Old news, I'm afraid. These kinds of things have been going on forever in F2P MMO's. It's almost impossible to get rid of them permanently since they can just create (or otherwise aquire) a new account when their current one gets banned.

    It's unfortunate, but enevitable.

My advice is to just delete the messages as soon as you get one. :/

This is the first time I seen third party vendors target players in game. I been playing Star Trek online since 2012 so it's not old news to me.

Yeah, its unfortunate for the poor guy who ends up falling for these scams. There really no reason to buy master keys and lockbox ships from third party vendors.

That what I did. I report the email as spam and put the person on my list. Hopefully Cryptic does something about it.

I've been around since... uhh 2013 sometime lol. I've been ignoring chat spam and deleting junk mail for nearly all of my time on STO. If you haven't seen any spam mails until now, I'd like to congratulate you on one hell of a run of good luck.

You can report the mail as spam/junk, but I have my doubts that it'll do any good. I just delete them and move on, 2 seconds and done. :)

Uh? I was talking about third-party websites that sell items to other players. I never say I didn't seen spam before in game.

Yeah, I understood. That's what I was referring to. I apologize for not being more specific.

I have no idea what the OP is talking about. In game emails? or ones to your login email?? Cause that's a much different thing.

There is an option in the privacy session that allows you to block trade, mail and challenges.

Yeah, I noticed that I started getting them regularly after I made the 'mistake' of talking in zone chat during one of the summer events. Seems they scan public channels to build 'mailing lists'.

If you've been here since 2012 and never saw the gold spammers you should immediately go buy as many lottery tickets as possible because you have the world's most amazing luck. They are all over the place every day, and I've been here since f2p launch. I've run into them in every mmo I have ever played.
Unfortunately, he wasted all that luck on not receiving gold farm spammers, instead of winning in the lottery. :/

So what do you to offer to the discussion? If you have nothing to offer than snarky replies then please don't contribute to the post.

TBH, I don't think threads like these contribute to the game and / or the forums... For the simple reason, that you waste time posting on the forums, rather than reporting, you are wasting everyone's time.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I've seen it in chat all the time since I started playing about three or so years ago. I also get emails from them and any time I see them I report them as spam. You can do so in the chat (right click>report spam). They immediately go to your ignore list and whether Cryptic does anything about them is debatable.

I don't wanna get rid of spam, it makes tasty sandwiches and is good in grits with cheese and other stuff :p

The spammers used to fill the chat channels, can't recall seeing any recently though that may be a time of day thing.

Whisper spam also seem to have died a death.

The ingame mails werent there in the beginning half as much but I'm getting 2-3 a week now.

Almost seems linked to if you talk in ESD zone chat or not as my f2p account barely gets any.

I'm fairly new to sto. What's defined as a "third party vendor"?

I went online learning about sto when I first started playing and came across websites like sto club and mmo tank which sold commodities for sto and/or other games. Would these be the "third party vendors" you warn about?

I've never been sent solicitations by anyone while playing though, thankfully.

A third party vendor would be ANY website or person who sells you something for use in STO without payment going to Cryptic.

You misread what I wrote in my previous post "I say in game" I knew there were gold spammers in STO but they were easy to ignore until now. The guy I was talking about was using the server to send out emails to every single player in the game. I eventually end up putting the game on my ignore list and report him to Cryptic.

Anyway I don't know why you guys are arguing with me. You people are acting like spammers are a okay thing to have in STO. Just because they appear in every mmo doesn't mean we should have to tolerate them here. Scamming people for their money is a big no-no in my book.

Do you have mental deficiency syndrome or other mental impairments? If not, maybe you should consider playing one on T.V.

Stuff like this goes on in ANY MMO - B2P, F2P or Subscription. But like everyone has said, best to 'Report Spam' and move on.

You must not play very many MMOs. Third party vendors have been around and advertising to players in games since MMOs first began.

Nope, I don't have the time to play to very many MMOs. I have a social life to attend to like most people do. I can't be brother to play MMO 24/7.

You don't need to play MMOs 24/7 in order to know that gold spammers are a part of any game.

You also don't need to play very many MMOs to know that gold spammers are a part of MMO gaming.

The ones that pissed me off the most were the the spammers who sent a friend request, then a /tell with the advertisement and then they'd cancel the friend request.

Simple, people either misunderstand what I wrote or deliberating twist my words around. So I have to state the obvious over and over again in a way they can understand. Maybe that my fault for not being more clearer in my post. If it my fault then I apologize for it. However I expect that a full grown adult should be able to read and comprehend a person post before commenting on them.

It is a foregone conclusion that many people playing this and other games, mind you, are not full-grown adults...

    ...at least not mentally.

it is still very old news, they spam just few days after STO launched, i get loads of "tells" no matter where i am. i got fed up, and left STO, and wrote a post back in 2012 to STO team, and it took them 6 months to change spam chats, so i came back it was quieter.
the mail spam been around, they also hit NWO pretty heavy, they collect our names in thier game mail list, i put them on ignore.

my advice, dont even go visit thier sites just to request to remove your names from thier list, they have keylogger code ready to steal and strip all you own for EC.
ignore list is growing and the STO team seem cant block them or pin point thier IP ports, the sellers use throw away accounts and make uncountable alts and accounts.

    added for edit:
3 party sites sell what they dont offically own, Cryptic owns all the pixels they created, it is illegal for anyone outside of the company to sell, and when if caught, you get banned.
also if visiting the questable sites and you get risk of keylogger code downloaded without your permissions or knowledges, keylogger compromised your computer and get access all to your accounts, banks, meds, and credit cards, even they will find other games you played that not cryptic.
3 party sellers broke the rules with CoC and EULA, and they ignore it.
