The game as a whole got more hard on my hardware - I think I should look up at least a new graphic card - the whole engine got sluggish on my PC.
Propably because of the new "improved" DS9, better effects and so on...
Before the patch I played comfortably on "Windowed maximized" with medium (and somewhat higher) settings, now I need "Fullscreen" and lowered many details.
I'm impressed overall. Yes, there are a few bugs in some of the missions and they've already been touched on in the feedback and bug threads. Some rubberbanding in the social zones but not in the missions. However, these little things can be expected on launch day of a new expansion and I'm confident that the devs will have those creases ironed out soon enough.
Compared to launches of expansions past, I feel like this one went extremely well for the most part.
DS9 is looking amazing! A job very well done by everyone involved in it's revamp! And a big thanks out to Thomas who put in a lot of the work in his spare time. You did an amazing job, dude!
The storyline progression along with the VO of the original DS9 cast are awesome. It really pulled me in and felt like Star Trek was back on track. (CBS & Paramount, please take note of what the developers have produced here and learn a thing or two when creating content for TV and Movies. lol)
So yeah, overall I'm very impressed and enjoying the new expansion immensely. Well done guys, very well done indeed!
First impression, I'm not really impressed with what I'm seeing in this "expansion."
As someone who's been around sincr the game was in open beta back in 2010, I was expecting more to come out of this. I wasn't impressed with Legacy of Romulus and the half faction there nor am I impressed with Victory is Life and the "Fraction Faction," for lack of a better term here. Agents of Yesterday held a lot of promise for me, but again, it was a major let down for me as it seemed like there were a ton of missed oppoutunites.
I might change my opinion the more I delve into ViL, and I welcome anyone to try and convince me otherwise. But as of this writing, ViL gets a no go from me. Worst use of stipend that I could have made to try and get involved with ViL and like it.
This has been fun so far. I am someone of few resources, so I'm making do mostly with what I have and am tweaking as I go and I've still only 'died' twice.
On my Lifer acct, had saved up more than enough to unlock the Vanguard, so that's where he is. The normal J-H is on my F2P acct. Nothing slouchy about either of them, except the Vanguard has many more options (naturally).
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
Jeez there is a shitload of issues pouring in on the support thread..Also I am one of the players who cant get in because of one file server side as one of the DEV's pointed maybe corrupted and thus blicking the patcher from completing the update..But Jeez there is a TRIBBLE load of issues..
i am an engineering jem'hadar and i have noticed the ship selector on ds9 is not working for me but others stand in front of it and it appears to be working for them? is there an issue with this not working for certain factions?
Actually I had no problem accessing the station with my others characters, including standard Jem'Hadar. However for some reason my Vanguard Jem'Hadar could not. Ended up transwarping to Qo'noS. Had no problem accessing the NPC there and was able to change my ship.
One of the decisions they made didn't really seem all that thought out, and that's when you first show up and are addressed by Weyoun (however you spell that). He and his partner send you to the ship claim area so that you can choose a different ship, if you desire, but that means going from a completely stocked tactical vessel to an almost empty ship with Mark X weapons. Not sure why anyone would choose that option.
You can move the gear from the starter ship to the new one, you know.
I certainly didn't want to waste time on the starter when I had T6's to level.
Exactly. It still left me with one Mark X weapon and a mission console but mission later I got to choose the faction I would align with (KDF). I went to the ship vendor and picked up all the KDF and C-store ships I have unlocked and got all the consoles I needed. 1 mission later the reward was a Mark XII space weapon. No problem
If you are a Jem'Hadar then get a full complement during the tutorial. If you bought the Vanguard Pack then you got 3 BOFF's. They're not bad actually. I had 1 key in my inventory and opened a DS9 lockbox. What I got was a Dukan'Rex hologram. He is not bad at all.

The voice acting is amazing. Especially Garak, Quark, Brunt and Odo. I hadn't realized how much I missed Garak until I first heard him speak. I actually had goose bumps.

