Day/Night cycle, I don't care about so long as they fix the accolades related to it.

Lighting 2.0 being to bright just tells me you need to adjust your monitor just a little bit. I have the settings maxed out and the day isn't that bright at all. Hell, even the dark hallways that used to require flashlights are no longer dark enough for flashlights.

The artifact hunt isn't broken. Ever play hot/cold as a kid? Stop relying on waypoints to hand hold you. Play hot/cold. I have no problem at all finding the artifacts within 1-2 minutes of starting it.

Even with two separate maps you still wouldn't get sunrise/sunset.

If you want devs to fix broken things, you should file a bug report in the proper bug subforum. That's where they look first for issues. If you want to debate these issues amongst yourselves, that's fine, too, and I can leave this thread open for that. But I implore you to file your bug reports through the proper channels, if you want things fixed.

Brightness is good, during the day. But I really miss day/night time on Risa. :( It was a major mistake, IMHO, to release Lighting 2.0 with such a regression. And knowing Cryptic, they're not gonna fix it when they feel they can get away with it.

"Can't fix during the remaining event time/Will fix for next year" has been the response I've gotten for bugs in past events. Guess what rarely happens? You can bet they'll crank out new ships with .04% drop rates like there's no tomorrow for the gamble boxes though.

Actually, they specifically said they can't fix this, because of how lights are built into maps in the 2.0 system.

I thought it was because of the way lighting was baked into the original map BEFORE Lighting 2.0. It can't be removed, they'd need a whole new map.

Once upon a time, Risa was just like any other planet, turning through space, and enjoying the natural order which is a day/night cycle.

Now, that is no more, and perpetual daylight BRIGHT BURNING DAYLIGHT LIKE THE FIRES OF VULCAN'S FORGE shines down all the time.

This happened a few months back, and I've just realized why.

A few months back, my toon undertook a mission with some dude named Kal Dano, and she buried a quantum phase inhibitor on Risa to keep its location hidden.

    What's happened is clear:
The burial of the Tox Uthat has tidally locked Risa in its orbit, so, just like Remus, Risa no longer spins on its axis: One side perpetually in the light, one side perpetually in darkness.

Please be assured that this officer will be severely reprimanded for the ecological disaster she has wreaked on Risa!

Ferengi Trader Kek, will be providing sun-glasses and sun-screen to all those in need (for a reasonable fee, of course) to assist in this troubling period, and he can be found moving between the main resort, and the beach cabins.

The location and exhumation of the Tox Uthat will bring this ecological travesty to an end! #FindTheToxUthat #BringTheNightBackToRisa

the tox uthat was already found by captain picard, removed and subsequently sent back to the future a few years later after being retrieved by the player during the breen attack on earth to be used to defeat the sphere builders at procyon 5 about 40 years before 2411

    so...it didn't cause risa to be tidally-locked

A year ago, you could walk down the beaches of Risa under a star-filled sky, and see fires in the distant forest. Now, when I walk down the beaches, I see several problems.
First of all, when you are in the water, you might notice dark circles beneath the waves. You might look up to see if something is casting a shadow, but you find nothing. There were always one or two, but since the lighting was increased I have seen unsightly lines, dark circles, and pieces of land merging.
Next, If you look at the sky on Risa, you see a gray evening sky. It is neither night nor day, just a gray sky somewhere in between. Personally, I would prefer just night or just day over this. In addition to the dull skies, since there is only one time, you cannot tell when you are supposed to find Pavyl, or when the unauthorized starts. I still have yet to find the Klingons on the arch as well. I know this was to make things brighter, but the old Risa, the one with a day/night cycle, was better.
Last, when you use a tribble or an emote on your powerboard, the powerboard will sink underwater. You used to be able to dance and sit on your powerboard, but not any more. Not only is it annoying to have to have your board sink, but to bring it out of the water, you have to reactivate it. This is a lot of trouble over a small tribble.
In conclusion, I find that Risa seems cold, and less exciting than in previous years. Fireworks and torches will never glow with the same brightness as they did before. It is harder to determine when events that give you accolades are, and there are unsightly lines and spots in the map. I would like the old Risa back.

*nods* Issues with Risa. I just don't really see how being a teen plays into all of this.

I know that. :) Was just curious about a typical teen perspective, and didn't find it, is all.

Right, it's not a bug report. There is no bug to report, because the devs already explained that the day-night cycle was removed on purpose because the new lighting engine didn't support it.

I don't expect them to do lighting 3.0 anytime soon, either.

You can say the map is barely used and compared to the rest of the game that's correct. BUT....it does have near constant usage from 90% of the players for 40 days straight over summer, that's not and insignificant period of time.

I'd say showcasing the fancy lighting and a day/night cycle on the one place you are trying to attract to would be a good idea. Risa always felt special along with Bajor because they had those nice day/night transitions and it really added to the atmosphere. Without it something is definitely missing.

Their new lighting should not have been allowed to just break bits of the game and then they roll over and give up, where's the logic in that. If you can't get something to work properly then go and find out how to do it.

Just Cryptic logic all over, same with the exploration clusters, diplomacy missions, and all the other stuff they just can't be bothered to try and get working.

I have to get myself to Bajor to see it in the daylight. I don't think I've ever been there for Missions when it wasn't night. :)

I have posted extensively, numerous times on how/when to get Mok'Bara, that Pavyl is always there and immediately goes to his puzzle locations after he gives it to you, etc.

Have you posted a thread with the instructions? if you did you could get it stickied so you dont have to post them again just point to the stickied thread :)

anyways i lovd the old risa would spend alot of time there over the course of the event, hell even spend down time there just chillen, but now its just another map that looks like its been sun bleached.

I agree, good ol' Risa is lacking this year. There is a lot of little stuff broken and the big stuff just feels wrong. It's still fun and all, but it was better.

New captains showing up all the time, burying alternate Tox Uthats to later be dug up by Picard. I'm surprised they don't find multiple Tox Uthats while trying to bury the one they have.
