Just reinstalled the game client and trying to log in but it simply reads: Patching ::with no movement and can't even cancel. Server Status shows green. Have to hit the X (exit) in the top right to close the client. Launcher Version: CL-2017-01-09-15-44 .... (1g fiber connection with SSD)

Don't lose hope.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
> Hit ctrl-x to pull up the transfers window and check to see if it's actually stalled. It may just be pulling files one at a time due to the patch server being so overwhelmed.
There is this. Ctrl-alt-del ing and process killing was the only thing that helped. This *only* happened with the recent update, when they did the server upgrade.
I noticed something I first thought bizarre- This game is downloading stuff you'll never need, that's just re-used resources from another one of cryptic's games, Champions online. It downloaded what seems to be skills STO would never, ever use. Things like magical resurrection abilities, hellishly themed darkness attacks, the champions online icons themselves representing them (not even STO modded versions), things of that nature.
They didn't even bother to rename the assets. It's DLing them anyway, and when it hangs is where I seem to see these resources coming up on the DL lists. Why is this data here and why do I need it?
The other thing though, is that the game is now getting stuck on patching. I figured it was a network issue, but it is an apparently very old, unfixed bug with shaderCacheNvidia.hogg. I'm looking for fixes, but haven't been able to find any as to why this file is always the one that locks up.
They also recently changed Caitian/Ferasan Pounce animation to CO's.

> I had exactly the same problem - I've fixed it now by going into the Launcher Options and turning off 'On demand patching'. I then killed the Launcher process with task manager and re-started it. It started patching successfully straight away, hope this helps you.
I have actually tried this and it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas on what else I can do to make it work?
Edit: I should also add that the cancel button doesn't work, so I have to click the x or use ctrl-alt-delete to close it.
Already test other Patch Server in Launcher Options ?
Maybe word it like; "Try running the launcher as administrator. You can do this by right clicking the launcher. If that doesn't work then try using a different patch server. You can change that by going to the launcher's options."
^ this would have made you look like a nice helpful person instead of;
> Already run Launcher with Right Mouse Click and Administrator ?
> Already test other Patch Server in Launcher Options ?
Is this normal for this game? Or anomaly caused by a resent patch? thx.
File-Exlporer, browse to STO Folder
Make Rightklick Properties von Folder
Attribute write permission checkbox off
Write Permission to all Folders / Subfolders and Files !
it times a little but sometimes Helps
greetz
So going back through all the steps/options:
I closed everything and rebooted PC.
Opened ARC and was able to access NWN as normal.
Opened STO and patching stalled.
Turned off "OnDemand" patching in options of STO launcher.
Closed and reoppened STO launcher.
Manually selected Patch.
Appears to be patching properly.
19GB patch... Zoinks! Will take 4+ hours on my ISP.
Download for several hours last afternoon and made it 3GB down and stopped. Was able to start download again before bed. By morning had another 3GB downloaded. So far have 6GB of the 19GB patch downloaded. At this rate should take me about 3 days to get it all downloaded with all the waits and restarts.
Launcher says lost connection to the server, so today will change PC power options, turn off Sleep mode, etc, to rule out the possibility my PC is causing the lost connection.
At some point in the afternoon my PC connection remained stable and I completed the download. Nothing I did specifically, just restart the patch when I got the Lost Server Connection message. Given this I cannot attribute the issue to connection issues at my end. So I still don't know why I couldn't patch.
I then tried on a second PC yesterday afternoon and had no problems.
I tried a third PC this morning and nothing. But later today (afternoon) I got a stable connection to server and completed another download.
Next issue is why the game gives me an error about not being able to run on WinXP when I'm on Win7 on this PC. It will run on my other PC with Win10. But I guess that is another thread.
4 days into this and I still haven't played any of the game.
I started patching several days ago, it got to about ~60%, then stopped. I eventually closed the patcher and re-started, now it just says Patching and does nothing. I've left it overnight and nothing happens. I've tried all suggestions listed on this thread, and no luck.
Anyone have anything else?

Tried the above advise with disabling "real time protection" in win 10 - with no luck still hangs in Patching.
Guess the support on this subject is out of order LOL
For those still having the issue after disabling Windows Defender's real time protection: make sure there isn't another protectionware running on your computer that has some sort of real time too (or disable that feature).
The key for me was killing it in Task Manager to effect the changes
