Ground PvP: Other/"pro" team stormed into our spawn area, nuked everyone in 2 seconds and sat there waiting for respawns. Final Score: 0 to 15
Space PvP: Other/"pro" team come in a group, someone(s) puts out a God-awful Tyken's Rift and GW3 in same spot, we all die in 2 seconds. I come back cloaked they they are zipping around in circles to defend each other at full impulse (I assume the all have the MW instant power transfer after full impulse thing going). I uncloak get 3 shots off and Tyken's/GW3 get me again. Boom!
You'd think that if your skills are that much better than the average player and PvP is half dead in STO that you might just take it easy on the noobs so they might come back when there's not an Endeavor? Nope, not the PvPer mindset, obviously.
The only PvP premades left tend to prefer using drain, crowd-control and disables. It's really unfun to play against. Due to all the powercreep sci-ships have become godlike in PvP, being pretty much invincible, dealing most of their damage through shields and having stats/powers that make the drain immunities and resists worthless. When they're in a hurry they'll fly with an escort.
It's why we have the Solo/Duo arena queues, because pre/pugmades vs pugs just isn't fun. Problem is those queues hardly pop because the normal arena queue is busier. Usually because it's got a premade in it.
It's funny how easy Cryptic just made the pvp queues insanely alive with a simple event. Well played.
Take that scoffers - see you in Gre'thor.
I should not even be surprised that the endeavor for PVP is bugged. Tried 4 matches and nothing.
PVP is back on the ignore list for me.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
I tried Pvp for the first time. Did two space arenas and was on the winning team both times but no endeavor completion. Then I tried a space capture and hold and that completed the endeavor.
Resolved an issue that caused the Endeavor “Participate in a PVP Match” to not register all PVP types.
Hopefully, this patch will fix the issue with not getting rewards for Space PvP for everyone. So, try, again... as you have the time, I suppose. I have no idea how much time a match to the score of 15 takes.
@trekonlinegame: The current endeavor on PC, "Participate in a PVP match," is not functioning correctly. We're aware and looking into it.
It will be fixed in today's patch.

Man, some of you PVEers really need to learn how to make builds. It was like knocking down bowling pins in the arena tonight. Remember, you need to be running tactical consoles to boost your weapons and you need traits and heals for survivability. You can’t just throw a rainbow build together and pretend like you are LORD OF THE UNIVERSE when you are playing against other players. Stop hating the pvp players and start playing the game.
Thing is, there is no perceivable "middle level" here. Learning to play a game is usually not a zero to one hundred thing. So players having troubles, major troubles, will not be able to "learn playing the game" without slightly increasing difficulty and slightly increasing knowledge. They would need a step by step. Yes, Tac consoles would help, but I assume most know that - the problem indeed is survivability. And as long as there is no healthy community, by which I don't mean unhelpful vs helpful or toxic vs nice but a lack of a continuous spectrum of player strength, only very few will go the way of lose, lose again, learn, lose some more, still lose, now lose in slightly more time, until they reach a competitive level with other players.
Same thing as in other sports and games really. You don't learn chess by getting crushed by Carlsen and then trying to figure out what went wrong. You get some lessons, play against opponents of similar, ideally slightly stronger, level, and learn.
Also, striving to be the very best isn't on everybody's mind. Many people would be happy with going what they have and try how it works, have fun doing it, or as you put it, play the game. And while many PvP players know that and will be helpful and scale their strength down to help a newbie improve, some apparently don't get the memo. Spawn camping or similar is not helpful to promote your community, putting the fault on players spawn camped or ridiculing them is neither. And people thinking they are lord of the universe indeed make for annoying gaming partners - quite regardless of whether they have the skills to back it up.

Well of course there is no "middle level" here. There is no level at all, the queues are completely empty 99% of the time.
The endeavor pulled in a lot of players who couldn't care less if they were "competitive" as long as they got their reward (me included). And undoubtedly some people who actually like PvP jumped at the chance of seeing queues pop once more. The problem is the normal reward for PvP doesn't pull in anyone. Once the endeavor is over the masses will go away again.

The reward for PvP was removed a long time ago. It was being abused for marks way back when they put the fleet system in. The reward we have now it what they added back in.
I thought this endeavor was nice. Had a bunch of "normal" players in PVP that had ships and ground chars geared for PVE so all 4 of my matches were rather even which made it fun. There was one or two people in each of my runs that were obv PVP junkies, but we figured out pretty quick who they were and played accordingly (avoid them, take out everyone else) I think the problem is that STO PVP is geared for Elite PVP players only. I know they had that mystery scale thing they introduced to rank players, but I think they need to have "standard" and "advanced" PVP ques, and if you are too good you simply CANT que into a standard run? That way casual STO players could theoretically play PVP and not get insta-squished by P2P people. They can hang out in their "advanced" ques and measure.....whatever. But having a PVP option solely for "normal" players that only want casual PVP would be nice.
Most PVPers don’t spawn camp in my experience. Instead, it’s usually the same two premade teams and individuals doing it. They sit in the arena every day and stomp pugs who never saw it coming, driving players who try it for the first time out of PVP. These are the same people who hold the core assault room for the entire length of the match without letting the opposing team win or lose. They’re killing competitive queues too. I almost always pug so I have run into them quite a few times. I’m not sure what their endgame is, they apparently enjoy the PvP queues being dead. Maybe they’re just trying to kill the game.
That said, there are PVE premades doing the same thing by preventing lower level teammates from registering any damage, causing AFK penalties.
I’ve always helped people tweak their builds when they ask in Ker’rat or queues, and I have seen others trying to help too.
The horrific experience of getting murdered when you aren’t set up for PVP, though, is just something you have to accept until you’ve put in the time and energy required to make your build viable. Until they set up a PvP queue where people choose from premade ships that’s just how pvp is going to work in this game.
"The problem is the normal reward for PvP doesn't pull in anyone. Once the endeavor is over the masses will go away again."
Bingo. LTS that hasn't done PvP in years. Since the early Kerrat days. No desire to be a 1%er either. Long as the NPC's melt when I shoot 'em, I'm satisfied.
Took 3 tries to get the Endev done. Got stomped a bunch of times, but quickly learned who can't be touched (tac's in pilot ships & sci-gods) and who can. (Everyone else).
Hope it's another half decade before I have to do it again. Prolly gonna skip the next one.