If you weren't impressed with Legacy of Romulus, then I can tell you literally nothing the devs do will ever impress you.
I'm serious. LoR, while not giving us the Romulans most of us wanted, was arguably the best thing this game has ever had, even if it was half a faction. AoY was the second.
This expansion, well I haven't finished all the content yet, but I would place it as third, so far. The content is great, but (as devs have stated was intended), it's mostly geared to all factions. So it loses points for that.
Adding another full faction from level 1-65 will never happen again (if you even count it happening to the Romulans).
The devs have stated they will not do another LoR style expansion again.

I haven't heard Brunt yet, but Garek's was by far the best, followed by Weyoun. I had goosebumps too. Quark was okay, if a little flat (same for Kira). Odo was a little better. A few of them lacked the emotional variance in their voices I would have expected, given the context of their lines.
Even still, it was great to hear them all again, and interact with them.
I don't know if it's a bug, or a feature that is delayed in it's implementation, or what... but, If I attempt to edit the appearance of my Jem ships, other than the windows, nothing changes when switching the different materials, or adding patterns.
Would also like clarification on choosing the Fed/KDF faction for the Jems. The Fed Jems have a specific Jem'Hadar/Starfleet uniform upon selecting them as your faction. On the KDF side... there is no Jem/KDF uniform. Is this intended?
The jem'hadar shield has a shield visual, you should try removing the shields before editing the ships appearance, and there's an option to disable the shield visuals while using the ship when you left click them.

Thanks for that! I should have figured that one... lol
So... having played the first 2 episodes, I have to say, I'm impressed! Thanks for all the work you guys put into Victory is Life, and only by taking a look at DS9, one can see you guys put your hearts into this! The animations from the characters are so amazing! And considering DS9 is my favorite Trek show, I am entirely happy
First of all, I like this expansion, and the new elements of it, even if my 2011 consumer type notebook is a littlebit outdated for the game engine. :O But, there is always a but...or two. As someone mentioned above, I thought there will need more time to reach the new max lvl. The other thing is, I like the idea of getting free ships, and understand that this opportunity should not kill the company income. But, as a lvl 61 character can get a ship that designed for lvl 45-55? That's a little bit empty hand. I think the token can be used for the 2000 zen ships, but then I found some of that wich are unavalliable, so thats not working correctly. And the other part of this, there are no Jem Hadar ships that could be obtain with this token, that toon can only spend it for the allegiance ships, and this is a huge disappointment.

I was wondering the same thing. When I chose KDF the Jem'Hadar shown on the picture was wearing a special KDF/Jem'Hadar uniform but it is nowhere to be found when you visit the tailor.
Maybe i have not gone far enough, maybe I have not given all the ships a proper shakout(Vanguard pack), just don't feel too inspired to run my Gammie through all the effort to be a maxed leveled and geared character. Still have my Rommie as a fallback.

The ship token is exactly identical to the veteran ship token given at Level 50. No more, no less.
It's a limited selection of ships (not all C-Store ships, just the low-end ones such as the defiant, galaxy, and intrepid), and there's no upgrade token. Devs backed up on that, admitting it was a miscommunication.
Given all the event ships given out for free each year, which are way better than that, this token is pretty useless. It's just for admiralty pretty much. I suppose a new player may not have any event ships unlocked yet, so it might be useful to them, though they still need to buy the T5-U upgrade in the store to keep it useful.

