Stuck on patching

Just reinstalled the game client and trying to log in but it simply reads: Patching ::with no movement and can't even cancel. Server Status shows green. Have to hit the X (exit) in the top right to close the client. Launcher Version: CL-2017-01-09-15-44 .... (1g fiber connection with SSD)

I'm having a similar problem... The first time I tried to patch the game, I got to 3.1% before it stopped loading. I exited the patcher, and reopened it, and now it won't even begin loading..... What do I do?
  • jamiejmolesjamiejmoles Member Posts: 1 Arc User
I had exactly the same problem - I've fixed it now by going into the Launcher Options and turning off 'On demand patching'. I then killed the Launcher process with task manager and re-started it. It started patching successfully straight away, hope this helps you.

I have the same problem, I already sent a Ticket to PW, and did what they told me to do, but nothing works.

Same issue after today's patch, patch now currently stuck at 3%, and I'm lucky to have gotten that far on this attempt.
  • spectre21184spectre21184 Member Posts: 45 Arc User
I was having the same issue today with the patcher, what i had to do was go into my task manager and make sure on the background processes that star trek was not running then i went to the options on the ST launcher and set it to us proxy server, uncheck force verify and on-demand patching, make sure gameplay proxy was set to us

Hit ctrl-x to pull up the transfers window and check to see if it's actually stalled. It may just be pulling files one at a time due to the patch server being so overwhelmed.
  • toivatoiva Member Posts: 3,276 Arc User
Mine was stuck as well but after an hour or so it actually completed to patch.
    Don't lose hope.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

There is this. Ctrl-alt-del ing and process killing was the only thing that helped. This *only* happened with the recent update, when they did the server upgrade.

I noticed something I first thought bizarre- This game is downloading stuff you'll never need, that's just re-used resources from another one of cryptic's games, Champions online. It downloaded what seems to be skills STO would never, ever use. Things like magical resurrection abilities, hellishly themed darkness attacks, the champions online icons themselves representing them (not even STO modded versions), things of that nature.

They didn't even bother to rename the assets. It's DLing them anyway, and when it hangs is where I seem to see these resources coming up on the DL lists. Why is this data here and why do I need it?
  • nanomorphnanomorph Member Posts: 203 Arc User
Because they actually did reuse some assets from Champions Online in STO. A good example of one I know about is the Engineer's cover shield, aka the power armor energy shield from CO.
  • dontwantaforumnadontwantaforumna Member Posts: 2 Arc User
    K.

The other thing though, is that the game is now getting stuck on patching. I figured it was a network issue, but it is an apparently very old, unfixed bug with shaderCacheNvidia.hogg. I'm looking for fixes, but haven't been able to find any as to why this file is always the one that locks up.
  • orangeitisorangeitis Member Posts: 5,222 Arc User
Now I'm having the same issue. On both STO AND CO, as of today's patch. CO managed to patch about 23% then stop. STO isn't even starting to patch.

They also recently changed Caitian/Ferasan Pounce animation to CO's.

I can confirm that this is still an issue. My launcher had been sitting still with no activity for at least thirty minutes, and then froze. I exited and attempted to retry, but no dice.

Hi I'm installing the game for first time and it's stuck on patching. It's not even giving me a % number. It's been like this for an hour and a half.

I have actually tried this and it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas on what else I can do to make it work?
Edit: I should also add that the cancel button doesn't work, so I have to click the x or use ctrl-alt-delete to close it.

Already run Launcher with Right Mouse Click and Administrator ?
Already test other Patch Server in Launcher Options ?
  • landandsea#3509 landandsea Member Posts: 2 New User
The administrator one seemed to have worked, however, I'm not going thank you due to the way your worded your post.

Maybe word it like; "Try running the launcher as administrator. You can do this by right clicking the launcher. If that doesn't work then try using a different patch server. You can change that by going to the launcher's options."

