Well, Borticus specifically stated that the poll wasn't promising anything. I think they are just trying to gauge interest. I know the T6 Vor'cha and Ambassador were ships that he specifically mentioned being bandied about during the live stream a few weeks ago.

Does the Ambassador even NEED a quality pass remodel? It's model is no-where near as old as the Nova and both the Enterprise-C and Yamaguchi variant models look very good quality and canon-accurate.

As opposed to the Nova class which has numerous model errors, the most glaringly obvious being the wrong main deflector, and looks like something from a PlayStation 1 game.

Believe me, I'm not arguing the Nova doesn't desperately need a quality pass, nor am I arguing the Ambassador model is bad, I'm just stating facts based on past examples - canon ships that get new variants also tend to get quality passes. So, the Ambassador probably will too. Hopefully they'll pull a Miranda and throw in the old Probert variant as a skin option.

Solution: Make the T6 Nova look like the Rhode island, with the correct deflector look...but a default of a type 6 or 7 hull. Sound like a simple Cryptic plan folks?

Honestly, it would kinda be like the Excelsior Refit in this respect. But less work for Cryptic means more hope of a T6 Nova class for us players...and it would be a simple yet darn good look IMHO.

    What do you think folks?

FYI folks, I never did make it to that Twitter poll thingy...so +1 on the Nova votes if you're reading this Cryptic folk, and pass it along as apt if it makes a difference. lol

To be honest there isn't a great deal it in. The Rhode Island only really had minor, mostly cosmetic, alterations made atop the Nova model. Off the top of my head, the only differences were:

    - dome over the bridge
    - bussard collectors have some additional plating on them
    - dorsal intercoolers reduced to one per nacelle
    - impulse engines combined to one, smaller, reactor
    - secondary deflector plated over and replaced with a smaller, triangular, one
    - square escape pods replaced with Sovereign-class style triangular ones

Maybe if they did a Nova class original look (a-la U.S.S. Equinox) but with a type 6 or 7 hull it would work? Then we could mix and match Nova and Rhode Island parts with the apt hull type (type 3 is it?) to get a true-to-form U.S.S. Rhode Island look...and just change the hull type to get a true-to-form U.S.S. Equinox look?

    I think that would work...

They get a quality pass on thomas' own time. It's not actually Cryptic mandated that he does that, at least for most models. He just is that awesome.

Agreed - I've always maintained that it isn't so much the lack of a T6 version that irks me, it's the poor quality (and inaccuracy) of the model.

The desperate yearning if not for a T6 Nova class...

It's a lot more accurate than the "Olympic"-class from STO however.

Well, I hope they both remodel the canon design of the Nova and Rhode Island looks for STO...and go mad and put together a T6 Nova class ship in time to nab my Christmas monies. It's been too long since the C-Store tempted me...

    I know - I don't dispute that.

Still, it's a canon ship that featured heavily in two episodes and appeared again in another. It really does need some work - the 'wrong main deflector' issue really does bug me, espeically considering the fact they didn't make the same mistake on the (old) Intrepid class model.

Didn't they remodel the Intrepid class at one point as it had an incorrect deflector? So, if they can remodel and do a T6 for that ship...
  • vosorosvosoros Member Posts: 343 Arc User
At least they used correct deflector with Nova class artwork in Star Trek Adventures. lol

Would be nice if that were an option, although that would fit the Scout ship theme a little better.

Would make an awesome torpedo boat too ;)

Would still work for the Nova as a T6 Scout ship but with the Nova's science

I would like to say "Give this guy a T6 Nova", but I won't for four reasons:

        1) Out of the three factions, the Feds have by far the most ship options already. The KDF are lacking in canon T6 options, so they should see new T6 ships first. Yes more revenue comes from Fed players, but there is a simple reason for this, there is LESS content on the KDF side, so its only logical that the bulk of the revenue stream comes From Fed players. Put more content KDF side, and watch the revenue from KDF players increase.
        2) Let's say STO grant your wish and release a T6 Nova, two things will happen. The first is players will be immediately complaining about the Nova's stats/Boff stations/console slots/unique console being cruddy. The second is that there will be only more players will be repeatedly opening more threads requesting other ships.
        3) The Nova was a crappy ship. I bet Quark, drunk on Rommy ale shooters whilst flying a stolen Runabout could take out a Nova.
        4) Look how long it took them to give in to releasing a T6 Miranda. That took the voices of THOUSANDS of players over many years before they caved. A few players opening similar threads all basically requesting the same ship? Good luck with that.

There have been instances in canon when shuttles or runabouts (or comparable craft) destroyed or disabled (much) larger ships. The episodes 'preemptive strike', 'for the uniform' and 'faith, trachery and the great river' proved that very small ships can disable or even destroy much larger ships, either through smart manouvering and good aim or through simple swarm-tactics. That doesn't make the disabled or destroyed ship "bad".

For example, Chakotay destroyed a trabe-ship fairly quickly by targeting the warp-core in a frikkin type-8-shuttle.
Odo destroyed a Jem'Hadar-raider in a Danube because Weyoun told him where the shields are weakest.
The Maquis used to swarm comparatively large cardassian warships with nothing but shuttle- or runabout-sized ships and perhaps modified transports. In a similar fashion, they disabled an Excelsior-class ship fairly easily, the Malinche.

Eventually this can all vary due to writing and canonically there is no constant value to any of this. The Enterprise-D was destroyed by a ship she could have easily handled even without shield-protection, but due to writing, the bridge-crew was looking for a "weakness" for 5 minutes before firing a SINGLE torpedo. You can't treat what's happening on-screen in a show or movie like it's a documentation of realistic performance.