That's something that has been suggested a few times over the years. We were even discussing it in the Esports post recently. Along with a various other ideas about PvP. So it's not unheard of. It would just require more of the community to actually PvP.

It didn't used to be that way though. That started with Legacy Romulus and the subsequent power creep and got really bad with Delta Rising and onward.

Yeah I realize that the power creep is the problem. But it is unrealistic to think that Cryptic is ever going to roll back years of new ships, builds, traits, etc. people would log in to find that years of purchases were made worthless and you’d have an even bigger exodus from the game.
The last few additions—competitive, lukari, and miracle worker—have all been meant to balance power creep. I don’t know if it will work though. Won’t the meta just become a bunch of ships who can’t die shooting each other for eternity?
It seems to be a step in the right direction. But the real solution for PvP seems to be tiered matches, either based on a WORKING matching system, premade ships, or normal, advanced, elite towering. This would work for Cryptics business model because it would still leave room for players who want to max every little thing (spend money) while reducing the barrier to entry for F2Pers and new players.
Not something that interests me anyway. i will gladly skip the pvp quest.
I have no problem with that-I just want it to be viable again as an option, as in cryptic allowing players to level via PvP if they don't want to grind the PvE...or spend forty five to fifty levels doffing.
i agree with you that pvp should be viable, but as you mentioned yourself in another thread, Cryptic doesn't seem entirely willing to give PvP a proper chance, there have been quite a few problems over the years. For me i would like to try and hope that there will at some point be a chance to get a complete overhaul of the entire system, something better and something that works.
As it is now, it's just too much trouble going through it which creates the lack of interest.

Ah the same old gripe.... PvP. Of every MMO I have ever played...100% of them have had a major PvP set back. The old way was always better to the vets...and the new way is just fine to new arrivals to STO (like myself). I will never know what PvP was like here.... All I can do is make the best of what I have.... Actually the only knowledge I have of the old PvP is through those who whine about the old days.
Like CoX when they revamped PvP in a major way to appeal to new players, there were 2 types that emerged from it... The ones who left the game because of it.... and the ones who stayed to gripe about it..and eventually ended up being "dominant" again with the new way of PvP (like myself).
It's the same old story.... I happen to like the PvP in STO... You either live with it and adapt to it.... Or you don't and pout about it.

That depends on what the developers have planned for it, the general resistance to change from the community to the changes and if there will be continual adjustments and more content being added over a period of time. As Patrickngo mentioned, the Cryptic business model wouldn't allow something like this. STO is more about storytelling in PvE far more than it is in PvP, Cryptic have always leaned in that direction. The amount of resources needed to not only deal with PvP and PvE could be more than wohat Cryptic could manage or what PWI would allow.
PvP has been more or less like this since launch with the occasional change that happened a few years ago. I once called PvP a pre-historic dinosaur, because it's the only feature of this game that hasn't been changed while the rest of the game has moved on. I wish it weren't so though.

at this point,it's too late to worry about how it got started, and it's too late to hope Cryptic has enough of a grip on the mechanics to deal with it. (evidence indicates No, they don't.)
They've broken it so badly, and put so much of their business model on selling that power-creep, that it can't be fixed now.

and they can't do it, won't do it. At first they didn't because of attitude, but we're at the point now where the technical ability to address the problem is simply absent, as is the financial ability to obtain that technical ability. The cost for ANY fix that will WORK is too high with too small a return to be viable.
Well its not that they can't, or won't. They do actually have a dev that works on PvP. So we know they're at least willing to work on it. If only at a bare minimum level.
The main problem most have with PvP, is the power creep. That's just something that a player has to work around.
I'm sure, many have found that PvP can be enjoyable with this endeavor. Though, as many has stated, the worst parts of the pvp community turn them away from it. You an I have discussed this in another thread. This is something both you and I agreed on, as one of the main things to work on.
I'll also grant that pvp isn't the easiest thing to break in to at 50+. It's expensive and time consuming. Which turns a lot of new players away from it as well. Another point we agreed on. Ships are expensive on the exchange. And unless you're willing to pay the cash out, you have to work on C-Store ships via the Dilithium Exchange. The same goes for fleet modules. There's just not a lot we can do about this.
The best advice I can give players right now for PvP, would be to use the Private Challenge for it. This way they can get together with others and enjoy as they see fit. This also allows them to avoid the public queues and the bad apples of the PvP community. So there is a work around for that.
Waited for the patch and tried to Endeavor the insufferable PVP nonsense. Patch is totally not patched on this one for me. Now ignoring this endeavor for time remaining...and not or the first time.
Proves once again that PvP being dead in this game has nothing to do with "balance" and everything to do with rewards.
Not really....sorry. If that was the case then people wouldn't have called the competitive games queues some of the worst ever simply because they involve PvP.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

People have called the competitive queues "some of the worst" for the same reason they have and apparently still continue to say they "involve PvP"...because they don't know what the H-E-double hockey sticks they're talking about.

Think the title of the endeavor should have been "Win a PvP match on ground".
