Because one of the reasons he gave for wanting Data killed off in Nemesis was because he didn't think he could convincingly continue to play a non-aging character.
Which is moot in the context of STO. Maybe he's worried about his voice but I think the thing to highlight there is "one of the reasons." He's admitted to some fatigue with doing more Star Trek (Data being the obvious focual point to that) even while exploring the possibility of a cameo for Discovery (San Diego comic con 2016 interview.)
So basically the problem here is Brent Spiner refuses to have anything to do with Star Trek anymore. I didn't know about what lengths Cryptic had gone through to give him other options. So, why is Brent Spiner refusing anything associated with Star Trek? Now I'm forced to give this more thought. Is it a money issue? He delivered for Independence Day 2.
I'm going to have to analyse this closer. Something doesn't seem right. It seems he is not telling the whole truth, or rather there is something he is not telling the public.
As far as I know Brent Spiner started out as a comedian. I first saw him as a redneck on Night Court. Looking back at a lot of scenes with Data one thing that strikes me is how much of Data's "straight man" deliver seems derived on comedy, or the comedic effect. Could it be that Brent Spiner never liked how ST fans didn't get that much of Data's scenes were intended for comedic flare, being that Spiner enjoys comedy?
Has Brent Spiner gone into any more details about why he isn't interested in continuing any role in Star Trek?

It could just be fatigue with playing the character TNG started in 1987 nemisis was... 2002? thats a loonmg time to play the same character. Some actors just want to move on. especially as most trek fans I knew get that data was the ultimate straight man"

Yes, I get that but at the same time it seems cowardly given that it's been so long. It's not as if he's portrayed the character in the last 15 years. STO would feel more like Star Trek with Data, but alas if Brent Spiner can't "lower" himself to reprise, oh well. Huge loss for both him, and the legacy of Star Trek moving forward online.
I kinda want to see more CAPTAIN EZRI DAX and the Aventine.......There was a mention of a Captian Dax of the Enterprise J during Ragnarock.
It wouldn't be Ezri Dax on the Ent-J though. Probably a future host for Dax.
What we DO have though, is mention of the Aventine in the latest FE, and Bashir is gonna be working with her. We ALSO have mention of the Aventine in a previous Story Blog back when K-13 was found and confirmed that Ezri Dax is the Captain.
So... we may have a chance to actually see Ezri Dax and the USS Aventine in the future.
IMO...I do hope they go back to the BORG episodes and make a redo. Why go back to the past with Iconians, Hurq or temporal wars is beyond me. The future IMO is the BORG since it does represent an evolution to what current civilizations have at that timeline.
The Borg were not only defanged in Voyager, they were pretty well defanged in STO. Yes they are still a threat, but not the apocalyptic threat they were in TNG. The Borg don't innovate. They assimilate. Everyone else has innovated new tactics and weapons to use against the Borg, and are doing so QUITE successfully these days. Not only that, apparently they've taken a beating once again from the Undine, AND took a beating from the Vaadwaur.
In the Real World... the Borg are an overused TNG era enemy. A LOT of games set in the TNG era have had the Borg in one form or another. They've gotten stale.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

How about an expansion set in a brand new alternate universe, with us "trapped" there for the duration of the story (we'd still be able to visit ESD and such for gameplay reasons, but that capability would not be Canon to the story). The things they could do with such a setting are endless: evil Lukari? Alpha and Beta quadrants controlled by the Dominion? Perhaps a reality where humanity went extinct during WW3, resulting in the Federation never being founded?

No, that would be your post.
If it was about money then that means his excuses, reasons as I mentioned are not the entire truth. I'm not lower myself to insults of you or even of Brent Spiner. Star Trek Online needs Data in my opinion. You're free to disagree without insults.
Since we're probably never going to get the Star Trek with the Prime timeline any time soon in movies, or in TV that means Star trek Online is the only place we can have the prime timeline. This is it, so in terms of the future it would be great if the unfinished story arc of the Federation using androids to seek out new life, and explore new worlds continued with Data, but we'll probably have to do without Data. You can be mad at me all you'd like. As of right now this is the only prime timeline Star Trek we're getting, with no Data.
My fault?

You make many entirely incorrect assumptions. Lets pull some examples from Trek history. DeForrest Kelley almost refused ST6 due to how much less he made than others, it was only Nimoy pushing for him to get the biggest payday of his career (1 million) that got him on board. Karl Urban almost refused STBeyond because he was not satisfied with how mich his character had to do. I can pull many more examples. Spiner has valid reasons that do not in any way have a thing to do with "lowering" himself and yoir post is an insulting pile of garbage.
They should let him write a story arc. I've seen some of his ideas for star trek and he has some really good ideas. Also he prefers star trek to go forward in time instead of lingering in the past which I agree with.