In addition to the distinct downgrade feeling the T5u ships have compared to the T5s they supposedly replace as the top end free ships, it is not useful AT ALL to Romulan science captains since there are NO Romulan T5u science ships available to even get for instance. The Devs really blew this cap lifting with the T5u debacle.
As it is, I will have to fly my Ha'nom in endgame for the foreseeable future, just like anyone else who wants to fly a Romulan science ship in endgame without having to scale the paywall. The same goes for anyone who actually built a character specifically for a certain style and ship at endgame that lacks a T4/T3 equivalent that the T5u ships are based on. It gets very annoying playing what amounts to kamikaze runs at the endgame enemies with an obsolete T5 ship however, and that is not the way to retain players.
Leveling up is way to fast we shouldn't be going from level 60 to 65 within 5mins or less of logging into the game. Leveling up that fast makes it feel pointless and not an achievement. I barely got chance to process the first level up before the next hit. Just finished 1 run though the swarm and now level 65 myself.
Getting to level 65 should have been something to enjoy and work towards over hours. Instead of providing fun extra content the new levels have been pointless.
I have a feeling double XP might still be active, or have been, since it may be done by the time this post, well, posts. I can't say from first hand experience since I likely won't be in the game today since pre-patching and keeping Tribble up-to-date did NOTHING for speeding up the patching process today.
9.7 gigs is going to take me the rest of the day. Been patching for about the last 2.5 hours and have managed just over 2 gb patched. By the time it gets done, I'll be eating dinner and done with my 'play time' for the night. Oh well, at least the expansion will still be here tomorrow.
Unless there is an emergency patch to fix some bugs. Which there likely will be.
Please, prove me wrong.
If I can add my own two cents, maybe an alternative solution would've been to allow the player to choose if he wants to start his Jem'Hadar at lvl 60 or at lvl 1.
I understand that would've needed additional considerations but then again I like to grow with a toon and I have to agree 60 to 65 took less than an hour of gameplay, so it is not ideal.
That being said, great job overall, I am quite pleased.
Loving it, so far. Garrak is one of my favorite ST characters; glad to hear Andy Robinson back doing the voice, and the STO team did great getting his visual tics down. Thanks for the extra effort! It didn't go unnoticed! And every character Combs does, I just love.
Also, many thanks for the news post about DS9 episodes to review. I'd probably have appreciated past seasons more if I'd have reviewed episodes referenced there. If you wondered, it didn't feel "spoilery" to me, at all.
Cuppla things to respond to in this forum:
The start at 60 JH thing doesn't float my(own personal) boat. Having a crapton of skills all at once just doesn't work for me. The mission was entertaining, though.
60-65 was insanely fast for me. I loaded up DOFF's and Admiral missions to get a bit of a boost, and got to 65 on just that in a couple days without doing any missions. Can't imagine that to be what you intended.
The ground combat is just lit up with so much effect/zone TRIBBLE that I have almost no idea what's going on. Bubbles popping up everywhere; dogs and cats living together...

You folks do a great job telling ST stories on what is a pretty limited toolset(sorry if that sounds like a backhanded compliment). Thanks for entertaining this particular dude!
-DS9 is well done but the NPC are just overcrowding the narrow spaces like the bar and the bank areas..
-Voice acting was done well but many were not there or hardly there, martok, Leeta, Rom, etc..
-Nice rework of the sector space theme music in the back ground while moving through..Its a change..
-Story wise good with some clever tie ins, but there are some unexplained bits which I assume MAY get addressed in the future like Garek getting the HurQ beacon and the major one at the end of the arc "TO BE CONTINUED" line...
-The Lucky 7 mission where you play multiple ferengi only was a nice touch.
-The disappointment of the whole thing was there was no Martok or for that matter any Kling interaction, a 0.1% interaction with Rom & Leeta, the female founder, was seen just thrice out which she was killed the last time we saw here..
-The new bajor syatem is leading me to believe that there may be future stuff in the form of the second phase of ViL in bound to compliment the first 5 missions given the "TO BE CONTINUED"teaser at the end of the last mission..
-The Gamma Quad BZ is something different wherein its not isolated to one sector but constantly changing..
-Visually its good and the character body gestures made it better..
-The themes for situations was also fresh in some parts with a drop of the exisiting themes..
-The move from LvL60-65 was very decent and not the grind like 50-60 that is without the bonus XP run..
-People on low level hardware did suffer a hit with lighting v1, most noticable in DS9 and heavier graphical requirements by the expansion..Lower end of the of the hardware spectrum also needs to be considered...AND before everyone jumps on the get a GPU band wagon not everyone can afford a decent GPU at the current prices..
-Audio needs work, too much of uncontrolled fading in and out of themes and ambient sounds..
-The 64 bit client can use some tweaks for better optimisation and performance.
-Bugs, well there is no need to mention as the support thread is flooded with them..
My rating..6.5/10 in the current state..
Major points lost because the entier cast available wasnt used to full potential and some missing..Also with the numerous bugs in launch state..
So, I finished all the new Gamma Quadrant arc storyline (which is fantastic, btw)... and I'm already bored with my JH character.
I don't play queues much, and I have no interest in playing the main STO storyline, that doesn't apply to Jem'Hadar.
This JH is already better geared than most of my characters, so there's nothing for me to do.
