PVP Endeavor: historical moment.

It's funny how easy Cryptic just made the pvp queues insanely alive with a simple event. Well played.

Take that scoffers - see you in Gre'thor.

To bad it just reinforces that despite the so called "balance" changes, PvP is still complete rubbish that needs to be removed from the game.
Ground PvP is so bad its not even funny.

This Endeavor does not even complete after playing three PvP queues. Ground PvP was indeed no fun. I died at least six times in row instantly after respawn. Some people seem to have weapons that blow you away with one shot.

I've seen several people saying the endeavour won't trigger, yet for me I got it as soon as the first PvP match was done.

There is clearly something strange about it. Maybe there is some kind of trigger condition within the match itself?

It must be a bug there is no PvP in STO.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.

I've tried 2 PvP matches, one space and one ground. My team lost the first match, but won the second match. Regardless, I now have TWO completed PvP matches, and the Endeavor has yet to trigger.

Doesn't address the underlying issue of BALANCE. Granted in an MMO where you have freedom to build characters, you will get the hardcore people who min/max the hell out of their stats, but therein lies the problem. Some hardcores don't CARE if someone is as hardcore or not. A kill is a kill. And some people actually go out of their way to find the weakest player and obliterate them, then insult their "lack of skill" for the lulz. Its people like that as well as som inbalance that does not make PvP fun for everyone.

As soon as the Endeavor ends, the PvP queues will die down.

Actually had a couple of good PvP games. Kept playing after completing the endeavour since it wasn't all cheesefests for a change.

The Boolean Heavy Assault Cannon, Tr116 and most Pulsewaves at point blank, in the hands of a Tac captain (which a large majority of players are) will 1 shot you.

Didn't we get some Balance after the Space and Ground passes of Season..12-13?

Proves once again that PvP being dead in this game has nothing to do with "balance" and everything to do with rewards.

I have completed 3 PvP space matches. 2 losses and 1 win and Endeavor will not complete.

right... I tried the ground and space arenas once. Both were us 0 and the 'pro' team 15. Got no credit for endeavor even though I did my best and get nuked in 2 seconds. I will ignore this Endeavor from now on.

I get the feeling that the Pvpers only goal is to prevent others from getting the Endeavor done. And you wonder why most players despise Pvpers.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
  • warpangelwarpangel Member Posts: 9,427 Arc User
It didn't complete first time for me, either. It could possibly mean complete one of the daily PvP wrapper missions (I got the endeavor at the same time as the Arena wrapper). But since it's once-per-account I'm unable to test it any further.

You cant blame the Endeavor on the PVPers. It sounds like a Cryptic Problem as no one is getting a completed Endevor (even those that win).

    That last bit sarcasm ?

    In case its not;
Since LoR there's been about a 15x increase in raw power. Meanwhile, player ships never increased in hull or resistances (other then the small bump from T5 to T6.

So even though they did some balance stuff for S13 (and for the skill tree revamp-if you remember). It was way too little, way too late for PvP.
Don't think they'll ever be able to balance it at this point.

.....That said, I suppose I should give them some credit. PvE side is actually pretty good now in the sense that all damage types and weapon types are more equalized then they've ever been.

Still makes me sad though, thinking that PvP was sacrificed (ever since LoR) so they could sell power creep to the larger PVE player base.... :pensive:

Description says "participate", doesn't specify it has to be ground or space so I assume it can be either. I was on a winning space pvp team - no credit.

Zone chat said ground so ran one of those. We lost and didn't get credit for participating.

Consensus in zone chat seems to be it has to be ground and you have to be on a winning team. So most fleets are taking turns throwing matches to help out their fleet mates. Hmm.

Can we get an authoritative statement?

Cryptic folks, if it needs to be ground/win please be clear on such things in Endeavor descriptions.

    Some, yes. Some

It made PvP somewhat playable and overall it was a step in the right direction, but only a step. Immunities are still insane, bleedthrough seems to have gotten worse, drain builds still rain supreme etc etc. They can't really fix balance in this game without 90% of the player base screaming.

Ok I see Cryptic updated Twitter that they know it's bugged. I imagine like the earlier Endeavor bug it won't be fixed before it expires.

    Two thoughts:
Twitter shouldn't be the only way players learn about known issues.
PvP is still not fun for the average player using PUG PvP queues.

They also still need to kill the insane speed and turn buffs. This is supposed to be Star Trek online, not starfighter online.
PvP needs to be accessible to everyone, not just top 1% elitists, and it actually used to be.

It still is accessible to everyone. The reason most feel that it isn't accessible, is that it requires one to think about build. I know a few PvPers. I've been toying with builds and such myself. I test those builds against the PvPers, because PvE is to easy to conduct an accurate test.

PvE = build glass cannon and survive. No challenge.

PvP = build glass cannon and become fodder.

The difference. You can ignore the gear and traits meant to help you survive in PvE. Not so much in PvP.

Though I will admit, starting down the path to be competitive in level 50+ PvP currently, is it's own expensive endeavor.

Everything can be fixed or remade. Starting with updating space and ground gameplay to current standards.
Developers needs to want it though, and players need to want to play it, which is done by giving good rewards for challenging missions.
Problem Cryptic has made for everyone though is that they have introduced instant gratification and no-challenge accolade colector mentality.

So the miracle worker spec has both drain and dot counters (Every 30 seconds which is Faster than Tykens and E-Siphon can be used). within its first tier (Space and Ground)..Not that DoTs need any more counters in space..Immunites are removable (I love it against low to mid level Zahl users)..

Ground Kits..Well..Ground is weird. Tacs will still 1 shot you (I haven't tried with Miracle worker spec on my Sci build) But You can Survive all the stuff Scis tho out with the new spec at least for the first 30 sec :P .

Yea..I have to do around 350 flight speed in a Sci ship just to catch the (High level PVP players) Pilot escorts zipping through this game..(Ive fought low to mid level people who can do the speed but get wiped out )...Any slower and my sci stuff cant touch them do to them being in and out of my.."Sphere of Influence" before I can blink..

I would reserve that observation for the second or third time the endeavour comes around. If people then don't think it's worth it... I guess right now many people are trying it for the first time (or the first time in a long time) and will then decide whether they like it or not. Though "balance" shouldn't be a problem, if match making worked.

Well, in a way it is accessible to everyone, if everyone accessed it. That and proper matchmaking would mean that the 1% min/maxers have their fun (except those guys whose fun is to curb stomp weaker players over and over and bask in their superiority, but I couldn't care less about their fun), and everybody else can as well on their level. You can't beat a Miranda with your T6-Scimi? Well, you suck, but so do others, here they are, have fun. And if you get better you may rise in the ranks.

    So much for theory.

My point is, back in the day before all this power creep began, most players could just jump right into PvP and get a feel for the game and learn on the fly from their mistakes.
But these days you pretty much need a crapload of foreknowledge and gear and specialization grind to even start PvP'ing at all or get totally smashed to atoms faster than you can say Live Long and Prosper.
Your average player is most likely just going to throw his arms up in the air and say "TRIBBLE this", and so here we are with PvP queues that are pretty much dead all of the time.

Ground PvP is completely broken, resists literally mean diddly squat, your going to get stomped by overpowered insta-kill science combos, insta-kill Boolean guns and the likes. Even running into an engineers minefield is pretty tame by comparison.