Brent Spiner is quite talented so I know I wouldn't mind seeing his insight, and crafting. I would also agree in seeing ST move forward, and with a bit more depth too.
No more Data please. He's been done to death (literally) on TV, film, books etc.
A bigger role for androids and holograms would make sense though.
In the real world, they already seem bound to replace humans soon in ever more places and positions.
And looking at how succesful Data and the Doctor were, it would be logical for the Federation to deploy more of these. Quinn has noted how difficult it is to fill up the crews of ships and with the entire fleet being rebuilt and redesigned every 6 months, one would think that we'd see many more of them.
They don't all have to look like Data. I'm sure that all the different member species have their own experiences with robotics and building androids.
What I would like to see as part of the far future is playing as part of the Galactic Union. They could either make it a separate sector space map, or just build a story arc around the GU.
And I would appreciate an option to add descriptions to Doffs, change their names and so on. A couple of years into the future, some of my lower ranking crewmen should be promoted to higher ranks and take the place of boffs.

I've been a Star Trek fan most of my life, but not the most well knowledged. I believe the next chapter of Star Trek was to combine humans, and machine, or android technology to explore beyond our galaxy or at least begin that evolution of sorts.
After Star Trek TOS stopped airing on network TV, it became more popular in syndication when Gene Roddenberry, and others began drafts for the next TV chapter of Star Trek which would have been Star Trek Phase II, which later became Star Trek The Motion Picture which was clearly about passing the torch to the next cast of adventurers - humans combined with artificial alien intelligence.
Of course that never happened once Kirk, and Spock movies became popular again. Then in TNG it was a new crew with both Riker and Troi clearly lighter archetypes of Decker and Ilia from Star Trek The Motion Picture.
It's much more complicated, and I'm certain other better well knowledged fans know more details, but the point is humans combined with android artificial intelligence seemed to be the long term direction Star Trek was headed before the movies (and more TV shows) became so successful.
As science fiction goes I believe there's plenty of fertile ground, but of course the big problem would be in figuring out how to make that begin while still having enemies to shoot. The borg were obviously examples of technology taking over humanity too far, but an android such as Data representing the best of both human, and artificial to search beyond our galaxy. Obviously if our galaxy is beginning to make androids to search beyond, it's not far fetched to think distance aliens from other galaxies wouldn't do the same.
How does any of that work into a gaming format? I don't know, I'm not a game dev.

An interesting perspective.
I must admit --- brace yourselves --- that I haven't watched much of the TOS movies as they were made quite some time before I was born. I've only watched some fragments and the better part of The Undiscovered Country. Watching them all is still on my to do list so I can't really say much about it for now.
As for the gaming format issues: I'm sure there are some ways to come up with a convincing story that allows for shooting. Barbaric aliens that have caught the remnants of advanced tech from long dead species, creatures like the Crystalline Entity which may not be bad but simply driven by basic instincts
CBS has big plans for Star Trek beyond just Discovery, miniseries, full series, ect..., Paramount has not one, but two different Star Trek movies in development, they can pillage more ideas from the star trek books, comics, video games, and so on if they make side deals.
Plus they can just go nuts with the intimate possibilities of the Star Trek multiverse, where anything is possible, maybe the Borg with cloaking tech make a return from another universe, maybe we get invaded by the Trill Imperial Empire from a different universe, maybe an alternate universe Khan who defeated Kirk attacks the STO universe, maybe in another universe the Ultra Conservative Theocracy of Risa tries to invade our hedeocracy of Risa, and we have to defend it.
They could even maybe get a licence for other Gene Roddenbury settings like Andromeda, Earth Final Conflict and so on, and do really cool crossovers.
Or they can simply explore races, eras, and planets they haven't touched yet, from preexisting Star Trek series, the possibilities are endless.
Let's look at two individuals whom are almost universally considered the two best villians in all of Star Trek, Khan, and Gul Dukat.
Khan: Khan belives in his total superiority and attempts to take over the Enterprise... with the aide of someone who was supposed to be a starfleet officer, cause reasons he' stopped and Kirk graciously maroons him, and his partner in crime on a habbitable world. (keep in mind Khan was guilty of piracy, Kirk proably could have just had them both shot.. or dumped out the nearest airlock) Khan graciously accepts the offer to be settled on a world, but then blames Kirk for a natural phenomanon. And when he gets off world despite being able to do anything or go anywhere he wastes it all in a quest for vengece, Khan was clearly less then rational, and may have even been insane (in fact IIRC various material suggests Augments tend to have mental issues)
Dukat: the guy seemed to think the Bajorans should have loved him, utterly unreasonable, and the guy went bonkers towards the end.
so yeah unreasonable activity is hardly as negitive, you can have comeplling villians whom are both.
I believe the next chapter of Star Trek was to combine humans, and machine, or android technology to explore beyond our galaxy or at least begin that evolution of sorts....<snip>....was clearly about passing the torch to the next cast of adventurers - humans combined with artificial alien intelligence.....
I like this as a concept....how about breaking out your creativity stick?? You are the writer, right?
Why turn this idea over to Cryptic to mess it up. You should take it and run with it.

Personally I would suspect one of 2 things.
1)A Borg revamp (Which will likely fail as the developers have again proved they cant do a realistic war)
2)Something original with perhaps the Nybyrite alliance (Mentioned in 1 episode never again)
A bigger role for androids and holograms would make sense though.