Logically it makes sense that Intrepid- and Nova-classes are somewhat hard to compare. Both are rather scientific vessels with similar attributes, with the Intrepid just being a bit larger and having a few more phaser-arrays as well as a slightly less traditional warp-drive.

We, the audience can't pull out our tricorders and actually look at the exact power-outputs and other specs of either ship.

If that was true, every federation-ship would have had a T6-equivalent for years now. Some don't even have a C-store T5.

Just saying but these are still stuck at (fleet-)T5:

Saber. Olympic. Cheyenne. Luna. Nova. Ambassador. Fleet-Escort (opportunity to include the Norway) and... Surfboard umm I mean old Star Cruiser (don't know which name to pick but let's say Nomad).

I think that romulans are the only ones with a full complement of all ships in store as low-tier, T5 and T6 up to their respective fleet-versions aside from the lockbox/promo-vessels.

Actually looking at the Defiant-path finder it would be pretty fun in the ideas of a fast/nimble torp-boat, and also add in that the article said that there was a quad-nacelle version of it that used a twin-warp core. Just thinking of what they would look like I would not mind flying that. Also it was said that this version could fire torpedoes at something like warp 9, but using this as a basis for a console that baseline increased the fly speed of your torpedoes, but that on using the console you launched a barrage of torpedoes during a quick warp jump causing them to impact the target instantly (this is based on the fact that many feel torpedoes have a travel time on their damage).

Well, needs a bit more than that really - it's a very inaccurate model:

To the Star Trek Online Developers Staff,

Since the game has been released, it met hundreds of technical and visual updates. Indeed, several important ships have been visually updated like the Sovereign, the Intrepid, the Constitution Refit classes and so on. These ships are, actually, the most important as it means a lot to Trekkers/Trekkies because they were ships of well-known captains or about History like the Enterprise A, D and E, the Voyager or even the Enterprise NX-01.

Star Trek Online is the best Star Trek game ever created and will still be in the future. Some people are playing it for the competition and some others are playing for the story arcs, for the gameplay and customization and further more people are liking this game because it is their only way of expressing their own fan-fiction with their own crew and their own ship. And the latter is also my goal of playing STO.

Ships are the most important thing in-game, it means this is a part of your character, of your character story and also your preference among all those Fed ships. Indeed, mine is the Nova Class, just like the U.S.S. Equinox seen in Star Trek Voyager two parts episodes "Equinox".

The Nova Class is a tough little ship ("Little?" as Worf would say...). I faced the Borg, the True Way Cardassians and even the Breens without being destroyed (well, I bought the Rhode Island type to be more powerful than the original dilithium-paid Nova Class). But this ship is lacking of visual definition.

Everything must be remade and redefined as the real Nova Class. Sure thing, redesigning a ship means money, time and efforts and I do know about time because of future STO episodes and upcoming new ships. However, as lots of ships have been modernized visually, I think some need these improvements as well. And the Nova Class and Rhode Island really need it.

On the Nova Class, from up to downside, external view:
          • Saucer: Windows are missing in the provided areas. The Secondary Deflector Dish needs to be recolored and redesigned, just as the Intrepid Class and the Rhode Island type. The bridge needs a remodeling as the blue circle is not that bright and there are white lights around it like the Intrepid Class bridge. Escape pods need to be replaced correctly on the saucer and the same about nav lights that are actually located on the RCS thrusters and, by the way, the RCS thrusters have to be designed and colored, the nav lights are just next to them. Starfleet paints have to be existent around the phaser banks, the escape pods, the fore turrets and the secondary deflector. The "light cube" to show the name and registry of the ship is actually inexistent. On the saucer bottom side, the torpedo launcher is actually located at the front of the sensor array (which the latter one is blue-lighted) and there are sensor arrays below the phaser banks. The ship name and registry is located at the correct place but on a specific hull plate. There are no lights on the Waverider shuttle, so no light for the registry. It should not include the UFP logo on the saucer.
          • Engineering Hull: The major issue is the absence of the main deflector dish. The orange polygonal deflector needs to be created and added, just as the Intrepid and Nebula classes ships. Starfleet paints are needed around the phaser banks, the warp core ejection and the landing struts. The warp-core door ejection has to be made, just as the Intrepid Class and the landing struts are missing. The landing floor of the shuttlebay needs to be extended and actually, the aft torpedo launchers are not visible and are located on the dorsal side. There are no escape pods.
          • Pylons: Nothing to say about them, excepting a better definition.
          • Nacelles: The nacelles are good in shape, but Bussard Collectors are too little. On the wall that separates the collectors, there are a particular "crossed" hull part just like the Sovereign Class. The RCS thrusters are inexistent (but existent on the Rhode Island type). Nav lights are needed on the dorsal-aft part. It also need the Starfleet paints just as the Rhode Island type.

To be honest, the Rhode Island needs a few improvements but not that much as this ship received those which are not on the original Nova Class. If you pay a ship, you must need all the improvements.

To illustrate my suggestion (and nearly a demand), there it is the picture of the Nova Class (sorry about it, it is the damaged Equinox from Voyager, the CGI ship from Drex files):

          069745c36a6cb473d32ad2c748906a99--star-trek-nova.jpg

The Luna, Cheyenne, Saber and Olympic Classes (which is a fake Olympic Class) need improvements as well.

I hope my suggestion would be read by the STO developers staff and by people from here.

You're welcome. However, there's umpteen threads about a T6 Nova, so the improvements are either 'on the board' or 'waiting for consideration'.
