. This is a mistake and I'm guessing some of your metrics will show it in the long run.
Not surprised. I was worried when PWE took over, this game was going to end up being a grindy [fourletterword]fest. Fleet grinds, reputation grinds, event grinds, now these silly endeavors.
I was hopeful when Foundry was put in, tested it on tribble, and published a pair of missions on live, but a series of critical mistakes kneecapped it from the start.
Rewards were always pathetic. Foundry creation took huge amounts of time to do a good mission, and in the end we get 100 dilithium at best as a tip. At the current exchange rate, that amounts to 1/3 of a penny's worth of Cstore points, doesn't it? No its not all about the Cstore, but the fact is the effort to reward ratio was way off. The fact that the only tip possible was dilithium made it worse, since people do have a lot of need for the stuff, and might be less willing to part with it than say credits, reputation marks, or even gear. Any author is therefore left with the choice, do I spend all kind of time making a great mission and maybe I can get enough dilithium to buy a reputation shield in a month at best, or do I play the game, advance my characters, do the reputation grind, because that's all stuff I can't do while authoring missions?
The game has been a series of half done things from launch, and I had hoped Foundry would be different, but the bean counters win again, cutting something off without giving it enough time and effort to really bear fruit by improving the design.
The sad thing is, I took a break from this grindy game for a few years. I come back recently and see an email from a year ago by someone who wondered where one of my Foundry missions went. An update broke it and I never knew it. I took 3-4 hours to relearn what I had to to fix what ultimately amounted to shifting a few dialog boxes around and republished it. Why? Because one person cared about what I created, and the effort I put in. I don't even know if they got to play it again, or if they will before its gone.
I really wish I had more time to put in this game into actually playing the Foundry missions that other people put time and effort into. This is something that always frustrated me, because I had to make that choice, grind for my characters and the silly amount of things to do, or play something interesting. I always told myself, hey, as soon as I finish this grind, I'll have pletny of time to play all the Foundry missions I want. I never did, there was always another grind, and Foundry missions would never help them, which was a huge flaw.
Fundamentally, the Foundry was never desgined well, it was never designed to truly mesh with the rest of the game and the direction towards grind, neither for author or player. This is Cryptic's and PWEs fault for not getting those systems to work together, when it boils down to it. Don't blame the players for not playing a poorly thought out system.
Sounds like the death of STO tbh. Many people who I know, have played through all the content, then come back regularly to play Foundry missions. They will only come back now, when a new mission drops. The grind grind grind gets boring after a while and the Foundry was my only real escape from it.
Geez, seems all the conspiracy nuts and doomsayers are really showing up for this one.

Watch, when the Foundry goes bye-bye so will most of the players. Who knows maybe in a few weeks or months this will be a dead game.

I have resisted the tempation to say anything... Everything is already said. But this comment, comming FROM A MODERATOR is unaccepteable. I've been forum moderator, and this go against every single rule possible from an official forum.
Yeah, as others as said- given the timing with the launch of the Endeavor system this looks like they are getting rid of the Foundry to force replay of specific Dev content. I hope that wasn't the case.
The given reason is just about as bad, it sums up as "We can no longer afford to maintain the game we produced, so we're removing sections to reduce the work load to something we can handle". An evil side of me thinks, "Yeah, the income drop you've received from DSC based content has to be balanced somewhere"- but I don't have any evidence that this is really the case. Just wishful thinking.
In the end however, the reason doesn't matter. What is, just is.
And I will make my future play decisions based upon what is. I haven't decided yet, it depends upon how much of a burden Endeavors now become.
Hopefully they'll raise the rate of Endeavor Re-roll tokens so it becomes a wash. If they don't, we'll know the reason was to force certain content.

Very much doubt you were a moderator veridian. And BMR is correct and appropriate in what he said.
And the fact your post counts are so low lends much to your credibility....NOT! Recently created to just troll so you don't get your real accounts moderated....shame, shame.
And apologies BMZ....It's rare I react so.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
However, the legacy knowledge required to maintain the Foundry at our quality standards is no longer available.
It is my understanding that this means not that they want to close it down, but that they no longer have the personnel, code, facilities, etc. to maintain it.
I will certainly miss the Foundry as will many, but I would like to echo an earlier question. The ability to make missions will be gone on April 11th, but can we please still play those that have already been made?
Coding is complicated, and figuring out how someone else coded something might take months. That's why the recent issues have been so bad, the Foundry code isn't being maintained by the people who made it and the current team need to reverse-engineer it to fix it. that takes several times as long as new development does.

I've been using the Foundry almost since it was added to the game. The devs have fixed, broken, and re-fixed it with almost every major update. Problem is that, each time they did it, the result was more broken than before. It needed fixed in ways the dev team didn't know how to do. It would likely have required months for them to figure out what was wrong, and it would have required them to delay their plans for updating the main game.