    ^ this would have made you look like a nice helpful person instead of;

I see there is still some issue with patching. I just downloaded the game yesterday. Haven't played it yet because I cannot get past the "patching". I tried everything mentioned above, plus some other things. I have other ARC games downloaded/played and never had a problem. Tried on different PCs and different internet locations, including fast industry class wired. Patch stops anywhere from 3% to 4%. Yesterday sat on 3% patching for 4 hours before I gave up.

Is this normal for this game? Or anomaly caused by a resent patch? thx.

Last what you can do is

    File-Exlporer, browse to STO Folder
    Make Rightklick Properties von Folder
    Attribute write permission checkbox off
Write Permission to all Folders / Subfolders and Files !
it times a little but sometimes Helps

M-kay... Ended up with Arc locking up everything. Nothing downloading from any game.
So going back through all the steps/options:

I closed everything and rebooted PC.
Opened ARC and was able to access NWN as normal.
    Opened STO and patching stalled.
Turned off "OnDemand" patching in options of STO launcher.
    Closed and reoppened STO launcher.
    Manually selected Patch.
    Appears to be patching properly.
19GB patch... Zoinks! Will take 4+ hours on my ISP.
  • mithral7mithral7 Member Posts: 4 Arc User
    Download update:

Download for several hours last afternoon and made it 3GB down and stopped. Was able to start download again before bed. By morning had another 3GB downloaded. So far have 6GB of the 19GB patch downloaded. At this rate should take me about 3 days to get it all downloaded with all the waits and restarts.

Launcher says lost connection to the server, so today will change PC power options, turn off Sleep mode, etc, to rule out the possibility my PC is causing the lost connection.
  • mithral7mithral7 Member Posts: 4 Arc User
    Download update Yesterday afternoon:

At some point in the afternoon my PC connection remained stable and I completed the download. Nothing I did specifically, just restart the patch when I got the Lost Server Connection message. Given this I cannot attribute the issue to connection issues at my end. So I still don't know why I couldn't patch.

I then tried on a second PC yesterday afternoon and had no problems.

I tried a third PC this morning and nothing. But later today (afternoon) I got a stable connection to server and completed another download.

Next issue is why the game gives me an error about not being able to run on WinXP when I'm on Win7 on this PC. It will run on my other PC with Win10. But I guess that is another thread.

4 days into this and I still haven't played any of the game.

    Still a problem.

I started patching several days ago, it got to about ~60%, then stopped. I eventually closed the patcher and re-started, now it just says Patching and does nothing. I've left it overnight and nothing happens. I've tried all suggestions listed on this thread, and no luck.

    Anyone have anything else?

I resolved this issue by disable "real time protection" in windows defender page (windows 10)
  • arlentozarlentoz Member Posts: 1 Arc User
I also have this patching problem with the launcher..
Tried the above advise with disabling "real time protection" in win 10 - with no luck still hangs in Patching.

Guess the support on this subject is out of order LOL

well i get to join in on the fun. New HD so im reinstalling stuff, except STO wont patch. I've tried everything this thread has suggested, any other fixes available?
  • baldrick8baldrick8 Member Posts: 100 Arc User
    From the other thread:
I seem to have (sort of) solved the problem.

It seems to be an issue with the realtime protection of Windows Defender and/or any other protection software running on your computer indeed.

I disabled my normal protectionware and made sure that the Windows Defender realtime protection is disabled too.

I'm now patching at a normal, steady rate. No stops, no hiccups whatsoever.

While I'm happy that the game is patching, I'm absolutely appalled that the launcher/updater can't cooperate with Windows Defender! I'm still deciding whether I think it's hilariously bad or simply outrageous tbh.

For those still having the issue after disabling Windows Defender's real time protection: make sure there isn't another protectionware running on your computer that has some sort of real time too (or disable that feature).

I turned off On Demand Patching, Disabled Virus Protection, shut down the launcher, killed the launcher in Task manager, and then restarted the launcher
The key for me was killing it in Task Manager to effect the changes

meh, i think it was malwarebytes anti malware stopping me. I restarted my computer to finish removing it and the patching worked just fine.
